  1. No one has remotely suggested than runs are worthless, or that they shouldn't be used. I will. Again, I've looked, and there really aren't that many players who score a lot of runs that don't provide value. Backwards. Good players get playing time, get on base, and do so infront of other good hitters or between other good hitters. But there are players who score runs beyond just getting on base and waiting for someone to drive them in. Think back to Hart scoring from second on a sacrifice hit. Sure, his run was team-dependent, but how many players will score a run there? Playing along, in the 3 or 4 type of similar plays to the one you describe a player may find himself in, the top "run scorers" will score all three times while the bad ones will score just once. Potentially two runs. A two run per 150 games stat can go at the bottom of the list. There's a value in speed, but runs isn't the way to define it.
  2. For reference, top OPS+ seasons in Brewer history: EDIT: Hmm, coding problems... the data is here. Hisle's 1978 should definitely be up there.
  3. Give me the Yankee fan's roster - I'll import these teams in the OOTP simulator and see who's better!
  4. Solomon Torres would be my #2 closer.
  5. Words mean whatever the audience interprets them to mean. There's no right or wrong meaning for a word. You can both be right.
  6. Out of curiosity, how big is the model?
  7. To be frank, I never really liked that song. I don't think the tempo and flow of the song fits with the joyous moment. Maybe its just the mood I'm in right now, but blast some Fu-Schnickens and go crazy would be my choice.
  8. Question is: What song will you be blasting once the Crew makes the final out in the World Series? (Not necessarily 2008) Or maybe a two parter... What is this year's theme song in general?
  9. Ham and cheese omlete, a couple pancakes or waffles, maple syrup, bacon, sausage, hashbrowns, toast and orange juice - I could eat every meal of the day. Or how about steak, eggs, and potatoes, pancakes, and biscuits... http://www.logoserver.com/baseball/MontgomeryBiscuits04c.GIF
  10. I use my current digital camera (that I got from DHonks) about twice a year. Not really looking to upgrade. Guitar Hero is too addicting. And my roommate next semester has it already. Thankfully, no kids yet. Not a movie buff. Never much a fan of My Little Pony either. So far, that leaves music...
  11. Maybe the answer is a wider range of ballpark sizes. Parks vary, and you do only play there half the year, but if you had one team with a park 400' down the lines and 450' in center, and another team with 300' / 375', you'll have a much more diverse game and legitimately applied managerial strategies.
  12. I think the MLB should alter the rules to generate more pickles. Love the pickle.
  13. Can't...resist... ... ...must...add...lettuce...AHHH!
  14. I've got a $265 gift card to Circuit City left over from a Christmas present. I like gadgets, but I feel like I don't need anything right now. Any suggestions? And you'll have to convince me I need it.
  15. It's a timing mechanism. Its not working.
  16. Sorry, but what's cocky about that little hop? A lot of people have their little quirks. When I'm catching a routine fly I get under it, use two hands, but for some reason always keep my glove closed until a split second before the ball gets there - then chomp. Is that cocky too? (I usually play RF and bat 8th or 9th, nothing to be cocky about there.)
  17. Sample size. Too early. Won't maintain pace. Preseason predictions are still more accurate. Now, as for when will Yost stick him in the 2nd spot to play the elusive "hot hand," probably sooner than later.
  18. While at class/work, I think of ways to contribute to this thread.
  19. I think he's permanently OF now. Would they play him at 2B?
  20. I'll translate: 111000111110010101 011011101 Does that make sense? Bwa, ha, ha, ha! EDIT: Of course that's in jest, I'm obviously a seamhead too. The move doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me either.
  21. To me there are 3 key players in the everyday lineup they need to lock up - Prince, Rickie and Braun. Prince is the franchise...and needs to be locked up now. Rickie next, because the upside is so huge. He really makes the lineup go. Then Braun...but there is little gained in doing it now. For the most part, the rest of the guys are somewhat replaceable. JJ and Corey would be great to extend too, but at some point they do need to be cost conscious. If we can retain Prince through age 30-32 without severely handicapping our payroll, I am all for it, so I agree with that. However, the #2 positional player on my lock up list would actually be whoever takes over the CF job next season, most likely Hart. Price has already shown he is special no matter where he is playing, so relative positional value can be disregarded a bit. But other than that, I don't think we know quite enough about Braun yet, we have a replacement in place for Hardy, and Weeks still has defensive struggles and has yet to show he's anything more than above average with the bat. The most sure thing at a premium position would seem to be Hart in CF.
  22. I still miss sbryl's Matt Wise avy... At least I've made some type of lasting impact on this site. I just flat miss Matt Wise. (For some reason I think long lasting middle relievers are the coolest. My favorite piece of Brewers gear is my Bob McClure jersey.) As for BF.net, I still find it fascinating that its a bunch of Brewer fans meeting to talk about baseball at a place that doesn't even exist. Think about it, its nuts.
  23. " I am currently going to school full time and my wife just opened her own small business. The business has drained and over drawn our bank accounts." So the couple has five kids and not much money, so one enrolls in college and the other starts a small business!? Um, I think I see where the problem started.
  24. 12:50 picture Definitely 3rd base side.
