  1. Are you sure they would be 10x better? If they get Peavy it is unlikely they resign Peavy. How much better can Peavy be than Dempster was last year? Not a whole lot better IMO, plus the Cubs would be losing a ton of depth and would in for a world of hurt if they are struck by the injury bug. I think they will be better but it won't guarantee a division title.
  2. So let me get this straight. Just because the Cubs will have the far superior team in terms of talent the Brewers will rebuild? I was responding to the poster saying we might as well rebuild because we have no chance of beating the Cubs. The Wild Card allows us to make the playoffs despite being the inferior team in the division. How exactly is that a bad thing and how exactly is rebuilding going to solve anything? That was my argument. I wasn't implying that I will always accept the wild card instead of a division crown, but the option is there so that is why it doesn't make any sense to rebuild with as much talent as we have.
  3. The beauty of the wild card. IF the Cubs were to trade for Peavy they better hope they remain injury free and crappy performance free in 2008 because they won't be able to trade for any meaningful player or call up any meaningful player. I can't imagine they are looking to add a ton of payroll while trying to sell the team. They are going to have to unload Marquis, and it is unlikely that they resign Dempster. While trading for Peavy will probably make them a better team how can they expect Peavy this year to be any better than Dempster was last year? I know the expectation is that Demp will drop off this year so that is probably a mute point.
  4. I thought Prince was the king of irrelevant HR's? That is just not a good argument. I would like to see you prove that fact. If you can prove that he hits more HR's than other players do when the outcome is not in question then I guess I will be proven wrong. Cam is not the defender he was 5 years ago but he is still Top 5 CF in the NL easily, don't let one play in the NLCS fool you, he was very good. It seems you are basing your opinion on Cameron on one bad month and completely forgetting that he carried the team for a better part of the 2nd half. The guy had a 1.2OPS in August and a .821OPS in July, he absolutely carried us. Perhaps look at his RISP his 3 previous years, they are very very good. Cam is simply better than most people give him credit for. Without a doubt he is the best all around CF the Brewers have had in a very long tim. That being said, I would atleast consider a Cam for Melky & Kennedy swap. If Kennedy is as good as his 2007 minor league season showed he has much more ability than Dave Bush and perhaps a #2/3. If you could trade Cameron for a #2/3 pitcher who we would have for 5-6 years I think it is probably a no brainer. He had 6 bad starts for NY last year, but it looks like he still has oodles of potential and could help out the Crew immediately. I guess it depends on if Melvin thinks he has MLB stuff or AAAA stuff.
  5. I still don't know how the Cubs can win this thing. Pie isn't the prospect he used to be and Vitters is still in A ball and didn't exactly light the world on fire. Peavy, Z, Harden, and Lilly sounds very good on paper but 3 of the 4 guys (excluding Lilly) have had some recent injury issues. If the Cubs do pull this off they will have officially 0 legitimate prospects available for the rest of the winter or next eyar trading deadline. I wish the Crew could get involved here but it sounds like it ain't happening. Towers seems to have backed himself into a corner here too basically saying that Peavy will get traded no matter what.
  6. If the Yanks would take Suppan & Cameron I would accept only Cabrera in return. We would have some major $ to fill some areas of need via FA or Trade and offer contract extensions to our young guys.
  7. IMO the drop in talent is to much to rationalize the loss Cam's $10M salary. The Brewers aren't rebuilding next year, they are trying to be competitive and I fail to see how trading Cameron for Cabrera and Betemit doesn't make us a worse team. We shouldn't trade for a couple switch hitters just because the Crew is so right handed dominant, they actually need to be good. Cameron's OPS against righties last year was nearly identical to Melky's best OPS against a righty in his career. Granted he is young and will probably improve but the fact remains. Add in the defensive downgrade and I don't see how this can be a positive I also wouldn't say a lot of us were opposed to the Cameron option. It seems like a large majority agreed with the move.
  8. His best year was also only .278/.361/.762. Cameron last year against Righties was .231/.309/761 So Cam gives up a bunch of OBP but more than makes up for it in SLG. Plus Cam plays better defense and can actually hit off of lefties
  9. Melky & Betemit are spare parts. Unless the pitcher is Phil Hughes or Ian Kennedy this makes no sense at all other than saving a few bucks. Major downgrade on offense and defense in CF and Betemit is essentially a switch-hitting version of Bill Hall.
  10. MAM has been one of the suprises in the NBA so far. He sounds like a 2nd round steal at this point. The Bucks showed some very good flashes last night. An awful 12 minutes stretch in the 2nd and 3rd quarters really put them in awhile but they fought back playing some good defense and some solid play by Sessions/Ridnour. Jefferson also had his first excellent game as a Buck. They have a very tough next 4 games in which they should be major under dogs in each so this win was pretty important. I just can't see them beating Boston, Phoenix, Cleveland or San Antonio. I also don't understand why Bogut is so bad at free throws. He has progressivly gotten worse, you would think the coaches work big time on this. He had the ability to hit a jump shot in college but since he has gotten to the NBA that skill has all but vanished. Perhaps that was at the advice of his early coaches. He was a 67% FT and 36% 3PT shoooter at Utah so he is capable but I have a suspiciion that Stotts and Larry K were tinkering with his shot to much and now he is completely screwed up.
