  1. an optioned player must spend at least 10 days optioned, or until his team is done playing for the year--whichever comes first. if guerra was optioned to the timber rattlers, their season could potentially be extended beyond 3 september. the mud cats have been eliminated. their season definitely ends 3 september.
  2. it looks like guerra has spent 13 days optioned. they could option him to a club that's been eliminated (mud cats) and recall him 6 days later on tuesday 4 september. he would preserve his option.
  3. a triple short of the cycle last night. santana is up to .294 / .412 / .508.
  4. do we think that the guy who starts a potential wild card game for the brewers is in the organization right now?
  5. jacob nottingham is being eased back into hitting and should be ready to play in about a week. colorado springs can take advantage of the remainder of their regular season through 3 september, and if the sky sox qualify for the postseason, should be able to manage with jett bandy and christian bethancourt as their postseason catchers--allowing nottingham to be recalled.
  6. davies is eligible for recall 2 september, which by then he will have met the requisite stay of at least 10 days optioned, unless replacing an injured player. he will not burn his second option.
  7. the mudcats have been eliminated, so any player optioned to that club could be recalled 4 september (the day after their season ends), even though that's less than 10 days from now.
  8. adrian houser threw 4.2 on wednesday. jacob barnes threw 1.0 on thursday. i'd option burnes and recall houser to be the long guy, and use barnes sparingly with colorado springs.
  9. wow. burnes threw 40 pitches. jordan lyles threw 35. that's really showing a strong commitment to corbin burnes. the club wouldn't burn his option if he was recalled within 19 days of being optioned (easily achieved with september roster expansion). heck, even taylor williams could be optioned. i know there are just two more games until an off day, but for a club that has often used the colorado springs shuttle, this is surprising. i hope it doesn't come back to bite them.
  10. i would assume final game of the season--including a makeup game. that's why it's important for one of the minor league clubs to not qualify for the postseason. the timber rattlers likely will not, with elimination number of 7. their remaining opponents have elimination numbers of 4, 11 and 11 respectively, so it's possible that their final opponent, kane county, be involved in meaningful baseball. the mudcats have an elimination number of 1, and as soon as they lose a game, or the buies creek astros win one, the mudcats' final series will not have playoff implications.
  11. Obviously so that a playoff team could sign him to run for them. berry was released well ahead of his reported opt-out date. classy move by the brewers.
  12. corey knebel optioned yesterday; he must spend at least 10 days optioned. joakim soria activated by the brewers. still an eight-man bullpen.
  13. options are burned at 20 days. which basically means if you're optioned twice and not recalled during either time to replace an injured player, you've spent at least 10 days down each time: 20 days. the sky sox have 11 games over the next 10 days, and the majority are not in colorado. knebel will get his work in.
  14. important to note: a player optioned must stay in the minor leagues for at least 10 days(unless recalled to replace an injured player or player put on the paternity / bereavement list), or until the conclusion of that club's minor league season--whichever comes first. the minor league season ends 3 september, so as of yesterday's optioning of zach davies and corey knebel, the requisite 10 days would occur first. however, if the brewers option more players in the coming days, they need to factor that the biloxi shuckers are postseason-bound, which extends their season. the sky sox are in the hunt for the postseason. the timber rattlers are likely not post-season bound. thus, if more players are going to be optioned before the end of august, you'll likely see them optioned to the timber rattlers, as their season will most likely end 3 september.
  15. alec asher did accept the outright assignment. he will be a minor league free agent at the end of this season.
  16. it should be noted that the 40-man roster is currently full. either a player with a major league contract will be traded for harvey, or the brewers will have to make a corresponding move.
  17. an optioned player is required to physically report to the club. by sending davies to the timber rattlers, he's able to make a quick drive up interstate 41 and report during the team's homestand. i wouldn't be surprised if he's promoted to a higher level almost immediately. provided davies spends less than 20 days optioned, he will not burn his final option.
  18. it is evidence-based that this was declared by david stearns.
  19. minor league rehab assignments for pitchers cannot exceed 30 days. however, with approval of the mlb commissioner, if a pitcher incurs a new (different) injury or illness or suffers a recurrence of the previous injury or illness while on a rehab assignment, he must be recalled from his rehab assignment and remain inactive for at least seven days before starting another minor league rehab assignment. assuming the brewers petitioned the commissioner, davies' current rehab assignment started 27 july, so the 30-day window is closing fast. davies will have to be recalled or optioned before 1 september.
  20. i'm really hoping they option knebel. starting tomorrow, the sky sox have eight road games in seven days.
  21. santana had walkoff hits in both games of a doubleheader against iowa yesterday. game two was a two run double.
  22. knebel can be optioned. if he spends less than 20 days optioned in 2018 (which is easy to manage with september roster expansion), he will not burn his final option.
  23. for the time being, back to an eight man bullpen. matt albers activated, keon broxton optioned. a pitcher will most certainly be sent down when joakim soria is activated.
  24. matt albers has been activated from the disabled list.
  25. yep. albers activated. broxton optioned to class a timber rattlers.
