  1. What's bugging me? Stupid commercials during the Brewers radio broadcasts. I'm not a violent person by nature, but such anger wells up in my very soul when I hear "B-Rad" talking about his free cell phone that I fear for those near me. Serenity Now...Serenity Now.
  2. I just thought he was a fan of Paul Quantrill.
  3. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/11/brewers-claim-arcenio-leon.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MlbTradeRumors+%28MLB+Trade+Rumors%29 The Brewers announced that they claimed right-hander Arcenio Leon off of waivers from the Astros. Leon spent the 2012 season pitching in relief for Houston's Double-A affiliate. The 26-year-old appeared in 44 games, posting a 4.38 ERA with 8.2 K/9 and 4.7 BB/9 in 63 2/3 innings. He has had trouble limiting walks in eight seasons as a professional, as his career rate of 5.2 BB/9 indicates.

  6. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/10/arbitration-eligibles-milwaukee-brewers.html They are projecting the following arbitration estimates: •First time: John Axford ($5.1MM), Travis Ishikawa ($900K), Chris Narveson ($800K), Marco Estrada ($1.6MM) •Second time: Nyjer Morgan ($2.6MM) •Third time: Jose Veras ($2.6MM), Manny Parra ($1.6MM), Kameron Loe ($2.6MM) •Fourth time: Carlos Gomez ($3.4MM)
  7. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/10/ben-sheets-to-retire.html Ben Sheets will retire after he pitches tomorrow, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports (on Twitter). Sheets, who joined the Braves midseason after missing the entire 2011 campaign, said he will never pitch again. Sheets, 34, made eight starts for the Braves this summer after missing a year to recover from flexor tendon surgery. He posted a 3.54 ERA with 6.1 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9 in 48 1/3 innings for Atlanta this year, re-establishing himself as a legitimate MLB starter. The Brewers selected Sheets with the tenth overall pick in the 1999 draft and he spent most of his career in Milwaukee. He put together a number of strong seasons with the Brewers, including a memorable 2004 campaign. Sheets posted a 2.70 ERA with 264 strikeouts and just 32 walks in 237 innings that year, finishing eighth in the Cy Young balloting. In ten MLB seasons, Sheets has a 94-96 record, a 3.78 ERA and 1323 strikeouts in 1595 2/3 innings. He has earned more than $52MM as a professional, according to Baseball-Reference.
  8. My wife watches the local morning news show each day. I try my best to avoid it, but sometimes I get sucked in. This morning, they were doing a satellite interview with some C-List celebrity. I thought something looked just a bit "off" with the interview. The timing between the questions and the answers was just not natural. At first I thought it was just satellite delay...but then I started to think that it might not be "live". Do local shows like that receive a video copy of the "celebrity" answering scripted questions that the interviewer must follow? I guess that makes sense...so that "Johnny Neverwas" doesn't have to do the same interview dozens of times to promote his new sitcom...but something about it just rubs me the wrong way.
  9. Phil Hartman as Frank Sinatra. Chris Rock as Luther Campbell. Sting as Billy Idol. Jan Hooks as Sinead O'Connor. http://www.hulu.com/watch/3531
  10. One of the first games that I went to as a kid was in the mid-to-late 80's. It was against the Rangers...it was seat cushion night, and something happened in the game that inspired everyone in the bleachers to throw their seat cushions onto the warning track. (dont' remember exactly what prompted it...I remember something about Pete Incaviglia running into the wall and getting hurt?) Anyway, play was delayed for several minutes while staff collected all the seat cushions from the track. That may have been the last seat cushion give away game.
  11. Whenever I hear the song, Wonderwall, by Oasis, I find myself thinking: "Because Maybe You're gonna be the one that saves me and after all your John VanderWal"
  12. He never actually played for the Brewers, but I believe he was the starting center fielder in Spring Training on the replacement player squad of 1995: Basil Shabazz.
  13. Probably just Russell Branyan taking batting practice.
  14. Thank you for bringing up Luis Martinez. I remember being SOOO pumped when he made his major league debut with the Brewers after a great season in the minors. Ah the memories. I also remember riding the Jose Mieses bandwagon at one point. I may have even been driving for a short time.
  15. I love the monstrosity in the outfield. I can't even look at it without laughing out loud. I remember when the first renderings of that statue were released...I didn't think it was real. But oh man...It's real...and it's hideous. It looks like something that you would see during an interlude on a Monty Python movie. If they make any changes to it...I predict it will be to make it bigger and more gaudy.
  16. Being in my car between 7:57 and 8:00 am. There are three stations that I jump back and forth between on my morning commute. Most of the time I can avoid commercials. Unfortunately, just before 8 am each morning, all three stations run ads. Okay...it's pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things...but it bugs me.
  17. Anyone else notice Prince's appearance in the Chrysler ad during the superbowl last night? It was very brief, and you can't even see his face...but the flat brim gives it away (about 45 seconds in): http://www.freep.com/arti...uper-Bowl-ad?odyssey=mod|mostview
  18. The Record low temperature for today in Green Bay was set in 1994 (-28 degrees). I remember that cold snap, as I was a senior in high school. The temperature fell below zero at 3pm on Thursday, January 13th. It did not get back above zero until Thursday, January 20th.
  19. Congratulations to all who post in this thread. I haven't watched any professional wrestling on TV since I was forced to watch an episode of RAW in the early 2000's when I was invited to his house for a Monday Night Football game, and he kept turning over to RAW during commercial breaks (and sometimes forgot to turn back). When I was a kid, I used to watch wrestling on Saturday mornings, but wouldn't say I was "Into It" at all. Anyway, despite all of this, for some inexplicible reason, this thread is one of my must-read on bf.net right now. I only have the faintest idea of what's being discussed, but for some reason, I find it fascinating. Keep up the good work. If I ever actually watch wrestling at some point, maybe I'll actually post something to move the discussion forward.
  20. At this point, every day when I make my first visit to brewerfan.net of the day, I am suprised when I do not see a headline saying that "Fielder Signs with ". I certainly never expected him to be on the market this long.
  21. Decemberists "The King is Dead" This.
  22. Drove across the state on Highway 29 this past weekend. On one stretch of the highway, there are these "Road Test" signs, with a number underneath them. Anyone know what these signs are for? I tried google, but found nothing useful...so now I turn to bf.net :-)
  23. I guess McGehee's leash was only as long as the regular season. Roenicke sticks with him for the entire season, and then when the playoffs start, he's banished (rightfully, IMHO) to pinch-hitting duties. Maybe next season we'll start an optimal lineup in the regular season, and not just wait till the playoffs.
