  1. Wow, what a bizarre trade. I was 99.9% sure that Hardy would be traded for pitching, not a CF. It frees up a lot of money to sign a pitcher now, but the free agent market for pitchers isn't exactly stellar this year. So I wonder what the batting order will look like. Gomez leading off followed by Weeks?
  2. It'll be interesting to see where some of our prospects end up in 2011. The outfield could potentially be pretty loaded with Schafer, Cain, Gindl and obviously Braun out there. Seeing how the current pitchers pan out will be intriguing too. By then, Rogers, Rivas, Anundsen, Braddock, Butler, etc. will really be knocking at the door for a spot in the rotation. I'm already excited for 2011 too.
  3. Lamest excuse I've ever heard. At some point, you have to see if these guys can actually hit major league pitching. For Macha, it must be when a player is 30 years old and washed up. That being said, I was happy with the playing time Escobar got. Wish I could say the same about Gamel though.
  4. I haven't followed the AFL in the past, but are these games usually this high scoring?
  5. Watching the Rockies-Phillies game tonight is making me crave for another Brewers postseason appearance. What an atmosphere in Denver. Looks like a game 5 tomorrow night.
  6. I thought they said last offseason that a new HD scoreboard would be installed this offseason and be in use starting in 2010.
  7. St. Louis looked terrible against Milwaukee a week ago and it has carried into the playoffs. How beautiful a sweep would be. Six more outs to go.
  8. So in other words Lucroy will be given a chance to make the big league team in spring training and Salome will start in AAA again?
  9. Man that Wisconsin pitching rotation is going to be loaded. I wonder if one of Arnett or Hechathorn will start the year in BC? Otherwise, they won't have room for everybody in the starting rotation. Bucci, Lasker, Odorizzi, Howell, Arnett, Heckathorn, and maybe even Burgos could all be in the mix in Appleton. As others have mentioned, Huntsville will be fun to watch too with Rogers, Rivas, and Anundsen in the rotation. It'll be interesting to see how Peralta and Scarpetta do in A+ ball. I can't remember a year in which I've been so excited to follow the pitching in the minor leagues.
  10. Can't say I'm happy with the decision to bring him back, but I suspect Macha will be on thin ice the entire season. Any kind of a letdown and he'll be out. Anybody who wanted to see Mat Gamel be a regular starter next season will probably have to wait another year though.
  11. I wonder if its a case of Melvin and Attanasio being at odds over whether to bring him back or not. I also find it strange that an announcement hasn't been made yet. I guess we'll find out soon enough.
  12. Does anybody get the broadband NBA league pass? I'm trying to figure out how much it costs for the entire season, but their website says to come back later for more information. Just curious if anybody knows how much they charge for the whole season.
  13. At this rate, Gamel won't graduate from the power 50 until sometime in 2011. Absolutely unbelievable that your top prospect is losing playing time to Counsell and riding the bench at this point in the season though. Anyway, best of luck to Looper. It would be nice to close the season out with a series win and prevent the Cardinals from getting home field in the playoffs.
  14. Per TH, Villanueva will start Saturday and Macha will get official word today on whether he will be coming back next year. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/63289967.html
  15. monty, what exactly did McClung say about Macha? Did he come right out and say, "I don't like Ken Macha." Not that I don't believe you, but just wondering if your friend told you any specific quotes. It's interesting that we keep getting these rumblings about players not being happy with Macha. Obviously Melvin has heard these rumblings, but I wonder if he'll just brush them aside or take them seriously when deciding if Macha comes back or not.
  16. I'm sure Counsell, Catalanotto, Hardy, and Cameron will all get at-bats before Gamel does today.
  17. Gamel gets rewarded for his three run homer the other day by continuing to ride the bench. Maybe it's just me, but considering McGehee is playing on a bad knee and needs surgery in the offseason, wouldn't right now be a pretty good time to give Gamel a few starts? Although at this point, a few starts probably doesn't make a big difference.
  18. In almost three weeks since being recalled, Gamel has had 8 at-bats. One of our top prospects has 8 at-bats in a month when you're supposed to be playing your top prospects, especially when you're not in playoff contention. I'm more convinced than ever that it's some sort of an off the field issue that we don't know about that's limiting his playing time. How else can you explain Craig Counsell getting starts over him in late September?
  19. Counsell starts over Gamel again at 3b: Brewers 2B Felipe Lopez 3B Craig Counsell LF Ryan Braun 1B Prince Fielder CF Jody Gerut RF Corey Hart SS J.J. Hardy C Jason Kendall RHP Braden Looper Phillies SS Jimmy Rollins CF Shane Victorino 2B Chase Utley 1B Ryan Howard RF Jayson Werth LF Raul Ibanez 3B Pedro Feliz C Paul Bako RHP Kyle Kendrick
  20. The chance of that happening are about as good as Gamel getting two starts in a row. That would be really cool though.
  21. So if Looper is resigned, we will have virtually the same starting rotation next year. Gallardo, Parra and Suppan for sure. Now it sounds like Looper will be given his mutual option. Bush could be traded I guess, but that seems unlikely. Melvin will use the injuries to Bush and Suppan as excuses to the miserable pitching this year and 2010's starting rotation will be the same, imo. Yikes.
  22. Narveson looked shocked when he was taken out of the game. What a performance.
  23. I'm hoping they give Lucroy an opportunity to make the big league team in spring training. On the other hand, if Macha is back next year and they resign Kendall, Lucroy would basically rot on the bench all year, so maybe that wouldn't be the best idea. I think Salome could use more time in AAA due to him being injured for a nice chunk of this season. It'll be interesting to see what happens.
  24. Wow, did he really call him a flake? Do you remember the exact quote and why he called him that? It's no wonder Gamel gets no playing time if that's how Macha really feels toward him.
