  1. What an utterly crappy rookie class. If Gamel stays up all year he has as good of a shot as anyone
  2. Memo to Bill & Brian: That last hit by Gamel was not just some cheap hit that should have been caught. That would have taken a very good play. Because they were playing him to pull that hole was open. Plus the wind looked like it killed it
  3. No matter how good of a player Nelson becomes I am never going to view him as one that got away. He was just never going to get a chance with the Brewers. Its not like we gave up on him after 100 major league AB's, we never even gave him a chance. He has always had a ton of potential but there was a reason he was in the minors for so long. I hope he continues to do well as long as he stays in the AL. What is with all these hitters that have crazy good years in Texas? Arod, Kinsler, Young, Hamilton, Tex. That ballpark seems to do wonder for the career of a power hitter.
  4. Right now the only guys I would vote for are Braun & Fielder (He is at the top of the league in RBI's) and Hoffman if we were allowed to vote for pitchers. Cameron maybe is worthy as well but that is very borderline.
  5. If I was Peavy I don't know that I would have accepted the trade either. The money will be there no matter what but IMO the Sox are going no where fast. Their offense is getting pretty old with Dye, Konerko, Thome, and AJ. The Chi Sox probably have a 2 year window left at best. If I am Peavy, I would ask myself if I would want to be on the Sox when they suck, because he is already on a sucky team but at least he has called it home for forever. Now if a team like the Brewers were to acquire him and he sees that we have a never ending spicket of talent than maybe he would sign off on the trade http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  6. Which probably wouldn't be all that different than the actual water at the water park. I always freak out when I go to water parks because I can't imagine how many people relieve themselves in those things.
  7. I don't care, loyal Brewer fans don't wear the other team's apparel no matter what the circumstances. I don't care if you collect balls for a hobby, dooesn't it mean it a little more by getting them fair and square rather than tricking opposing players and coaches? I am still not sure who I believe on this subject. Probably a little bit of both. And Yes asking for a bat from Hanley Ramirez was completely out of line.
  8. The folks over at NSBB really don't think much of Braun as an OF. I know errors aren't the end all be all;, but he has yet to make one in his career at LF and for the most part has been a very serviceable outfielder. I mean is he really worse than Soriano? Sori throws out a ton of runners but he routinely looks awful trying to field balls. Overall a pretty good day on the field. Gamel showes some good offensive and defensive skills but still struggled with a basic play at third. If it weren't for the error I would be super pumped about Gamel, now I am only moderately pumped.
  9. It seems as if Weeks will be replaced in house for the time being but I am skeptical that Counsell/McGehee can produce for 4+ months. So what are the options? Durham Grudz DeRosa Belliard The Hurricane Lawrie (JK) I would love to see DeRo in a Brewer uniform but I don't know how likely that is. He isn't a leadoff hitter but he would go a long way towards replacing Rickie's offense not to mention he can practically play anywhere
  10. Rickie's bat speed almost seemed inhuman at times and I guess his wrists just can't seem to handle it. Ricke has always been one of my favorite Brewers and sadly this latest injury will probably cause many fans to label him a bust. Even in his poor years he was still an adequate 2nd basemen and this year he was probably Top 5. He made such huge strides defensively and all the coaches talk about how hard he works. It really makes you feel terrible for the kid. I hope he still can have a productive MLB career but this latest injury maybe makes it less likely that that career will be with the Crew. As far as who is going to play 2nd, I just can't see COunsell holding up his production the entire year. He is at his best starting 3 games a week and I don't want McGehee or the Hurricane starting the other 4. Not sure what 2nd basemen are available via trade by Melvin has to at least look. DeRosa plays 2nd doesn't he, could we get him from the Indians?
  11. With all the antics that NFL players get away with I guess I don't get why those same antics in baseball are viewed as disrespectful. I mean if Gilbert Brown could dig the QB's grave after a sack, I think Braun should be able to strut a little bit. I think it is actually against NBA rules for a player not to scream after a dunk. In soccer there is Brandi Chastain. So when one celebrates in baseball why is it viewed so negatively?
