  1. I've got it on my calendar to get our paperwork turned in next week. I'll keep checking back here or feel free to PM me! EDIT: If it doesn't work out to get something set up in time for this year, it'd be nice to at least lay some groundwork for next year.
  2. If I'm not mistaken, last night's Ads game had a promo for a goalie glove oven mitt. Couldn't make it to the game, anyone have an extra? (Unless you tell me the glove is a p.o.s. ... I'm assuming it's halfway decent.) I would trade U.S. currency or possibly the Uecker bobblehead from next Friday's game which I'm planning to attend.
  3. Interested in being a sub some nights, ICN? We have time to fill out the roster, but the deadline is coming up soon to submit the team/sponsor registration. Should we try to do a co-sponsor thing? If someone has a contact and we can move quickly, we might be able to save each player some money. Let's get a dialog going in this thread and we'll see where we're at a week from now before I need to turn in our team/sponsor forms.
  4. Hmm, why such large gaps between the board and the advertising panels on the sides? I sure hope that's just temporary, it looks awful.
  5. Getting some cost relief would be nice, but as I understand it we really can't introduce other sponsors to the mix if we want to continue as the BF.net team. I can understand the reasoning, as soon as BF.net's name gets attached to some other organization like a bar or whatever, an element of control is lost in terms of the site's image/reputation/etc. Maybe something small would be approved, or maybe something that involved one of the site's past/present/future affiliates (eg, Long Wong's). I could try to get a response before the mid-Feb deadline....
  6. Well, I definitely couldn't care less if this stereotype is out there. In fact, the more it's out there, the better. I hope Yankees fans are reminded as much as possible that they have it easy, that their team has a ridiculous advantage, and that their championships and successes are less impressive than the championships and successes of other teams. And I didn't detect any anger in Messiah's post. As already mentioned, it was much tamer and much more grounded in reality than most things said about the Cubs on this forum. It actually seemed like a pretty normal post, summarizing the evil empire's disappointing off-season in spirited and entertaining fashion. All that said, if I had the money the Yanks did, I'd do this signing. What a great 1-2 punch they'll have in the 8th and 9th. This is the kind of thing you can do when you print your own cash.
  7. Hard to blame ya, Razzor. Pretty amazing the amount of travel you put into being on the team all these years. We'll definitely need to have you make some guest appearances this season if you're up for it. Please have your cousin post here if he's in. Looks like we'll definitely be in the market for some new players this year. Razzzor out, possibly his cousin out, Brent's gone (right?), and Happy is probably out too due to his schedule? It'd be nice if we had a solid list of 9-10 guys before we commit and pay the big team fee. Sounds like we're at seven right now, not too far off, and our team entry isn't due until mid-February, so we've got some time to assemble more names. Radman, should we count on Firenick being back? Nullbyte, would your brother be interested? Hopefully Iron Chef, Ando, etc will stumble upon this and let us know if they're back. I can PM them if need be. When the renewal comes around next month, I have no problem taking care of it. We'll all just square up when we get together in the spring for practices....!!
  8. I saw Back to the Future II when it came out 20 years ago. I could have sworn that in the 80s diner scene, there was a part where Marty interracts with Max Headroom on a video screen at the counter. I believe Max was pimping some Pepsi product. But I watched the movie last night after getting the 25th Anniversary Trilogy for Christmas, and there were only Headroom-like versions of Michael Jackson, Ronald Reagan, and Ayatolah Whatshisnamey on video screens in the diner. Google research mostly alludes to the Headroom-like characters, but I did find a reference or two to Max himself being in the movie the way I remember. I feel so sure that I saw Max in the movie back then, I'm going to assume he was editted out for some kind of litigious reason. Bugs me that I don't know the truth!
  9. ...making perfect "best of" compilation CDs...
  10. Chris was, and will continue to be, one of my absolute top favorite Brewers ever. Just a talented, hard-working, poised, well-spoken guy that I loved rooting for. Will never forget all the sly pickoff moves. Will always remember going to Miller Park before the 2006 All-Star game with my homemade "Vote for Cappy" t-shirt when he was a Final Vote candidate. Oh, and the man was great on that episode of TY&tR, too. Was awesome to see him come back and have success last year, I hope the success continues!
  11. Ah, yes, the number of Zacks/Zachs. Let the printing of the shirseys commence! Rather astonishing to me. Zach Jackson, then Zach Braddock, now Zack Greinke. If there have been any other #13s on the team in the last few years, I can't recall....
  12. I was starting to become a huge Cain fan, but I'm dancing about Greinke being a Brewer. To think that last offseason we were convincing ourselves that Wolf was a true #2 and if we cross our fingers really hard, we'll be okay with guys like Davis, Bush, and Parra rounding out the rotation. A year later, Wolf is our #4 and spots 1-3 are held by legit, young aces. For someone who has always been drawn more to the pitching and defense side of baseball, I'm elated. On the downside, I feel it's unlikely that our 2011 SS will be anyone other than Betancourt. I think DM acquired him to plug the SS hole -- I hope I'm wrong.
