  1. I hope Corey Hart was taking notes. You don't have to catch the ball flat-footed, high above your head, with your arm dangling down next to your thigh when a runner is tagging. It's okay to charge the ball, get your hand up by your glove, and put some actual momentum behind the throw.
  2. If 100% of other teams do it, I guess you've got to. If it's a high percentage, it's tenable enough. If it's less than 50%, they better not. I agree with the "butt of jokes" comment. Although I guess it wouldn't cost anything, since I'm assuming it would be sponsored by the Uno card game.
  3. I guess we'll just have to disagree then. I'm not referring to scorchers, I'm referring to plays like: 1) One of the few spring training games I attended this year, JJ flips a soft toss about waist-high to Weeks covering 2B. The ball hits Weeks' glove and he drops it. 2) Cubs game with CC on the hill, fails to catch/handle/secure the throw from JJ on a double-play ball. 3) Game 1 of the playoffs, Hall throws routinely over to first and Weeks finds a way to botch an unbotchable play. That's only three, but I know there's got to be at least another 5 similar incidents that I remember occuring in games while I was in the chat room. Can't recall the exact plays, but sure remember voicing the displeasure. Then there's probably another handful or several from times I was watching TV somewhere away from the computer. And some of them are inconsequential, but they're still an indicator of his bad glove. Like him taking a throw as cutoff man when there's basically no play, but finding a way to muff the catch to make absolutely sure there's no play. Or covering the bag at second on a play when there's no chance and doing something stupid with the glove to look like a little leaguer when the throw arrives. Maybe the count is more like 20-25 numbskull plays during this past year. JJ? Maybe 1 or 2 all year that are on the same level. Rickie is absolutely boneheaded in the field, I've seen enough to convince me of that. Maybe our standards are different or maybe I'm more observant or maybe it's something else, but I don't think I'm making it up and it amazes me that everyone doesn't feel roughly the same way on this.
  4. I saw Weeks drop or bobble at least 5 balls (maybe more like 10?) this year that any beer league softball player would have handled with ease. They're not close. Hardy is a talented hand-eye coordination ball player and Weeks is chronically boneheaded with the glove.
  5. Did some quick research. I think this might be the synth song you're looking for: . Gotta go to about the 0:47 mark. EDIT: If that's the song you wanted, you can thank the fact that Manny just went yard again earlier tonight (triggering my weak memory) and this wonderful thread: http://www.baseball-fever.com/showthread.php?t=49277.
  6. I was going to recommend a 30-30, too. Fun to shoot, easy to manage, affordable (ammo too), and an all-time classic.
  7. Environmental initiatives being counter-productive? Never!
  8. This season just won't end..... I'm in.
  9. Joke stealer! http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=8214
  10. Pathetic offense. 2.25 runs per game in the post season. Terrible and anemic throughout september. Bums. We were once supposedly a potent offensive team to be feared. What a joke. Also, the fact that a forum member can propose that we might be rebuilding for a few years and get responses telling him to "turn in his fancard" is flat-out hateful, elitist, and unacceptable. Some people on this board need to check themselves. Our hitting sucks, our defense sucks, young guys didn't step up, we're losing our top two pitchers, and our coaching situation is a mess ... that very well could lead to rebuilding. Obviously, we hope it can be avoided with a return trip to the post-season next year, but there will be 15 other NL teams making moves this off-season to improve themselves as well.
  11. It's kind of funny that when White Sox fans were arguing that their entire offense slumped for all of 2007, it was dismissed as a bad excuse for an aging club, but one year later, the entire Brewers offense slumps (mainly with young guys).
  12. Tax payers in the metro milwaukee area. So overlooked.
  13. Weeks is an embarassment of a ballplayer.
  14. You know what I hate? When a phone number has letters in it, but you're calling from a smart phone where the number keys are shared with a qwerty pad which doesn't show the mappings to ABC, DEF, GHI, etc; so you have no idea what 1-800-CUBS-DIE needs to translate to on the number pad. Someone needs to fix that.
  15. I plan to be there in the brand new retro Villanueva jersey I bought last night at fan zone (saw ewizabeff!).
  16. We've still yet to hit a recession.
  17. Not my take from being there. When Gagne first came onto the field, there was only modest recognition because somehow he seemed to basically go unnoticed. But when he took the mound and was formally announced, the crowd was very loud .... seemingly directly related to his latest philathropy. Crowd was very supportive while he was on the hilll, probably the most backing he's ever had as a Brewer. On commencement of his successful inning, the crowd was explosive. I might be the charter member of the booing-is-okay club, with Gagne being a key cog, but there's no denying that all year long Gagne has been a pretty remarkable social citizen. Seems like every time I'd turn around on an FSN broadcast, I'd hear about him donating $40,000 here and $50,000 there. And now this. Not sure what to say, but this was a great gesture and story to hear about, even for someone like me that rejects feel-goodery as much as possible. Props to Gagne. Tonight's crowd was special and electric, and his generosity is to be thanked.
  18. He walked the pitcher on four straight pitches. Can't blame 'em, no better time to boo than that....
  19. Great job Jamie! Hawing immortalized (with the scroll action, I'm not sure if the screen capture could be done better?): http://images.yuku.com/image/bmp/1c515b459bd1b928865ebc415de42ddbdd0542b.bmp
  20. Why can't Fielder, a firstbaseman, catch a baseball? I hope he's tradeable for decent pieces this off-season. Good riddance fatty.
  21. Very happy Ned's gone. And the guy who hit the game-winning home run in 1987 to give us our twelfth win in a row just took over as manager with twelve games left to go? This can't not work. Let the streak begin tonight....
  22. I highly doubt that if you replaced every boo bird with a mime -- or with my grandma who's famous for "you'll get 'em next time!" no matter what -- that the Brewers score a single run more than they did this past homestand. Sounds like whining and excuses to me.
