  1. We stayed across the street at the Candlewood Suites next to the Waffle House.
  2. A "goat" clause. If the home team loses a game, they can vote on who the "goat" was that cost them the game. Their game check is then either a) withheld by the team and the fans are given vouchers for an equivalent seat at a future game or b) donated to a charity.
  3. We were down there last week house hunting. About midway through the week, we decided against the relocation because nothing was breaking our way (nothing felt like home, lack of decent daycares, my wife's employment was suddenly up in the air if we relocated, etc). We came back on Friday night. Apparently someone was trying to send us a message to leave town. Latest death toll is 116 people with another 1,000 missing. The twister(s) ripped right through the area our hotel was. It's just devastating. They are using a college football field as a makeshift morgue. It's scary to read about places that in ruins just 72 hours after walking through. The Home Depot is leveled. One thing that amazed me is that very, very few homes in that area have basements. The reason I was given was because of the soil. Most places had little crawl spaces in their garages. That scared the hell out of us also (and rightfully so, apparently). I've heard from a few friends down there of people who huddled in their bathrooms, and the "lucky" ones emerged to find that the bathroom was all that remained of their homes. I guess we were lucky to make the decision we did, and not be in a situation where we had an accepted offer on a home that may not even be standing today (let alone the insurance questions of who actually owns the property).
  4. What's 5,000 times better than "Candle in the Wind?"
  5. Yes...at least I'm 99.9 pct certain it is. Gotta pass through the teams in your league first, then the other league. Did this change back to what it was a few years ago? When the Brewers claimed Turnbow from the Angels, I remember an article stating that the Tigers put in a claim for him also, but the waiver order was the ranking of teams in all of baseball, so that's why the Brewers (NL) claimed Turnbow ahead of Detroit (AL) when he was released from an AL club. The article pointed out that either this waiver order was different from the year before, or maybe it was noting it was the last year that this was the case. I'm not sure, other than the waiver order at one time flip flopped between total MLB and by League.
  6. Nope, I did mean hoosiers. I'm not too worried about it since I'll be almost as far away from St. Louis as Milwaukee is. So I'm somewhat confused by your "It's not St. Louis" comment, when the definition you supplied indicates that's where the hoosiers reside. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I know what you mean, but you can find white trash meth addicts anywhere you go. Does anyone use Verizon for cell service? How is the cost/quality?
  7. Cons: It's not Kansas City, Columbia, or St. Louis, which means the majority of your neighbors will probably be hoosiers and meth addicts I'm assuming you mean Sooners, and that seems to be the case. It's only 30 minutes from Arkansas, Kansas, and Oklahoma and there seems to be a ton of KU and OU fans there. I've eaten a couple of times at a BBQ place in Carthage called "Boomer Sooners" that is decorated in OU gear. We're definitely trying to find a decent subdivision in Joplin/Webb City area. Carthage is an older town that definitely has some of those less desirable elements in certain areas.
  8. I like to roll with a 15 year, as opposed to the conventional 30. My wife and I are also fortunate to have a pretty good credit score (785) so that helped out as well. The 15 year loan shaves quite a bit of interest off if you can afford the extra monthly payments. My former boss refinanced last fall to a 10 year and got a 3.2% I believe.
  9. I've accepted a promotion that will definitely help my career, but unfortunately takes me and my family away from where we currently live (Green Bay). I'm an accountant for a cheese company headquartered here, but wanted to gain cost accounting experience at a plant, which takes me to to Southwest Missouri (specifically Carthage, near Joplin and about 60 miles west of Springfield): http://www.bestplaces.net/images/city/carthage_mo.gif There are a few things I'm hoping the greater brewerfan family can help out with for suggestions. We have a 6 month old son, so we don't yet have to deal with schools and it's probable that this move may only be for 2-3 years before coming back: Cellphones - I've been with Cellcom since college (10 years ago), but since I will be traveling for work between WI and MO frequently and that Cellcom is a regional carrier, I think I would rather go with a national carrier. Does anyone have suggestions on what is best (AT&T, Verizon) and what they typically pay for two lines with a national calling plan, and maybe a data package?Internet/Cable - probably a shot in the dark since I doubt anyone here currently lives in this area.Dish/DirecTV - I know this has been rehashed several times over the years, but I'm wondering what would be best for watching the Packers and Brewers. I'm typically frugal and currently don't have cable/satellite, but not being able to watch the Packers would be crazy so I'll have to pony up.Housing - Anything about houses in that area of the country to look out for? We were already warned about the prevalence of termites in the area. On the plus side, my company will buy the house we currently live in, pay for the movers, pay for a house hunting excursion, pay the closing costs on our new home and other perks to make the move as painless as possible. Property taxes are about 1/3 of what we pay here, and the amount of house you can get for your dollar down there is unreal compared to WI (cost of living in general is pretty affordable compared to WI). Financing is taken care of as well as we were able to secure a 3.75% fixed rate. Any stories (good or bad) that people have heard about this area?
