  1. Another Lincecum look-alike: http://saramorris.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/joseph-gordon-levitt1.jpg
  2. That's just not true. NBC said to Jay, "Hey, your 9pm show stinks and our affiliates are upset. We have no idea what to do with your incredibly burdensome contract. In order to keep you, we will kick Conan to the curb and hand you back the Tonight Show. What do you say?" Well, Leno said yes. He didn't have to. He could have been a stand-up guy and pass the torch, but greedily took it back instead. NBC is also at fault because they were afraid to lose an established late night host in Leno and have to buy out his contract, so they cooked the idea up. But it was Leno that gave them the green light to oust Conan.
  3. I think(hope) it's posturing. Has a team ever come out and ever verbally declared that they were looking to be sellers? Not that I can think of.
  4. Surprised this hasn't been posted yet, but The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien has been nominated for 4 Emmys, including Outstanding Variety, Music, or Comedy Series. Not bad for 7 months of work. Meanwhile, Leno received none. Very interesting to note that O'Brien apparently wasn't even going to submit the show for nomination until NBC entered Leno's Tonight Show into consideration. Of course, the big giant cherry on top of all of this is that fact that the 62nd Emmy Awards show will be broadcast on NBC. If his staff can somehow come away with at least one win, well, that's an acceptance speech I don't want to miss. I'm hoping it will be reminiscent of Norm MacDonald hosting SNL after being fired from the show less than two years before:
  5. Yeah, I'll have to set up a wi-fi since the main point is the portability of a laptop at home and being able to take it on their big "Snowbird" adventures. I purchased the Asus last summer, which originally had Vista but had a free Windows 7 upgrade which I took advantage of about 6 months ago. I've never had those "what the heck is this error?" moments running Windows 7 that I've had with other Windows systems. Using Firefox for my browser and AVG security has helped also. I'm leaning towards the "buy cheap & abuse" mantra, hopefully I can find something in as Asus. I'm not sure about the Ipad since I think a keyboard would be a necessity for them. I'm guessing you could get a pretty sweet laptop for the cost of an Ipad anyways. Thanks for all of the responses.
  6. So my parents are both in their sixties and have never owned a computer (other than the Macintosh Performa we had while in middle school). They are looking to purchase a laptop as a means to keep in touch while they are traveling to CA and AZ this winter. Whatever computer they get needs to be pretty user friendly and really only needs to do the basics. What recommendations does the BF nation have for a basic, user-friendly laptop? I should mention that Macs are out of the question since I'm completely unfamiliar with them and I know the first person they will contact with questions will be me. I have an Asus that I purchased last summer that I love, but am curious if others have guided their parents or other novice users towards a specific laptop.
  7. Gomez, Parra and Gamel for a couple of months of Lee when we're 8 games back? That would be beyond stupid.
  8. I can't believe that Klingon hasn't been mentioned yet.
  9. This is the third time that Branyan has been traded by the Cleveland Indians. Is that some kind of record?
  10. How many homeruns would Griffey have hit if he weren't injury plagued? How great of a player would Bonds still have been without cheating? Would the Packers have won SuperBowl XXXII if Holmgren hadn't taken the ball completely out of Dorsey Levens' hands?
  11. I say we wait another year. That way we can get them to throw in Bryce Harper as well.
  12. There is a terrible radio commercial for a Fox Valley jewelry company (no, not the annoying Richard Kessler ads). It starts out with, "Have you heard of the Canardly diamond? It's a diamond so small you can 'ardly see it!" Ha ha ha ha! At least now I know what Jay Leno's writers were busy with during the strike.
  13. Willing your team to win by channeling your energy towards the TV? I've been doing this for years without compensation, and I have four collegiate degrees. Sounds like a case for Gloria Allred. Of course, I haven't been that successful with my efforts.
  14. If it's good enough for the JSonline blog to quote as a source, it's good enough for me! In all seriousness, it looks like actual newspapers are reporting that Nebraska is a done deal.
  15. Per Chip Brown: Six schools being invited by Pac-10 - TX, A&M, Tech, OU, Ok State and Colo - expected to accept invitations, begin play in Pac-16 in 2012. I agree with Peavey that moving to a format with four 16 team super-conferences gets us the playoff system that (most) everyone wants to see. If that's how the chips fall and the Pac-10 does become the "Pac-16", I could see the Big Ten moving quickly to try to add Mizzou and Notre Dame, and possibly two others (Syracuse and Rutgers?) to get to 16.
  16. I think if it begins to look like there will be four 16 team super-conferences, Notre Dame will have to jump at being included in the Big 10. The reasoning is summed up here. It looks like they'll add Nebraska for sure to get to 12. Then either stay at that number or go all in to get to 16 if the Big 12 and Big East crumble.
  17. Coleman, Linkletter, and Hopper. Then McClanahan, Wooden, and whoever the next remotely famous person that passes away makes the second trilogy. Unless a slightly more famous person passes away shortly thereafter, which renders the previous person again not famous enough. That's usually how it seems to work for those that subscribe to such a theory (see Linkletter, Art).
  18. Disappointed in Manny Parra? Why? Because he's left-handed? You guys are are bunch of anti-left-ites.Next you'll say "they" should have their own gloves and maybe their own scissors, too. We wouldn't want to share with the "lefties."
  19. No, Oswalt was looking towards the first base side and Hohn (behind the plate) told him to keep his mouth shut. Oswalt told him he wasn't talking to him, so Hohn tossed him for apparently talking back to him. How dare he.
  20. So... they were dead the whole time?
  21. Gotcha. I had forgotten about Sarah since it's been about 3 or 4 years since they've really mentioned her. I think that watching the recap before the finale will be required for me to refresh my memory.
  22. - Juliet making her coffee shop appearance. (Don't forget that Julie Bowen's schedule for 'Modern Family' may have prevented her availability, before jumping to the Jack-Juliet conclusion) I don't think that was a problem since Julie Bowen didn't play Juliet on Lost. The actress that played Juliet is now a main character on V. Unless I'm missing some other connection here.
  23. Since Zaun was signed as a FA, he can't be traded for almost another month (mid-June), correct? I think I read that Pierzynski has a short time left (days or a couple of weeks) before some no-trade clause kicks in hence the interest.
  24. Any day now I will expect to hear reports of persons being kidnapped and tied to railroad tracks.
  25. New blog post indicates that whatever it is that is bothering Davis is severe enough that he had to go to the emergency room last night.
