  1. I think batting Cameron lead off could also be considered stupid. I like Svuem more than I liked Yost but I don't know if I want him as the next manager. I would just assume start fresh next year with an entirely different staff save Mike Maddux. Jim Skaalen can beat it as far as I am concerned. He has failed to develop the offensive capabilities of our young guys and one could argue that some have gotten worse.
  2. You would think at some point the traders would realize that they are selling on good companies at reasonable prices. I agree with you Homer sooner or later their will be a week where the traders realize how cheap some of these stocks really are. If I had cash laying around I might even consider getting in on the action.
  3. Well we should get under 8,000 today, It looks like it will be a rough one
  4. Patrick. Has the band been reinstated yet? It has been 11 years. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  5. Yeah that is giving up way to much. I think Hart would get us a Jonathon Sanchez type pitcher. What about Hart for Jesse Litsch or Hart & Salome for Grienke? Salome is certainly dispensible at this point IMO. Kendall is back next year and LuCroy could be ready to go by 2010. Hart for Jurrjens?
  6. So why exactly are we assuming that Mark made the Suppan, Yost, Gagne signings? What did Melvin do in Texas to make everyone believe he isn't capable of making a bad decision on his own? Its not like he was winning championships and robbing teams left and right. I think the comparison between Steinbrenner and Attanasio is completely invalid except for the fact that they are willing to spend money. Who cares if Attanasio had dinner with Suppan right before he signed. If Doug really wanted him, it would have been stupid for Mark not to invite the guy over, Just like if Mark was looking at hiring a new executive VP at his other company. To me Mark isn't being any different from any other primary owner in any sport. The number of owners who are completely seperated from the sport side of things is extremely minimal. IMO Mark is just trying to field a competitive team and is willing to take chances to see that happen.
  7. Yeah but there are still people saying it will go much lower. Based on Cramer's 20% comment he expects the market to get into the low 8,000s. If that is the case their probably is still atleast 2-3 more rough months ahead. Most prognosticators are saying don't expect a ton of improvement until 2010.
  8. Even the 1/2 point cut today didn't give wall street a quick boost like a rate cut usually does. The Dow has been all over the place today.
  9. When I was in high school we never TPed anyone's house. It was an annual tradition that the seniors TPed the high school during homecoming week however. That was a fun time. One class always tried to beat out the next class with crazy stuff besides teepeeing. Weird misplaced furniture, animals (we had an enclosed open air area in our high school), among other things.
  10. Brewers eye new scoreboard in 2010 By Don Walker Tuesday, Oct 7 2008, 04:06 PM A Miller Park stadium district committee this afternoon gave conceptual approval to a Milwaukee Brewers plan to build and install a new high-definition scoreboard and audio system in Miller Park by opening day 2010. Estimated cost of the new scoreboard: Anywhere from $9 million to $12 million. The scoreboard will be funded largely by the Brewers. But the district has tentatively agreed to commit $5.25 million toward the project. That $5.25 million commitment comes from the district's segregated reserve fund, which is funded jointly by taxpayers in a five-county region and the Brewers. The new scoreboard will be built in the same location as the current scoreboard but will be bigger and better, team officials and district officials say. High-definition scoreboards are becoming the norm in stadiums. In addition to a new scoreboard, the sound system in Miller Park will be improved as well. Ever since the park opened in March 2001, there have been complaints about the quality of the sound system. ----- I really don't have any complaints about the scoreboard, the audo can be pretty crappy at times
  11. I would be interested how you came to this conclusion because frankly I don't believe it. There are people that post here who are affliated with the organization and I haven't seeing any posts saying the environment inside the Brewers organization has worsened. Besides making money and raising money is needed to continue putting a qaulity team out on the field. That is distinctly baseball related. I highly doubt that before Mark got here that business was 2nd and the baseball 1st. The team was crappy for so long they had to concentrate and not losing money because if they did it would be even harder to sell the team. If anything the late Selig days were absolutely business 1st and baseball 2nd.
  12. I think it is a little late for that, unless Cramer thinks the market is going to drop another 20%. IMO if you haven't gotten out already you might as well just ride it out. Even though these numbers make me want to get out.
  13. There is no way the Cubs could afford both CC and Dempster. Plus they still have a ton of other long term contracts for the next 3-4 years. I just don't see them going hard after CC, especially due to their pending sale.
  14. Anohter 7% and 730 points today. Under 10,000 for the first time since 2004. Holy cripes is Wall Street freaking out. The only good thing about this mess is that it is causing a huge drop in oil prices.
  15. Braun shouldn't have said that, now he has my hopes up. As much as I really think CC loved it here, the Yankees, Angels, Dodgers, etc could offer him so much more money it isn't even funny. If I had to choose between staying in a great clubhouse and making $9-100 million or signing with another team for $130 million I would take the $130 million in a heartbeat. Whatever team he decidest to sign with will surely promote themselves as having a good clubhouse. New friends are easily made especially for a guy like CC.
  16. I would totally do Suppan + something for Beltre. Pitching in Seattle might help Suppan anyways. He needs to find a pitchers ballpark because he gies up so many stinking HRs. Maybe San Diego would like to have him.
  17. How about this for a blockbuster? Hardy, Fielder, Hart and LuCroy for Beltre, Clement, and King Felix/Morrow. The Mariners can move Hardy to 3rd, fill the blackhole they have at 1st, and get rid of Beltre's contract. I know it will never happen but thought I would post it anyways.
  18. Russel Branyan
  19. I think the offense and coaching staff will see a major overhaul. I would be willing to bet that at least 2 of Weeks, Hall, Hart, Cameron, and Fielder will be playing somewhere else next year. Corey as very good earlier this year but his outright refusal to take a few pitches is infuriating. I don't know if the coaching staff isn't doing their job or if our young guys really are that stubborn. I am hoping a fresh coaching face will get these guys to change their approach. I think we need a non-players manager next year. Someone who isn't going to protect his players constantly and perhaps instill some accountability. Braun and Hardy are the only 2 guys I want back for sure next year and Fielder is probably in that category as well. I won't be heart broken if we trade any of our other position players. We need some darn OBP.
  20. For some odd reason I am more happy about the Cubs choking than I am pissed that the Brewers are losing. Probably because the Brewers aren't expected to do anything whereas the Cubs have been the NL favorite for pretty much the entire year.
  21. IMO it should be Counsell Durham Braun Fielder Hardy Cameron Kendall Hart SS
  22. Personally, I think they'd be wise, regardless of what happens, to keep the team basically the same. Not going to get much better than a high OBP/high SLG lineup, a high K/low BB pitching staff, and a solid defense. That is what I was thinking, but I could see some major over reactions coming out of the front office. However all their big guys (Soriano, Ramirez, and Lee) will be be one year older and they can't possibly count on Edmonds, Theriot, Fontenot to duplicate thier performance next year. It will be a tough call for Jim Hendry.
  23. I wonder what kind of offseason the Cubs would have is they lose in the 1st round again? Would it be a major shakeup or would they trot out the same team again? It would be very interesting. If the Brewers can't win it I will at least take some satisfaction if the Cubs don't win it either.
  24. Cappy could be a huge boost to the rotation next year if he could return to his 2005 and 2006 numbers. I won't hold my breath but I hope he makes it back at some point. The Brewers can't count on him returning back to form so I would just assume they proceed in the offseason assuming he won't pitch and if he does that is just gravy.