  12. Great win made even better due to the fact that the Cubs are just imploding in the 9th.
  13. Ah finally, postponed for the night and I can get on with my life. ............. And the first 2 innings don't count Could Gallardo hypethetically pitch on Sunday? Its not like he threw a ton of pitches, it was practically a bullpen session
  14. Based on the radar there is just no way they are going to be able to play tonight, just postpone the stupid thing already (And preferably restart without the 2-0 score. Wasn't it a couple years ago where opening day in STL got rained out in the 4th inning and the 4 inning were wiped off of the books?
  15. His K:BB ratio has gotten a lot better in May, probably closer to his career norms. He had a 19:4 K/BB ratio in April, after today I believe it is 17:8 for May. So yeah he is still striking out way too much but he starting to draw more walks like he usually does. If he can get his K:BB ratio closer to 1.5:1 and keep up the power we definitely have an allstar on our hands. Heck at this rate he is probably an All Star anways. Although there is a ton of competition at 2nd in the NL including Utley, Hudson, Sanchez, and Phillips. With all the HR's I am a little bit suprised that he has so fews doubles. Whats even weirder is that Utley only has 2 doubles all year despite hitting .286 with an OPS over 1 Going into this season I was going to hope for a .785 OPS or so which would have been a good improvement from last year. If he hangs around .850-.900 all year I will be ecstatic.
  16. I guess I just don't see how this makes any sense at all. They aren't going to bring him up as a pinch hitter. Hall has been playing well against lefties, and Counsell has been very good when he is in there as well. When the heck is he going to play? I can't imagine that they would call him up just for the heck of it. It would be pointless unless they plan on playing him a lot. Maybe Counsell tested positive http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif EDIT: Or maybe Hardy really didn't have a headache? A Counsell/Hall platoon at SS? Yeah I know I doubt just throwing out ideas
  17. I am not sure if this is true or not but it seems like Rickie is striking out a ton so far this year. I don't really like his 32:10 K to BB ratio going into tonights game. Obviously when he makes contact he is really crushing the ball but it seems like he is no where near as patient as he was last year. Maybe it is just a confidence thing, Rickie seems to be much more aggressive since he has had some early success as far as power is concerned. If he could get that K:BB ratio down to around 2:1 I would be much happier. He still seems to have trouble with the outside breaking pitches, he has got to start laying off of those.
  18. Hopefully the game doesn't come on until this storm passes over FDL, my Dish is black right now. First big soaker of the year, I love it!! Anyways I have a good feeling about this game.
  19. Personally I think it is just a matter of time before his walks pick up again. If he keeps pounding the ball, pitchers are going to shy away from him a bit. IMO the last coupleRickie had so little offensive confidence that he was extremely patient and is number #1 goal was to work the pitcher and try to get a walk. This year he has more confidence and has been quite a bit more aggressive. Plus I guess I don't remember him swinging at too many terrible pitches this year either. A couple 2 walk games or 8 walks in a week and the OBP will be right back up there.
  20. This is the 2nd time in 2 weeks tha Dish Network isn't carrying the HD signal for the game. Man they are really starting to bug me. How many times do I have to complain? I mean is it really so hard for TV companies to figure out when these games are in HD? I thought I hated Charter but Dish is really starting to get to me
  21. Well he does have his ERA under 6 now. Perhaps the thread should be retitled "How long of a leash would you give Parra?" It is a big game for him tommorrow, the Brewers are cruising last night and another bad outing by Parra would be pretty deflating IMO. This has been the story of Suppan's career with the Brewers. He can be so inconsistent despite being in the league for 80 years. I an ot expecting this out of him every time but is it too much to ask for a 4.5 ERA or so?
  22. I am pretty sure he isn't hitting his kids weight. Come one connect on of these fastballs already. These swing and misses are driving me crazy
  23. Well 89 pitches through 5, we'll at least see the bullpen for 3 innings tonight, or maybe the Scherzer blowup that Bill & Brian have been talking about the entire game will actaually happen
  24. Why does it seem like Rickie should be batting about .330 right now? He seems to be hitting the ball way to well to be hovering around .270. Hopefully we've seen the last time the Crew is under .500
