  1. If that's the case, I don't see them being a player for Fielder. Wouldn't make any sense if they were going forward with a full-fledged rebuild.
  2. I ask my wife why the guy is shirtless, and the answer is because he doesn't have have to put a new shirt on every time he changes back from a werewolf. Really????? My response to that would be, Why is he wearing pants? The wolves aren't seen wearing any. I have so many issues with this, I don't know where to start. A vampire's skin is supposed to burn when exposed to sunlight, not sparkle like a Christmas tree. You can't just re-write the strengths and weaknesses of an established monster. My wife read the books and loved them. She was very excited when they made the first move - until she actually watched it. I'm sure the books are OK, but the movies are dreadful.
  3. After Pujols is done "Jeter"-ing and re-signs with Cards after his flirtation with the Marlins to drive up his price, I think Miami will go hard after Fielder. Sure the team is in a tough division and will have to sign a few more pieces to compete but hey, no state income tax! At least that would mean he doesn't end up with the Cubs. That's the one move on his part that would make me hate him.
  4. The Packers pay into the current revenue sharing system (they currently have very high revenues and no debt, while the Eagles, Cowboys, and Texans are highly leveraged). I'm unsure of Robin's assumption that they were on the receiving end of revenue sharing in the 80's and 90's because despite the general awfulness of the team, they did sell out their games and had maintained their nationwide appeal (and I'm unsure of when revenue sharing began exactly). The last time the Packers were seriously threatened in an economic sense was before Lambeau Field was built in the 50's, when the NFL basically told them they either had to build a modern stadium or relocate to Milwaukee. Based on other posts I'm certain that Robin dislikes the Packers a great deal, so I'm just assuming this was him taking a jab at the Packers, especially with the "lesser" comment thrown in (apparently the team with the most World Championships is somehow "lesser" to the Cowboys in his eyes). Robin's point would be more relevant to when guys like George Halas and Wellington Mara took steps to ensure the survival of the team. Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder would crush them if given the chance. Hooray for NFL socialism!
  5. The one thing I'd be ok with is allowing the athletes to get a job, but that may be a slippery slope. Let's say Joe Football wants a job and applies at a local restaurant where the owner is a booster and a huge fan. What prevents him from giving this player $25 an hour and doesn't make him do any work? That could lead to huge recruiting violations. I think those cases would be few and far between but I can definitely see it happening. I'm a little confused, since I think this has already happened. I was under the assumption that college players could have summer jobs. That's the kind of scandal that got Rhett Bomar kicked off of OU's football team in 2006. The way you worded your opinion made it sound like this was against the rules.
  6. Were people in the stands listening to the Brewer game on radio? Did anyone seem more interested in the baseball game than the football game in front of them? Did the crowd ever rise up and cheer for no apparent football reason but an obvious baseball (Braun HR? RBI singles?) reason?Nope, I posted this on Friday so I wasn't at the game. Just shopping at Kohls.
  7. I agree with the bolded part, P&R is funnier than that. Still though, any episode with a Perd Hapley interview is going to be at least pretty good: "There you have it…where it is the thing Leslie Knope just said…about this situation." Yeah, and then they kept running with the joke. I was surprised they didn't make some sort of Brett Favre or Anthony Weiner joke (unless I missed it). April's admiration for Tammy 1 was pretty funny. "She's the cold, distant mother I never had. I love her."
  8. Was out and about here in Green Bay today, and saw just as many people in Brewers attire as I saw wearing Packers gear.
  9. Black really is a slimming color.
  10. Hated it. But I never really cared for the show outside of a handful of episodes from the first couple of seasons. And I'm someone who considers themselves to be very easily amused. Steve Carrell was always just way, way over the top. He always finds himself in incredibly awkward and uncomfortable situations, which he always makes worse. And by watching it, I somehow find myself feeling uncomfortable. In contrast, Larry David always finds himself in incredibly awkward and uncomfortable situations which he also makes worse. But Curb Your Enthusiasm (and obviously Seinfeld before that) is just on a completely different level. Larry has me in stitches in every single scene (obviously he can say certain things on HBO that you can't on NBC). I think the writers should get some objective feedback, discuss the future of the show, and then do what Stanley suggested they do with it throughout the episode. It still has its moments, but it's nowhere near as funny as Community and Parks & Rec. Losers, prove me wrong.

  16. Movies? He's already thinking about Los Angeles. Pretty obvious where he's signing now. 20th Century Fox... Fox Mulder... played by David Duchovny... who also starred in "Californication"... The Dodgers play in California... formerly owned by Rupert Murdoch who also owns 20th Century Fox...Coincidence? http://www.vinotrip.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/x-files-believe.jpg

  18. What percentage of total earnings can players earn on their contract in baseball vs basketball? Also, I am not familiar with the NBA salary rules but how much did he really leave on the table by changing teams? I'm not a fan of or an expert on the NBA, but I'm pretty sure he left a big chunk of change on the table. Their league is set up so that if a player's current team offers him a "max" contract, another team cannot get near that dollar amount in free agency. It's designed so that a star player never leaves the team that they are with unless they want out really bad.
  19. I'm not a big advocate of bringing Fielder back on a franchise-crippling deal, but if they did go a couple more years than they are comfortable with he would still have good trade value to an AL club looking for a DH if the Brewers need to unload him in 5 years.
  20. 1B is the easiest, and probably by a large margin. Statistically, you are safer putting a relief pitcher in the outfield for one batter since it's much less likely they will be involved in fielding a play. 1B would be involved in any play on the infield.
  21. One of the most exciting drives ever.
  22. That's what I was thinking. It's easy to vote for someone else to spend their money. You want to keep Prince, then keep coming out to the ballpark.
  23. I'm still trying to figure out where the third pitch to Tejada missed. Should have been 1-2-3.
  24. I think this photo was from the last time the Cubs won the WS. What's sad is that photo was probably taken 15-20 years after the Cubs had last won a World Series since Coolidge was President from 1923-29. Also... KUUUUUUUHHHHHHNNNNNNN!!! http://www.packersgab.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/John-Kuhn.jpg
  25. I like how you explain what MySpace was, while assuming the younger generation remembers AIM. What was the other instant messenger that was popular before that? I think it had a "Q" in the name, but now I forget. Taking this thread further off-topic, does anyone have to come up with a cover story for how you met your significant other? My wife and I have the true story, and then the story we tell everyone else since the true story involves a Mardi Gras party and me with a fistful of beads. We usually just tell people "college" and leave it at that. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
