  1. Was that the dodgers game when green hit four home runs? Trying to remember yes, four of green's six hits were homers. 23 may 2002.
  2. and . . . that team record was just tied.
  3. time will tell what this thread's title should become. it should not include blazek, though. this should focus on the team's record. the brewers' record for most home runs allowed in a game is 8 . . . last done in 2002 at miller park vs. the dodgers and in 1997 at county stadium vs. the indians.
  4. the brewers record had been four prior to today. mike caldwell gave up four homers in the 4th inning at boston on 31 may 1980. dave bush gave up four homers in the 4th inning at miller park on 11 august 2010.
  5. carlos torres, the oldest brewer, was born two days after the 1982 world series ended.
  6. 31 july is an off day. michael blazek moves back the bullpen after today's start. 1 august: jimmy nelson 2 august: taylor jungmann (a reliever out of options is designated for assignment) 3 august: brent suter 4 august: brandon woodruff (will have spent 10 days optioned, junior guerra is optioned, moved to the bullpen or placed on the disabled list) 5 august: zach davies
  7. with 13 pitchers and only 4 bench bats, you're asking for a lot of pitchers to bat for themselves later in the game.
  8. should note that the brewers are down to one position player on the 40-man that they can recall in the coming days (andrew susac). yadiel rivera, keon broxton and brett phillips all have to be optioned for at least 10 days (unless replacing an injured player). given that michael blazek is making an emergency start tomorrow, it's understandable why the club would want to go back to an eight man bullpen.
  9. brett phillips optioned to make room for swarzak.
  10. retroactive to 23 july. with the new 10-day disabled list, can only backdate three days.
  11. thanks for clarifying. those terms seem to be fairer to the player.
  12. i'm still pulling for kyle wren as a backup outfielder for 2018 and beyond. bringing him up after 12 august ensures that he'll enter 2018 spring training with three minor league options. i'd love to have him as a pinch running option in close games. michael reed and ryan cordell are no longer in his way, and there's still an open spot on the 40-man.
  13. in a swap for players on 40-man rosters, the brewers trade ryan cordell for anthony swarzak. swarzak is out of minor league options and will be eligible for free agency after this season. a corresponding move will need to be made on the 25-man roster to accommodate swarzak (likely before tomorrow's game, as that is when swarzak is expected to join the team in washington). the roster remains at 39.
  14. blazek can be optioned (he's been optioned twice in 2017), but if he stays for at least the minimum 10 days, he will burn his final option.
  15. getting players and having to hear an insult from the other team? i'd take that deal any day!
  16. also keep in mind that if it were a position player possibly being suspended and appealing, the club would've likely moved back to a 12-man pitching staff to give the potential replacement player some more experience before considering keeping him to replace the suspended player (or look elsewhere).
  17. swarzak is eligible for free agency after this season. cordell isn't. thus, a 40-man spot would open up after the season ends, which would give the brewers more flexibility for rule 5 draft protection.
  18. cordell is on the 40-man roster. in order for him to be eligible for the rule 5 draft, he'd have to be outrighted to the minor leagues. but in order to be outrighted, he'd have to clear waivers. if another team claimed him, they'd just need an open 40-man spot and could option him this year and in 2018 (plus another season). if they got him via rule 5, they'd need an open 40-man spot and would not be able to option him at all in 2018.
  19. woodruff spent only 10 of 30 eligible days on his minor league rehab assignment. he has been activated from the 10-day disabled list and optioned to colorado springs. if woodruff spends more than 20 days optioned to the minor leagues, he will burn his 2017 option.
  20. if i am calculating correctly, garza has spend more than 130 days on the disabled list during his tenure with the brewers. thus, if the brewers wanted to opt out of his contract after this season, they could with a $1 million buyout. garza started 71 games during the first three years of his contract. he has 15 starts in 2017, bringing him to 86 starts. with 61 only games remaining, there's no way that he gets 24 more starts in 2017. with 82.1 innings under his belt in 2017, 115 innings is certainly attainable if he avoids the disabled list, but there's no way we gets to 110 total starts as a brewer.
  21. the brewers don't have any more games against toronto.
  22. rob scahill designated for assignment to make room for the return on wily peralta from the 10-day disabled list. this is the third time in 2017 that rob scahill has been designated for assignment by the brewers. he has the right to refuse the minor league assignment if the brewers try to outright him for the third time this year to the minor leagues. the roster stands at 39.
  23. if broxton spends less than 20 days optioned this year, he will not burn his final option. let's hope he rakes in his first 15 games back and is recalled.
