  1. on 13 february 2013, the yankees put alex rodriguez on the 60-day disabled list. that was 10 days before the yankees' first spring training game.
  2. i would think that texas could also sign a player to a guaranteed minor league one-year deal but have the salary be for millions of dollars--with the full intention to have him on the 25-man roster all season once spring training ends.
  3. on 7 november, the rangers activated fielder from the 60-day disabled list and returned him to their 40-man roster. he will undoubtedly hold that roster spot throughout the offseason.
  4. once september rolled around, nieuwenhuis' playing time dropped (and this was prior to his injury). i truly believe that the brewers were auditioning him to clubs with postseason hopes, and this was more stearns than counsell.
  5. i thought of typing, "wood anyone like to take a stab at it?" but thought better of it. yes, the answer is indeed victor "the vampire" santos.
  6. on 7 october 2005, the brewers outrighted a player to the minors. on 13 october, he declared free agency. on 18 november, he was signed to a minor league deal by the royals. on 8 december, the pirates took him in the rule 5 draft. can you name this player?
  7. the deadline is sooner than that . . . any rule 5 draft-eligible player that a club wishes to protect must be on the 40-man by 18 november.
  8. six open spots at the moment . . .
  9. noted from tonight's event . . . the brewers management discussed the pending adds. four to seven players in the mix, per david stearns.
  10. blaine boyer and chris capuano declare free agency, removing them from the roster. the roster is at 36, with yhonathan barrios still on the 60-man disabled list.
  11. any team that claimed blazek could option him in 2017.
  12. even though the brewers had until after the world series to activate players from the 60-day disabled list and return them to the 40-man, the brewers opted to act sooner with rymer liriano. but rather than adding him back to a full 40-man, they tried to outright him to the minor leagues. instead, he was claimed by the white sox. the 40-man remains full with three players still on the 60-day disabled list. ----- Continued from: viewtopic.php?p=1008697#p1008697 Original Lead: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=30350
  13. stephen kohlscheen is back with the brewers on a minor league deal and an invite to big league spring training.
  14. this goes against what most others have been predicting, but is brett phillips truly a lock to be added? his 2016 campaign with biloxi was underwhelming, and he's certainly not turning any heads in the arizona fall league right now. while it's likely that he'd be snagged in the rule 5 draft, i see it less likely that he'd stick all season with the drafting club . . . especially when there are wild card berths usually within reach for many teams come 31 july. i know that there are many players that should be outrighted to the minor leagues (even those coming off the 60-day disabled list), so excluding phillips isn't necessarily because of roster space, but perhaps to delay his options clock by another season so he's not in sync with lewis brinson's and ryan cordell's options clocks?
  15. logan schafer has refused his outright assignment to the twins' aaa club and has declared free agency.
  16. if this thread is indeed about the brewers wall of honor, an edit to the topic title would be appreciated.
  17. i love the cardinals are denied any postseason revenue.
  18. with that prediction, one of four catchers will have to be removed from the 40-man.
  19. suter gets one more start on friday in place of an injured taylor jungmann (hip).
  20. to give proper respect to the lives of the two friends who also lost their lives in this tragic accident, it'd be appropriate for the topic title to be edited. none of the victims were wearing life preservers. we'll never know if they would've spared any lives, but they likely would have.
  21. any reports on jake elmore's injury last night? if kirk nieuwenhuis can't be cleared to play yet, the brewers are extremely thin in outfield depth right now. keon broxton could be put on the 60-day disabled list to open up a roster spot for a minor leaguer, or andy wilkins could be recalled.
  22. thornburg had held right-handed batters hitless over 38 at-bats before eugenio suarez opened the ninth inning last night with a double. it was the third-longest such streak in club history.
  23. perez is starting in center tonight. who saw that coming in spring training?
  24. well, it took longer than a week to fill the 40th roster spot. josmil pinto had his contract selected today. the 40-man roster is full. pinto will enter 2017 spring training with no minor league options remaining, and he becomes the eighth 2016 spring training non-roster invitee to make the club.
  25. add josmil pinto to the list of september call ups. this is the first time in memory that the brewers have carried four catchers.
