  1. I wonder if people actually make movies with the intent of them becoming campy cult classics? I gotta believe that is the intent here. I'm also going to go ahead and assume its going to be a great success.
  2. If you're asking why we signed him, I guess they've ran out of patience with Nelson. If you're asking why I thought he'd play on the Brewers - in short, he's one of Melvin's guys from Texas. I also correctly predicted the Kapler signing, but an offseason too soon.
  3. Ah, the day has come. I always knew this guy would end up on the Brewers at some point.
  4. I already have about twelve Hayseed Dixie songs on my hard drive.
  5. I haven't expressed it before, so I just wanted to add that I fully support an adopt-a-prospect feature separate from the forums. The Daily Link Reports are amazing for coverage of everything that happens in a day, but player pages for each prospect updated frequently would be awesome. The three components on each page I would like to see are periodically updated scouting reports on the top of the page (with the most recent visible and the others archived), followed up career stats as current as possible, and then news reports by the players sponsor in a RotoWire/Rotoworld type format, all displayed and listed most recent to least recent. Also, It would be great to have our own organizational statistics page like the one on Baseball Reference, but I suppose if that is already available we don't really need to copy it. EDIT: And I also vote for an honorary Russell Branyan player page on the site.
  6. Its not productive if your arguments aren't continuous. Kram is right, you stated two different things.
  7. I still can't believe they put him in...Janish had tommy john surgery a few years ago. It would be a terrible thing to see a SS have their season end by pumping in 92 mph fastballs in a blowout game. Two words: Dusty Baker.
  8. I want these: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/ps_oddspec.php With 95% confidence intervals for the win totals. Available? Possible to calculate with data present?
  9. Wow, this is awesome!
  10. Exactly. Its not about trying to walk. Its about swinging at the correct pitches.
  11. I guess I would say it doesn't compare well because baseball has breaks in play every 10 seconds. Soccer can go minutes without a break in play.
  12. FOR SALE BY OWNER. Complete set of Encyclopedia Britannica, 45 volumes. Excellent condition. $200 or best offer. No longer needed, Got married last month. Wife knows everything. ------------- http://media.ebaumsworld.com/picture/jmc1/2.jpg EDIT: Changed image to URL because it contains a naughty word.
  13. Alright, pimp your recent playlists here! I'm mainly starting this to call attention to Mayer Hawthorne. Great soul music, a real throwback. I really don't know much about him, sans the four tracks of his (one's a cover) I found on youtube.
  14. I believe it says somewhere in the fine print of the CBA that players called from the minors receeive road stipnds for 15(?) days, even for home games. I don't currently have access to that document, so I can't link it or verify it. I'm reading through the CBA, and if I understand correctly, players sent down or called up receive their $85+cost of living adjustment road "allowance" for his first seven days after the transfer, regardless if his new club is on the road or not. All players get the $85 and change every day the club is on the road, including travel days. I'm not sure how they home clubhouse food is payed for.
  15. Wow, Trenni is amazing. That interview is full of great quotes. I laughed out loud a few times.
  16. I also includes a link to updated ZiPS projections taking into account April stats: http://www.baseballthinkfactory.org/files/oracle/discussion/2009_zips_in_season_projections_hitters_through_april_28/ (I see battlekow has already been there.)
  17. Great article on small samples: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/small-sample-usefulness Lesson: Small samples are still samples of useful data.
  18. Was Van Halen's "I'll Wait" ever featured in like a basketball game for Sega Genesis? Sure sounds like it.
  19. Ah, thought of one that the above advice doesn't universally apply. In just about every situation of which I'd like my 16 year old self to know about, the above is the message. Except the following: In your freshman year of college, when Sammie, the girl that's way too hot for you and also doesn't stand a chance because you have the same first name and that's totally awkward, asks you to her room to watch a movie with a cute puppy face, she is NOT just being nice. GO TO HER DAMN ROOM! It will take you a year and a half before you reminisce and realize your mistake (and what an idiot you'll feel like) and she will no longer be in your life. Wow was that dumb.
  20. Even if you did, it would probably be worth it.
  21. So if I downloaded that onto my itunes, can anyone tell me how to edit it so only the five second clip can be saved as it's own file? I would really like my text message alert to say "You can tell Mr Selig that the next time that kid pitches he's probably going to get one in the ribs"Here is the four second quote: http://www.mediafire.com/?oldlynwmyxm
  22. My name is Sam, and I'm wondering if it is okay to begin celebrating Burrito Appreciation Month a few days early. As you know, its still April until Friday. I'm not sure I can go nine meals without a burrito!
  23. Had the Brewers gotten about 1extra hit w/RISP every 3 games, they would have had a .249 BA w/RISP. That is by no means insignificant ... That's 5.4 wins. I don't believe "clutch" is a repeatable skill, but hitting wRISP is significant.
  24. Awesome chart.
