  1. And to think we could be up 4-0 going for the sweep today and only 1 game under .500
  2. So we could potentially include this pick in a Grienke trade since the acquiring team cant get draft pick compensation in the offseason right? I suppose this could persuade a team to give up an elite prospect if they otherwise wouldn't due to the lack of draft pick compensation. I am all for trading the pick if it means we could get an elite prospect for Grienke
  3. Apparently it was too good to be true; we got squat. How can weather.com show a 95% chance of rain and we don't get squat.
  4. When you are talking about two mediocre players I have no problems basing playing time decisions on recent performance. Now if he had a superstar that was having a bad month and decided to sub him out often then I have an issue. As it is we are talking about Gomez and Morgan; neither of whom are very good. Besides 5 years is an eternity in baseball; a player can be completely different over that span and I don't know how much sense it makes to make any decision based on 5 year splits (especially if the player on the wrong side of the development cycle)
  5. weather.com shows a 55-95% chance of rain in FDL at 8-10 PM tonigh.? Can it be true? Looks like a pretty widespread rain shower / thunderstorm is expected. Doesn't look like it extends down to MIL though. If this fizzles out again and FDL is left with nothing I am going to be pretty disappointed
  6. I am starting to prepare myself to be entirely let down by the return we get for Grienke. To this point I have underestimated how big of a deal the lack of draft pick compensation is going to be for the buying team. Even if they ship out a 1st round type talent they used to be able to get a high pick right back, not anymore. I don't think the Brewers have much of a chance of getting an elite prospect from anyone for that reason. They might be better off taking the draft picks this offseason although those returns would come much later. If Doug is worried at all about his job he might be more inclined to get a immediate allbeit mediocre return through a trade rather than get a draft pick in 2013 which wouldn't sniff the big leagues until 2015 at the earliest. And I don't know that it will even be DM's fault if the return seems like crap compared to prior years; the trade market has just fundamentally changed.
  7. Major League pitching could be a lot of different things I suppose. Maybe like Eovaldi?
  8. The failures of Axford just make you appreciate even more the guys that have been consistently good closer for so long. Rivera, Hoffman, Nathan, Papelbon, Etc. Those guys have had their hiccups but to be able to close games year after year is something that can't be taken for granted. I just wish the Brewers could have one closer that wouldn't flame out after 1-1.5 years. Axford just seems like he is throwing up there and praying that it goes where it is supposed to. He really has no idea where it is going. Krod has been better but unless you just hide Axford somewhere or give him the Dillard role he is still going to an important pitcher in late game situations. And I know it shouldn't bug me but the utter lack of emotion that Axford shows after walking a guy or blowing a save is just maddening. He just goes on business as usual. That is probably what a closer is supposed to do but it is still a little irritating to the fan in me
  9. Enough with the 3 games in a row schtick. He pitched 4 stinkin pitches in Game #1, didn't even pitch 5 innings in Game #2 and had his normal days off between Games #2 and #3. I think it is just that point of the year that he has a little arm fatigue. Even if he is hurt I highly doubt that the last week somehow blew up his arm. He is probably just reaching that point in the pitchers life cycle where he is due to hurt something. Not great timing as far as the Brewers are concerned thats for sure. But better to do it now to make sure he is healthy on July 31st.
  10. 2 scoreless innings so far with one walk and not hits. Being effective for Sheets later in the game will probably be a little harder.
  11. There are certain parts of the team that are trending in the right direction. The offense has generally been good with Weeks improving substantially in June. The starting pitching has held up pretty well due to the strong performances from Grienke, Gallardo, and Fiers. The huge concern still remains the bullpen. If Krod, Veras, and Axford turn it around then this team can definitely go on a run. I just hope it isn't too little to late. 6-3 in the next 9 is mandatory otherwise it won't matter if the BP ever figures it out because we won't have the pieces in the other areas since they are probably traded
  12. All I was saying is if the best package he is offered doesn't include any pitching then you have to take it. Don't take a lesser package just because it includes a pitcher who could help in 2013. Also I am comfortable that with the pitching prospects we have in the pipeline that we could field a pretty decent rotation in 2013 and beyond if only one decent FA pitcher is signed (Like a #2 or #3, not necesarily a Grienke type). The Crew has some decent pitching prospects right now; but they are seriously devoid of impact power hitters at the AA and AAA levels. They have some potential there but certainly no headliners. Someone like Olt would immediately change that.