  11. What is Omar Aguilar's ETA? He struggled early but came on strong late in the year at AA. 9.9 K/9, a 1.26 WHIP, and 6.1 H/9 is pretty darn good considering his pretty poor start at Huntsville. It also looks like he regularly went more than 1 inning. We could use someone like that. I don't think I would want him as a closer until he proved himself in the Bigs but it seems like he could be a solid contributor to the bullpen.
  12. If they are going to offer 5/100 I bet Doug thinks they could realistically afford 5/115. Whats another $3M annually anyways? I would gladly pay 15% more for tickets if it meant we could sign Top Tier guys. I don't know if 5/115 would get it done either but it makes sense to me atleast that their initial offer would leave enough breathing room in the budget to allow for some negotiations. My only fear is that if we miraculously sign CC that we can't afford to get a decent 3rd basemen or we have to rely on scrap heap relievers again. I have a feeling Doug is going all out for CC and hoping Hall and Riske rebound next year.
  13. IMO you are underestimating her. She is no Erin Andrews looks-wise but she is as talented a "sideline reporter" as you will get. She was a very good interviewer with a pleasant personality. I doubt whomever the Brewers replace her with (If they have to) will be as good as Trenni. Obviously MLB Network liked her, she only had the job one year and she was already turning heads. FSN should really do something about Davey, I thought he would get better with more experience but he is just not meant to be on camera.
  14. I only have a yahoo account to participate in fantasy sports. I use hotmail and have no complaints. I don't use it that often because my work email is my primary address.
  15. No Mike Cameron. The writers at rotoworld are a little curious about the McClouth Pick.
  16. That is a very good article. I really hope CC picks Awesome Offices.
  17. He would have been stupid to turn down an 11% pay increase to go to Texas where I believe they have no state income tax. Probably a pretty wise decision but he does have his work cut out for him. Like mentioned previously, they have some young talent but Maddux is more known for reclamation projects than he is developing young pitchers. I wish him the best.
  18. I am on the Beltre bandwagon for sure. He would have to give up minimal value to get him if we take on the contract. I wouldn't mind having Atkins on the team, he is probably better than Hall/Counsell was last year but I think Hall also has the potential to be much better than him next year. Of course that is assuming Hall actually gets a clue and uses his talent which is probably unlikely at this point.
  19. If Manny gets 6 years the world might come to an end. I think the Yanks end up adding him for $6 years and about $160 million. Man I wish the Brewers had someone like him. Gold Glove defender who can switch hit with power. They sure don't come around very often. I think it will come down to the Yanks and the Halos. Can the Yankees afford CC and Tex? That is $50M + locked up for the next 5 years on 2 players.
  20. I literally can't fathom how much it would take to get Peavy given his awesome contract. Maybe the injury issue will offer a little discount but it seems like the talks would start with Jeffress and Salome with some more good talent included. I wonder if Jeffress, Salome, Braddock and TGR could get us Peavy and Heath Bell? I don't know if they are looking for MLB ready talent, I guess I am assuming they are looking at rebuilding. If they are looking at MLB caliber perhaps we could substitute Weeks or Hart for Salome and Braddock. Jeffress, Weeks, and TGJ for Peavy and Bell?
  21. This seemed like a no brainer move if their ever was one. We couldn't get a CF as good as Cameron for $10M, we have no viable internal options, and trading for a CF would result in losing prospects and/or current members of the MLB club. Hopefully by 2010 Lorenzo Cain develops enough to take CF going forward.
  22. Good win yesterday, I will take 2-2 after 3 of 4 on the road. It would have been nice to steal that Toronto game though. The only problems I have with the NBA is the one on one style of play (The good teams don't do this on most nights), the long season, and the fact that 8 teams make the playoffs when most times the 7-8 seed is under .500. I loved the Bucks when we had the Big 3 and most of my friends did to. When they traded Ray Allen they were pretty much dead to me for the next couple years. Terrible GM's, terrible coaches, terrible players, and a moron owner have led the Bucks to where they are today. They are taking some good first steps here so I am starting to get interested again. They have a good core group.
  23. Another option would be to take on some salary in a trade. Find a team trying to dump salary, that way Melvin may have to give up minimal value for the player if Melvin picks up most if not all of the salary. Not sure which teams are trying to shed payroll at this point and if they would even be a match.
  24. I wonder if they would spend the $25M they intended for Sabathia on other FA's if Sabathia decided to go elsewhere? I would assume they accounted for arbitration raises already when they offered CC $25M a year. I would imagine we could get 2 very good players for a combined $25M if they wanted to.
