  1. the player to be named has been named. rhp eric hanhold.
  2. that reason would be he pitched 6.0 innings on wednesday. had jungmann pitched yesterday, it would've been on three days' rest.
  3. Whoever replaces Jimmy would be playoff eligible right? if you're talking about a minor leaguer within the brewers organization on 31 august, according to the source cited in this thread, he would not be postseason eligible . . . because nelson would not have spent at least 60 days on the disabled list by the time the regular season ends.
  4. the 2017 season is over for the brewers' minor league affiliates. eligible to be recalled: lewis brinson (on 7-day disabled list since 16 august) adrian houser (last pitched 3.0 innings 4 september) taylor jungmann (last pitched 6.0 innings 6 september; out of options in 2018) jorge lopez (last pitched 3.0 innings on 3 september) yadiel rivera (out of options in 2018) tyler webb (last pitched 1.0 inning on 10 september) jimmy nelson has yet to be placed on the 60-day disabled list. this would allow the brewers to select the contract of any minor leaguer in their system and add him to the 40-man roster.
  5. ugh. jimmy nelson certainly a candidate to be placed on the 60-day disabled list. it would open up a roster spot.
  6. if used as a starting pitcher in the postseason, rick sweet could ensure that wilkerson pitched on the road. the first round, they would be playing games three - five in memphis. for the second round, they'd also be playing games three - five on the road. i had that wrong . . . games one and two are on the road at memphis. wilkerson is starting game two for colorado springs.
  7. guerra spoiled the shutout sunday by surrendering a two run homer in the victory against the nationals.
  8. but based on what mlb.com states, if sogard went out for the season, the brewers' only infield replacement option would be yadiel rivera (the only remaining infielder on the 40-man who was on the 40-man as of 31 august).
  9. stated on mlb.com: the brewers have not utilized the 60-day disabled list at all this season, so how can they have a player who's already accrued at least a month on the 60-day disabled list (and 60 days by 1 october)? this is why i was puzzled by the lack of roster moves on 31 august. a guy like aaron brooks clearly had no future role in the organization--he was just class aaa depth. i don't know why he wasn't dfa'd the night of 31 august so quintin berry could be added then.
  10. with the addition of quintin berry, the roster is at 34 players.
  11. aaron brooks designated for assignment. the brewers have seven days to release, trade or outright him to the minors. considering that he's out of options come 2018, and that the minor league season has ended, it's very unlikely that any team would want to claim him. i'm betting that the brewers outright him right away. his replacement on the 40-man and active roster? speedster quintin berry. berry appears to have one minor league option remaining. he was not on the 40-man roster as of 31 august, so he shouldn't be eligible to appear in any postseason games, but can help the brewers through 1 october. the 40-man roster is full.
  12. if one reads "umpire" as a noun, this thread title beats "radio announcers what you want" hands down.
  13. i'm going to assume the brewers don't want to risk outrighting any other players until after colorado springs' playoff run has ended--it's the only way to ensure they stay active on the aaa roster and not get claimed by another team. but, after the postseason ends, it would make sense to designate yadiel rivera (out of options in 2018) for assignment and add ivan de jesus jr. de jesus jr. has hit well all season, would add a more experienced bat to a very young team and could fill in at many positions.
  14. seeing a pattern that few would have expected, but it makes sense . . . jonathan villar gets the start in center field, eric thames at first and neil walker at second. thames comes out, walker shifts to first, villar shifts to second, and keon broxton (the better defender) comes in at center. it's a good way to give thames a rest (the mlb daily grind is a big departure from south korea, and he's struggling) and it keeps the hotter hitters in the game (villar and walker) and puts a speedy outfield defender in for the final innings. this also keeps jesus aguilar available to pinch hit late in the game when his bat can make a real difference.
  15. jett bandy, andrew susac and brent suter avoid the 60-day disabled list. lewis brinson could still be recalled and then placed on the 60-day disabled list, but then the brewers could not use him at all again in 2017. another player could still go down with a season-ending injury (i.e. keon broxton last september crashing into the ivy at wrigley field), but at this point, it looks like the 2017 brewers will avoid the 60-day disabled list.
  16. brandon woodruff set a franchise record last night by becoming the first starting pitcher to allow two or fewer earned runs in each of his first four games.
  17. I feel like there were when Salome was a September callup. yes, thank you. in 2009, the brewers had been carrying jason kendall and mike rivera as their primary catchers all season. on 1 september, vinny rottino was recalled, and angel salome had his contract selected. interestingly, that gave the brewers five catchers on the 40-man. that was short-lived, as lou palmisano was designated for assignment five days later.
  18. four catchers on the active roster right now. i'm trying to determine if that has ever happened with the brewers.
  19. for the second straight game, villar is starting in center. craig counsell is certainly looking for ways to ride his hot bat right now.
  20. jett bandy activated. the brewers roster is at 33 players. i'm trying to remember the last time (if ever) the brewers carried four catchers on their active roster.
  21. official: activation of andrew susac and brent suter. recall of junior guerra, brett phillips, wei-chung wang, taylor williams and brandon woodruff. the brewers roster is at 32 players. that's a lot of raiding of the minor leagues, considering they're still playing (and have aaa postseason games looming). one would expect to see jett bandy activated soon, and taylor jungmann and jorge lopez as likely recalls when minor league play finally ends. the activation of lewis brinson depends on how he returns from his injury.
  22. it's all moot now. the thread topic was how you'd shape the 40-man roster and 60-day disabled list for postseason eligibility by last night's deadline, not who you'd recall in september. because that deadline has passed, all of the moves you're proposing will not affect the makeup of the 25-man roster for each postseason series, and in fact, some would impede the postseason depth for the brewers. there's a thread for september call-ups (including purchasing the contracts of minor league players not on the 40-man).
  23. wow. no changes made to the 40-man roster at last night's deadline, and no players were placed or moved to the 60-day disabled list.
  24. espino was traded to texas, optioned and pitched against colorado springs this week.
  25. I too suspect we'll be around .500. the pressure's on for september, stalton!
