  1. Friday night Dominican (Stone) played Rice Lake (Ellenson) at Concordia University. Rice Lake won the game fairly easily as Rice Lake's role players are much better than Dominican's. Bo and Buzz were both in attendance. Stone dominated inside. He is much more polished than last year. Can't hit much outside of layup range. Very good footwork down low. Ellenson was overmatched down low. However, his game is more suited for a 2 or 3. Very good ball handler and decent range on his shot. Ellenson would fit perfectly at Wisconsin in the swing offense.
  2. I think the infield fly call was worse, but both are unacceptable with six umpires.
  3. Too bad expanded replay is not in effect for tonight's game. If the Rays wind up losing, there will be plenty of controversy.
  4. Sure is fun watching the Little League World Series. On top of the great action, they are also using instant replay. The replays are not taking much time at all. It is unbelievable that they can have a seamless replay system for kids, but not for a multi-billion dollar empire like MLB.
  5. This seems like a silly argument against replay. Say the Brewers have bases loaded and hit one down the line that is called foul. Upon review, the call is reversed to a fair ball. The batter is awarded 2B and all runners advance two bases. For argument's sake, lets say that Gomez was on first and would have scored easily if the call was correct originally. Which would you rather have: 1) No replay available, so foul ball stands, or 2) Replay overturns call and Brewers get two runs and have runners on second and third? Obviously, scenario two, while not perfect, results in a situation that is much closer to what should have happened. Awarding bases won't be perfect, but they can easily tell within one base of what would have happened.
  6. Was Roache really intentionally walked with one out and nobody on????
  7. Yes, 9-1-2 vs 3-4-5 makes a bit of a difference. If 3-4-5 were up in the 8th, this would actually be the right decision for the wrong reason.
  8. I believe RR said this will be the case until K-Rod gets his 300th save. If he is managing for players to hit some meaningless stat goal, then he should be relieved of his duties immediately.
  9. Henderson is now setting up for BB-Rod???? How does Henderson not come back as the closer?
  10. I could not see Diamond Stone ever playing in Bo Ryan's system. He will never develop enough of an outside shot to succeed at UW. Wilson will fit in well at Marquette. Not sure why Marquette would want Burton, though. The guy has all the physical tools, but he can't shoot or dribble in traffic. My guess is he lasts less than a semester there.
  11. Doesn't matter on Ishikawa starting vs a lefty since the Braves will be going to there bullpen by the second inning!!!
  12. What really stinks is that nobody should even know about the possible suspension/testing problems. Without that distraction, Braun would win the MVP rather easily, I believe.
  13. Huh? How is a batter swinging at different pitches? It is not a hit and run. The contact play only means that the runner on 3rd takes off once he knows it is a groundball.
  14. I have two tickets to next Saturday's Badger season opener. Section J, row 26. Face value ($100) for the pair.
  15. I put an Axford poster on my door and now it won't close.
  16. There is no such thing as a career year in a contract year. Every year you play to your career norms.
  17. There is a rule in ASA (not sure about other associations) that says the umpire can call time, if a player needs immediate medical attention. They then award any bases that they think would have been reached. In your case, I could see using this rule, and awarding either first and third, or just first with two runs in.
  18. I hope not, since it only tied the game. Pretty hard for the defense to miss that. Surprised the on-deck hitter, or none of his teammates saw it before he left the field of play.
  19. You weren't kidding. The PbP doesn't even do it justice. An appeal by Missoula claiming Mondesi Jr. missed home plate at the end of his HR trot "earns" the little tattle-tale D'Backs a win. But for real Raul, make sure you touch home plate! Not sure if you were being sarcastic, but appealing a missed base, or leaving early is far from a ticky tack, or tattle-tale, way to win. It is a part of the game that smart teams pay attention to.
  20. Former West Bend West (maybe East?) star Paul Hoenecke with a nice game against Maryvale...4-5 with a HR and 4 RBI.
  21. What is with pitchers with CV as initials that take forever, and can't throw strikes?
