  1. if you don't feel good about this, consider that not too long ago, elian herrera may have been the fourth or fifth outfielder.
  2. will middlebrooks had his contract purchased after the brewers transferred chris capuano to the 60-day disabled list. he is out of minor league options and can declare free agency if the brewers wish to outright him to the minor leagues. the 40-man roster remains full. six players from 2016 big league camp on minor league contracts have cracked the club's 25-man roster thus far this season. will have to do some digging to see if that's a record.
  3. jake elmore takes alex presley's spot on the 40-man and 25-man roster. elmore is out of minor league options and has been outrighted to the minor leagues before. if the brewers wish to send him back to aaa, he has the right to refuse the assignment. the 40-man roster remains full.
  4. since 1 june, the brewers have had an eight-man bullpen. it's quite puzzling that they've gone this long short a bench player--especially during a stretch with so many off-days. i'm hard pressed to remember a longer stint (excluding september) with an eight-man bullpen. might this be a club record?
  5. one year ago today. touching tribute here.
  6. knebel likely won't be down for even that long, according to craig counsell. as mentioned above, if knebel truly spends only ten days or so in the minors, is recalled and stays with the team or the major league disabled list for the rest of the season, he will not have burned his 2016 option. unless replacing an injured player, knebel must remain optioned for at least ten days.
  7. the brewers seem content to stick with an eight-man bullpen. blazek is activated, and barnes gets to stay for the time being. corey knebel was optioned. if knebel stays optioned for a total of twenty days this season, he will have burned his final option.
  8. that would leave them in good hands . . .
  9. i wonder how much longer the club will continue with a 13-man pitching staff. the brewers don't return to miller park until 24 june, when an extra position player could come in handy to pinch hit or pinch run in the bottom of the 9th with the game on the line.
  10. If the Brewers don't put him on the 25 man roster, and offer him back, can't the Twins stash him in AAA if they have the 40 man roster spot? if the brewers don't keep jones on their 25-man roster once he's eligible to come off the disabled list, their first step will be removing him from the 40-man roster. thus, if he's offered back to the twins, he'll be a minor league player on a minor league contract, and the twins can assign him to any minor league club they choose.
  11. the twins claimed neil ramirez and will be adding him to their 25-man roster today.
  12. neil ramirez's tenure on the brewers' roster was brief. by being designated for assignment to make room for the healthy corey knebel, it has opened up a spot on the 40-man roster (for the time being). presumably, that roster spot will be used when matt garza is activated from the 60-day disabled list and is returned to the 40-man roster.
  13. it's been about a week that the brewers have been carrying an eight-man bullpen. one has to wonder how much longer that will last.
  14. if chris capuano's return is delayed or if they designate him for assignment, i predict peralta is moved to the bullpen. but if capuano returns healthy and matt garza returns to the rotation, i think peralta will be optioned to the minors.
  15. and early june it is. jones starts a rehab assignment at class a brevard county today.
  16. just reported on the brewers radio network. if the recall rumors are true, barnes would be making his major league debut.
  17. i was referring to ramirez, not walsh.
  18. colin walsh designated for assignment to make room for waiver claim neil ramirez. ramirez was optioned in 2012, 2013 and 2014, so he is out of minor league options. he spent very little time optioned to the minors in 2014 (one stint from 23 march - 24 april), but that was enough to burn his third and final option. if the brewers wish to send ramirez to the minor leagues and no team claims him, he cannot refuse the outright assignment. the 40-man roster remains full.
  19. the article is wrong in assuming, unless they already know that the brewers intend to stash him at aaa and that kirkman is wiling to accept the assignment. kirkman has until friday to accept the minor league assignment. apparently, the brewers are hoping he does.
  20. agreed. there's a good thread there already: viewtopic.php?f=64&t=33656
  21. it depends on one's interpretation of it, but many would consider a "scrap heap" player to be a player out of minor league options (i.e. alex presley, hernan perez, ramon flores, kirk nieuwenhuis). such players are often given priority over more talented players with minor league options--which sometimes handicaps a team. if walsh is kept all season, he can be optioned back and forth in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
