  1. I keep expecting the Brewers to come back down to earth a bit but man it seems like they have a favorable pitching matchup virtually every night It is crazy to think that they haven't lost back to back games since they ended their 7 game losing streak a month ago
  2. I just looked at Covey's stats at USD this year. Ouch. Maybe we dodged another bullet there? My knowledge is very limited when it comes to the draft but Jungmann's stats really jump off the page. If he is a 91-95 MPH pitcher what is not to like? He isn't a one year wonder like Arnett either. Bradley seemed OK last year; I'll trust the scouts that say the talent is there on him. Since they are both college guys would it be reasonable to expect them to start in Wisconsin if they sign soon?
  3. O god I had forgotten about Mike Burns.
  4. Yeah no offense to Wily but if he is your #1 prospect you have an awful farm system. It probably won't take much for at least our top 2 picks this year to immediately crack the top 5. Thornburg is really the only guy that I am excited about right now; it seems every guy has one huge glaring flaw.
  5. Yuni B might have had his best stretch as a Brewer in the last 3 days; not that that is saying much though. He has 5 hits in his last 12 AB's. I know extremely small sample size. 8 walks the entire year though; that is just painfully horrendous. Counsell has 10 walks in 1/4th the plate appearances. Wilson can't possibly be any worse than Casey right now so I think the lineup out there is actually pretty darn solid. I fully expect to lose today though; just not a good pitching match up at all.
  6. So long as they keep winning; McGehee probably isn't going anywhere. But if they go on a losing streak and Casey is still playing like this it shouldn't be a huge suprise if a move is made whether it be Green or someone else
  7. Now 6-6 in the last 12 road games; maybe the finally have this game figured out. Except for Caseyof course. His black hole streak has got to be going on 4-5 weeks by now
  8. I kinda hope Almonte doesn't accept so we don't have to worry that Boggs, Katin, Gamel getting passed over when the Brewers need another call up.
  9. So who the heck qaulifies as a good manager? More often than not a good manager is judged soley by wins and wins are probably 95% attributable to player performance and 5% to managerial decision making
  10. I don't think the aggressive baserunning has really hurt the Brewers all that much. I like that they have taken extra bases more often. I don't think you can fault RR for several of his players being morons on the bases. RR teaches taking an extra base if you can; not running with your eyes closed. Without knowing the exact percentage I have to believe we have a pretty low Caught Stealing rate. RR is definitely past the point of Gomez batting 2nd (maybe on rare occasions when neither Hart or Morgan is playing he still might hit 2nd) When he was batting Gomez 2nd Morgan was hurt and Hart was still coming back. Now that both are healthy and producing Gomez has batted later in the order. I am not sure what the complaint there is anymore. You have a point on the aging veterans thing; but its not like he has much of a choice. Yeah I am sure he has input about who broke camp and what the roster moves should be; buts its not like AAA is stocked with young talent that would thrive in a reserve role anyways. Sure you could bring up Gamel or Katin but what would be the point of bringing them up to rot on the bench and maybe get 5 AB's a week? It should be up to Melving to make a trade to get someone competent on the bench.
  11. How soon people forget how truly awful Yost & Macha were. RR has some learning to do; but he has a long ways to go before he reaches Yost/Macha territory. At this point I would say my biggest complaint is that he is a little to stubborn/hesitant to change. He likely believes that the best way for players to succeed is to have a very distinct role (Examples include Axford only in the 9th, Loe only in the 8th, not wanting to move Lucroy from the 8 spot because he was hitting well there). I think he has a little bit of the Yost Loyalty Complex in him as well. By all accounts the players love him and he does have the team playing well right now. He has been hamstrung by an awful bench with no power at all and inconsistencies at the back end of the bullpen. No one in the bullpen has just flat out dominated the whole year, no one in the bullpen is really dominant against left handed hitters, and when he has had to choose from Almonte, Boggs, Kotsay, Counsell, Nieves, and Rivera for late inning pinch hits he is screwed no matter what he does.
  12. Still heartbroken over the Ray Allen trade. How different a path could the Bucks be on right now if that trade never happened? I can only dream.
  13. The problem was that Loe just breezed through the first two hitters and just randomly plunked Phillips. RR couldn't have gotten anyone up in time to face Votta anyways. And honestly I wouldn't have been anymore comfortable with Axford out there. Low had been cruising for the last couple weeks; RR couldn't have known he was just going to throw an awful pitch. Gotta give credit to Votto and Bruce though; they just don't miss mistake pitches.
  14. Jeez, Counsell had no intention of swinging there at all I had a bad feeling once the lead was cut to 1. Today is the perfect example of the need for a loogy.
  15. My only complaint is that Yuni B should be hitting 10th.
  16. Everybody keeps linking the Brewers to Reyes this offseason. I for one just don't buy it in the least. An in season trade is probably all but impossible at this time due to the current state of our farm system. I just have a hard time believing Melvin would commit at least $15 Million a year to a SS when Grienke and Marcum are both set to leave after 2012 and will likely at least see an extension offer. That being said someone like Reyes would look awfully good in the Brewers lineup at leadoff; allowing Weeks to move down into a run producing spot. It would help ease the loss of Fielder.
  17. Maybe I can handle cold McGehee for a while longer; but he is routinely up in important situations and has for the most part failed miserably. I vote for moving Plush up to 2nd when he starts and batting Hart 5th. When Gomez starts you probably have to go Hart 2nd and McGehee 5th unless you want to put Lucroy 2nd. At the very least he needs a day or two off. Tommorrow seems like a good a day as any to throw Counsell over at 3rd
  18. Grienke is going to be lucky to get through 5 tonight. Jeez those guys just don't swing and miss
  19. If they are ever going to win another road game this would be it. A dominant Grienke start would be awesome tonight and if we can't hit this AAAA guy then you know the whole road thing is getting to the team. A nice 3-4 run lead after 5 innings sure would be nice
  20. So say for some reason McGehee either gets hurt or continues another 1-2 months of horrible play; who would get the call to play 3rd? McGehee has been a largely ignored black hole for a while now since it has been easier to pick on some other guys. At some point or another McGehee will have to be held accountable regardless of if we have an inhouse option. If McGehee continues this pace I have to believe upgrading at 3B will be 2nd on the priority list at the trading deadline behind getting an actual MLB SS.
  21. Nothin like the Brewers to solve the Reds problems
  22. STL getting pounded 7-2 right now by SF; this is a good chance to inch a little closer. Considering we have Grienke and Marcum going Tuesday and Wednesday I would feel really confident in a series win if they take this one tonight. Brewers really need to kick CIN while they are down On the flipside I wouldn't want to be CIN and lose tonight and then have to face Grienke and Marcum. That being said; I will have a bad feeling about this team on the road until they prove otherwise.
  23. I will be OK with 1-2 this series, happy with 2-1, and estatic with another sweep. Even though the Giants offense looks pathetic without Posey and Kung Fu Panda, it would be a huge stretch to think we could sweep through Lincecum, Sanchez, and Cain. There might not be 20 runs scored between the two teams for the entire series.
  24. Ax definitely needed a break. He had pitched I think in 5 of the last 7 days
  25. There obviously is some logic behind that double switch from the batting lineup perspective. Although I would have prefered he double switched Kotsay out rather than McGehee. Hell Yuni / Counsell probably is about even defensively with Counsell / McGehee. Neither are any good though EDIT: Oops didn't realize Kotsay was leading off