  13. I don't think a major league ready pitcher has to be mandatory. Yes we have spots to fill but I don't want to forego a better package just to get a guy we can plug in for 2013. You will have Gallardo, Fiers, Thornburg, and Estrada for sure in 2013. By no means is that a good rotation; but I don't want a trade package centered around an OK SP prospect just because they are ready to contribute now. That major league ready SP better be pretty darn good if you pass over someone like Olt or Segura
  14. I fail to see how this is screwing anyone. Is this going to stop him from being in the rotation next year? No. Is pitching in MLB somehow going to stunt his development? Highly unlikely. If haveing Thornburg pitching in MIL rather than Dillard going to improve the team? Yes. Hell Thornburg is even getting a nice paycheck out of this; I am sure he appreciates it. I really don't understand why people are so upset about MIL using a good starting prospect in relif for 3 weeks until undoubtedly someone gets traded and he moves into the rotation. Even a best case scenario where we make a big time run just means we have a power guy in the bullpen to go to for the rest of the year. I fail to see the downside. Thornburg isn't going to get any better pitching in AAA where a large portion of the hitters are washed up retreads or roster fillers at best.
  15. Udoh would be competent at a back up 5; Sanders really has no role anymore. I would think both Gooden and Sanders are available to basically any team that would want them.
  16. The only thing that lack of walk of famers tells me is how mediocre the team has been for a long time; there just aren't that many deserving inviduals. Yes this isn't the MLB hall of fame or anything but I have a hard time complaining about the Brewers guys that aren't in there right now. The Brewers have had a huge lack of elite/top tier talent in the last 20 years. Only in the last decade have the Brewers really had WOF type talent (Such as Fielder, Braun, Sheets). The 90's was just a completely lost decade for the most part.
  17. I agree that trading Aram seems pretty darn unlikely at this point. Hart would seem the much more likely of the two to get traded. Aram's contract really isn't that bad and I do wonder why people are so eager to shed that salary. Except for a bad April he has been great. I suppose you could make the argument that you try to sell high on the guy but Mark can't just have a firesale; they need to stay atleast somewhat competitive to appease the fan base. Trading away every tradeable piece you have would be pretty unwise.
  18. There aren't any good options and no doubt the guy they do bring up will be the last guy on the bench. It will likely be a rather insignificant move. If Green needs significant AB's to be MLB player that doesn't bode well for him in MIL because it is pretty unlikely he will have a starting spot anywhere. Aram and Weeks aren't going anywhere.
  19. Bundy would never happen. If they won't trade Machado then don't even bother calling back. No one else really intrigues me all that much; there is a huge drop off after those two.
  20. I don't understand why Henderson hasn't been given a shot. He certainly can't be any worse than what we are throwing out there now.
  21. I don't know that having to watch Ishi and Green for 1/2 a season would be the worst thing in the world. If we are going to lose we might as well lose as much as possible. Ishi hasn't been that bad but I don't think he could keep it up on a regular basis. The emergence of Hunter Morris as a legitimate prospect might make trading Hart a little more palatable. Plus you obviously have Gamel as well.
  22. I always understood it that you could take a player of the salary cap but you still had to pay him. It appears that is mostly correct. Keep waiting for the Ersan decision; I imagine Hammond is waiting as well so he can move on one way or the other.
  23. Thats the only complaint I have about him; he just doesn't bring enough excitement and enthusiasm to big plays. He calls them just like any other play. I definitely hasn't found a good HR call yet.
  24. The guy who has 30 career posts with more than 1/2 on this topic alone is accusing long time posters of trolling? OK.
  25. Can we just surrender after the 7th inning already. Jeez. Might as well cheer for PIT and CIN wins now just so we can be put out of our misery
