  1. I don't know if this has been mentioned in any threads yet, but I'm going to go on record as saying this could open the door for Pujols to the Cubs, with Prince going to the Cards (gasp!). It would be little out of character for the Cards since they typically value defense, but that argument doesn't hold as much value with the recent Holliday/Berkman signings.
  2. Sweet, I just won a pool at work. I guessed 4/$36M with a $12M option (5/$48) and actual was 4/$38.5M with $11.5M option (5/$50M).
  3. I saw a guy in a balloon store standing next to a dancing gorilla being interviewed on TV here in GB and thought out loud to myself, "That must be BUC's place!" My wife didn't know what I was talking about, so I told her that he is this guy who also wastes an inordinate amount of time posting on message boards seeks fellowship among Packer and Brewer fanatics. Hopefully his wife/SO is more understanding than mine.
  4. I get it; but I think if I ever hear "Living on a Prayer" again I'll have to tear my ear drums out. That would be the perfect half time song, as it constantly reminds us that we're half way there. And now it's annoyingly stuck in my head.
  5. their hits are so incredibly played out that hearing them during the Halftime Show would be incredibly cliche. You HAVE watched a Super Bowl halftime show in the last ten years, haven't you? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  6. 2) If not Springsteen, what performing group is willingly going to WANT to perform in New Jersey, where it could, potentially be freezing cold, snowing/sleeting, and not really all that much fun. Not to mention the dangers of slipping and falling while "dancing" or moving around a wet, slick, frozen stage? Bon Jovi is from Jersey. I certainly wouldn't get pumped up for that, but that's probably in the vein of what they are looking for. Maybe they'll have Zach Braff and Snooki host the red carpet events, ensuring that I will have zero interest in anything other than the game.
  7. I at least give the NFL credit for trying to find a relevant, current band for the first time in a long time. Here's hoping for a Foo Fighters / Killers / Paramore / (your preferred band here) performance next year. I had a discussion with a coworker a few weeks back about how awesome a Foo Fighters halftime show would be, with the opportunity for a quick cover of a Nirvana song or two now that Novoselic has joined the band. No other halftime show would get me that pumped. At some point they will, but probably not until Dave Grohl is pushing 60.
  8. At his age I had an extensive collection of "Choose Your Own Adventure" books, and was really into simplistic biographies of past Presidents. Also, and I will deny it under oath, I was really into Star Trek: The Next Generation fan fiction.
  9. The offer to switch leagues was first made to Kansas City, but they turned it down. The Brewers then accepted. Personally, I prefer the NL style of baseball. Milwaukee was a "NL town" before when the Braves were here, so I know a lot of older former Milwaukee Braves fans that prefer the NL style. From wikipedia: [/sup] In hindsight, why didn't MLB just add both the Rays & Dbacks to the NL? Just not forward-thinking enough?
  10. You guys are crazy. "Outsourced" killed it as usual.
  11. The Brewers will announce a long-term contract extension with Marcum.
  12. New submission: Willow Smith's "I whip my hair." First, his offspring ruined "The Karate Kid", and now this.? When will someone stop Will Smith from destroying pop culture?
  13. Three of my friends from college and I are making the trip. The tickets went on sale this morning. I was in the "virtual waiting room" as soon as it opened up (about 20 minutes before they went on sale). I waited two hours for the honor to be able to purchase 4 standing room only seats for Friday night's game. On the plus side, our beer budget just go a whole lot bigger!
  14. I seem to remember that being the case with his Boston contract as well. The Dodger contract (2 years, $45MM) paid him $10MM in '09 and '10, with $8.3MM due annually for '11, '12, and '13. Basically, Manny is proving that he can live year to year on $10MM. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif I can't find the details from his monster contract he signed with the Red Sox, but I recall that some of that money was deferred way, way down the line as a sort of retirement insurance which I thought was actually pretty smart with the way that some of these guys squander their fortunes.
  15. I thought that "Bob's Burgers" would be terrible, but I am pleasantly surprised so far. But I am very easily amused.
  16. I hope he turns his life around, but it's a little disturbing how little attention the fact that he abandoned his NINE children is getting.
  17. She was doing a "Congress on Your Corner" event in Tucson when a deranged gunman approached and opened fire. The shooter is in custody. This is tragic regardless of your politics, and is a sad reminder that high profile public officials being gunned down is not something that only happens outside of the US.
  18. I think we had the exact same situation with Bill Hall last year, where we paid most of his salary directly to Boston after we traded him first to Seattle. The fact we were sending money to one of the "Haves" in baseball made my head hurt.
  19. Anybody else do a double-take when the saw that Michael Jordan is now bringing back the Hitler mustache? http://steelcloset.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/Michael-Jordan-Hitler-Stache.jpg
  20. Hey, it worked for Jeff Suppan.
  21. How about dinner? I know a place that serves great Viking food.
  22. Surely you can't be serious.
  23. I would say that I'm reasonably sure that this is illegal. Ask yourself, if this were legal wouldn't there be a whole industry of amateurs selling photos they took at games? Have you ever seen an 8x10 of a player for sale without the league or team logo placed in the corner? It's totally fine to take these for your own enjoyment, but I have to think that the league, teams, union and players themselves would have a huge issue with someone making a profit off of their likeness without consent to do so.
  24. This is right up there with the "bless you" thing for me. I know this was covered on Seinfeld..but why is this custom still in use today? What possible purpose does saying "bless you" after someone sneezes serve other than acknowledging that someone has sneezed. If you don't say "bless you" you come across as a non-caring jerk. There really is no logic to it. How can I possibly be helping you or making you feel better if I say "bless you" after you sneezed. Is sneezing really that horrible of an act that you need to somehow console the person that sneezes in some manner? I'm pretty sure the origin is that people believed that the heart stopped beating when you sneeze, or that sneezing opened up your body to evil spirits. Saying "God bless you" was to protect the person from either dying or becoming possessed. It's just carried on throughout time. But yeah, if you don't say it people kind of think you are a jerk.