  13. Just curious what this is based on? He only has 13 career plate appearances, so you couldn't draw any conclusions either way, but even if you relied on that small sample he has a .250 OBP and .200 SLG in those limited opportunities. In the interview he did with Toronto radio, his tone was very apprehensive about batting regularly and he described his career at bats in an almost fearful-sounding way. "You couldn't get me out of the box soon enough ... I don't know how hitters do it." (paraphrase)
  14. Bah, wish they'd find a trade partner for Weeks and sign Hudson to a couple year deal. Of course, a team would be foolish to give up something for Weeks when they could just go get Hudson themselves. Too bad it's not Weeks' walk year. Rickie sure has a lot of supporters on this board, though!
  15. I guess I'll have to see what's available in stores. Just judging from Sunday ads, I've definitely seen more name brand 40"-42" plasmas in the $450-$500 range than I have name brand 40-42 LCDs for 450-500.
  16. Interesting. I didn't realize that OTA broadcasts weren't 1080P -- with a little bit of research, that appears to be the case. Yeah, no reason to reach beyond 720P in this case then. Thank you. Power consumption was something I thought about, but according to the charts I've seen it's a difference of less than $2 per month. Glare is a legit concern. Their living room has a large bay window on a wall that's perpendicular to the TV, but that's it, I think they should be okay. I've managed to make do with my plasma despite having windows on the wall opposite the TV and only 12 feet away. Definite glare sometimes, but not the end of the world....
  17. My extended family is going in together on a new TV for my grandparents. We're planning on a 40"-42" flat panel, name brand, and trying to stay around $500. Some of my relatives sound like they're biased towards LCD and are also hinting that 1080P is a good idea. I'm a plasma guy myself, and personally don't think it matters. I also don't think 720P is a bad idea, helps stay in budget and I doubt the g'parents will be able to tell the difference. Their viewing habits are mostly Wheel of Fortune, PBS, network sitcoms, nightly news, Nascar, and Packers football. They're upgrading from an old 20" crt and they won't even be hooking up cable or satellite to the TV -- roof antenna all the way. In this application, can anyone raise a convincing argument for 1080P instead of 720P or LCD instead of plasma? In this week's ads, I'm eyeing up the 42" 720P Panasonic plasma at KMart for $450 or the 42" 720P Samsung plasma at American also for $450. And while I'm on the subject, why are all the ads these days listing the TV size as XX" Class.... Why "Class"? Is it just a CYA measure because the sizes aren't exact?
  18. Not to hi-jack, but a serious question about the texting law. Is it in effect at a red light? On the one hand, it seems silly to make it subjective and ask officers to distinguish drive time versus idle time, on the other hand it seems very silly -- and arguably a major infringement on our rights -- to say that a driver can't send a text while sitting idly at a red light. If I'm a criminal for answering "yes" or "no" to a text question while sitting at a red light instead of pulling into a parking lot to do the same, that's just sad and awful. Not to mention, it takes more attention to dial a 7-digit number (which is legal) than it does to send a 3-character text ... I think I might have some objection to the new law, in principle.
  19. ^^ Yeah. His vocal chords might scream Powell, but I'll just never be convinced his heart doesn't bleed Cubbie blue.
  20. Nothing profound, but Carlos was possibly my favorite Brewer over these last couple years. When the Brewers made the playoffs I decided to buy my first Brewers jersey and walked out of Miller Park with a handsome Villy #12 retro. Something about the guy's super cool, calm demeaner on the mound. Total poise. I always respected it, and more often than not his results were solid.
  21. I'll be there tomorrow in hat, gloves, and three long sleeve shirts under a red Badgers sweathshirt. The key is that I'll also have two pairs of socks on and sweatpants/long-johns under my jeans. I expect to be warmer than necessary. I think it's wrong to assume you won't be warm enough in layers given the appropriate corresponding moves. 30-35 degrees isn't exactly 10-15 degrees. I'm trying to convince my girlfriend this same thing -- no coats!
  22. I can't believe Bo Ryan doesn't have a better in-bounds play to run than that when the opposition is bringing five quick guards. Shouldn't there be a go-to play in that situation that at least attempts to create an open man? Not exactly setting up the players to succeed.
  23. New Orleans? Three days seems about right to experience the French Quarter, sample cajun & creole cuisine, do some local sight-seeing, etc. And temperatures are still in the 70s down there.
  24. The CST/CDT timezone initials and the seemingly careless use of them. During the summer months, if someone sends me an invitation for a party in December and they say it starts at 8:00 CDT, aren't they technically asking me to show up at 7:00 that day? I'm looking at our Brewers season ticket renewal, and the schedule has a footnote that says "All times CST" -- isn't that wrong? If I show up at 1:00 CST (GMT-6) on opening day, I would expect to be an hour early for the game since we'll be back on daylight saving time then (GMT-5). For that matter, forget situations that span the time change, it bothers me that all summer long I'll see friends, co-workers, etc specify times as CST. Isn't it pretty official that CST means GMT-6 and CDT means GMT-5? I just don't understand why they're used so willy-nilly, even in professional settings; it seems like something you'd take great care to get correct or something you'd just skirt around by using CT. Then again, I admit I could be totally wrong about this myself. It bugs me that I don't know if I'm right, and if I am right, it bugs me that it's so often wrong.
  25. Is he the sailor's only daughter? A child of the water?? Too proud to be a queen???