  10. Something I just noticed, but the post before that from Tuesday was a huge hint that something was coming: Big win for us last night!! Truly a sign of our character and resilience to continue to battle and find a way to win a really tough game against a great team. Look for an exciting Facebook Post from me on Thursday...
  11. If they want to break up the lefties, by my calculations he would be slated to start on May 6th, and then make his home debut on May 11th. That would be sweet, since a group of us at work already have tickets for that game for our annual trip to Miller Park.
  12. Please tell me that is a joke about Lucroy hitting #2. A catcher does not hit #2 - too much else on his mind. Well I can't argue with sound logic this this.
  13. Looks like the game has been canceled. At least that's what the Brewers are reporting on Facebook.
  14. I think you're trying to say that he has scorpion blood. How potent is that in relation to Tiger Blood? http://www.losangelesfail.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/charlie-sheen-tiger-blood-winning-300x252.jpg
  15. Is Mitre for sure going to be the fill in for Greinke? I hadn't heard anything official, but if the team decides to go with Estrada, I'm assuming they would swap him out with Kintzler for the April 6th start.
  16. Nirvana (Unplugged album) - Where did you sleep last night? (Leadbelly cover)
  17. The new BK stacker commercials have me wondering how many people are actually dumb enough to buy the double or triple stacker (from a financial perspective, not a health perspective). $1 - Buns, 1 patty, 1 slice of cheese, 1 layer of bacon$2 - Buns, 2 patties, 1 slice of cheese, 1 layer of bacon (you're paying $1 more for just another patty).$3 - Buns, 3 patties, 2 slices of cheese, 1 layer of bacon (another $1 for one more patty and one more slice of cheese). BK is making the most margin on the "double" stacker, by far the least on the single stacker. If you were a customer with a big appetite, why not just get 3 of the $1 burgers? Or do most people just not spend as much time as I do thinking about these things?
  18. Tickets came in the mail yesterday. 3 buddies and I got the Airtran deal a few months ago for a direct flight early Thursday morning, returning on Sunday for $210 each. I think we are staying at the Bayside (next to the JFK presidential library/museum, I believe). It's close to public transportation (takes about 45-50 minutes to get to Fenway) so we should be able to get around to wherever we would like to go. The 4 of us enjoy history and beer a great deal, so there will be plenty to see and drink that weekend.
  19. http://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/26135457460b9c19eb05292ef6bc5fa798a0c60.jpg
  20. Argument was between Silva and A. Ramirez. My guess is Silva probably told ARam who he wishes were still playing 3B for the Cubs after watching McGehee.
  21. I wish the song by Omen was a little heavier, since I love the lyrics "Bow down to the Axeman!" They could still do it, blasting something like "The Axeman Cometh!" on the new video board. Maybe change the intro a little?
  22. I don't think Albert and Tony will be amused. Jonny Gomes predicted stats vs. Cards in 2011: 0-0, 24 PA's, 24 HBP's.
  23. So I'm in the market for a play mat for my 3 month old son, one that has low-hanging objects that he reach for while he lays on his back. So imagine my enjoyment (and then disgust) when we got the Toys 'R Us mailer this week, and featured on the front page that states: Well, what the heck can you use it on?
  24. I don't have cable, but would like to watch the Brewers so I thought this would be an option since we're living in Green Bay. Unfortunately, I'm still part of their "blackout" area which irks me since it's not exactly a short little drive to get to the ballpark from here.
