  1. I would probably not skydive with a bad back. Backs are not like fingers, you pretty much only have that one.
  2. After Sunday, I felt that a majority of people on this board would benefit from an extra day off, Do you really mean this? -- I am quite confident you do not have the wherewithal to understand what benefits the majority of the people on this site, or who needs a "day off". Here are some of the things I need a day off from. 1.) Publishing Deadlines. 2.) Payroll taxes. 3.) UPS not being able to locate Texas, when it is clearly marked on the map. 4.) Climbing Health Premiums. You will understand I hope that when I read mods complaining about the "stresses" involved with BFnet, I find it a little silly. I certainly can imagine that there are some headaches, but I think the perspective is quite skewed -- BFnet is downtime for me -- If I couldn't talk to some of my buddies about baseball, I would have mellonballed my eyes from their sockets a long time ago. and it would give the mods a much needed break. Wow -- A break from what? "much-needed"? c'mon dude. If you want to say "I need a break" or "BFnet mods need" a break -- then in the future please present that as the primary reason for your actions. It doesn't sit well to cloak your need for a break with some sort of act of benevolence. As for the argument that we should "respect the wishes" of the posters who didn't want an IGT tonight, explain to me why they couldn't just stay away from the board for one night? Yep. Actually, that's not funny, that's disturbing. It was pretty disappointing people couldn't follow the rules for an evening. Dude. -- I hear you -- But, it was a 13th inning walk off win -- people are going to be amped. The problem with the IGT thread has been that it's troll heaven lately. Trolls suck, but I'd rather have someone tell me that Brian has people spraying the site for Trolls/silverfish, than tell me I need a night off. We all agree that a good job is done here by the mods, people were just naturally inclined to want to discuss a big game. Yep -- and I think a lot of the mods are exemplary posters, and great examples/models for posting. Some of the mods rarely post anything of substance -- at least in regard to the Brewers, and I think it is important to remember that this site is content-driven, not mod-driven.
  3. Sharks can't fly.
  4. Lets give Elmer a start and let him get shelled. Have him give Anthony Reyes a call first.
  5. You think the other men in the pen are going to welcome him with open arms after he takes five or six days off in a period where his arm could be the difference? Yeah -- I think all those guys will understand and be behind Linebrink 100%. That said, I am not a "fanny-pack" dad -- When my girls were little I would carry them around like potatoes and footballs. I am not a warm fuzzies sort of person, I am all about manly men, and dudes nutting up and all that sort of stuff. However -- 2 of the 3 births my wife had, we encountered complications that were not anticipated, the last my wife became toxic, and it got pretty hairy. I couldn't imagine being anywhere else, and I certainly sympathize with Linebrink, for wanting to be there for a lot of reasons. From a 100% practical standpoint -- I can't imagine Linebrink would pitch worth a crap, worrying about his wife and kid. The man that doesn't tend to his family first and foremost, is probably lacking in character.
  6. Dessens is up probably because of the 13 inning slugfest last night. I don't see him hanging with the club much longer than the end of the week. My guess is that Wise "caught" (probably like in the classic movie "The Hidden") whatever Dessens had, -- and through much adversity Dessens has clawed his way back to the healthy.
  7. I thought most teams pass almost every player they would contemplate trading through revocable waivers. Once they clear, they can be dealt. Exactly -- but guys like Griffey Jr. will probably go through, and not get claimed, because teams won't want to take on their contracts -- I think we agree on this.
  8. Well there could be trades that were submitted that need Bud's stamp that could still be announced today -- plus there will still be trades, but they players will have to be exposed to waivers -- which won't affect players with really fat contracts.
  9. Disappointing. Weeks -- Sure, I will club that dead horse. Suppan -- What grinds me about him -- after his 4-2 start he has only had I think one or 2 starts where he as allowed 2 runs or less -- he isn't supposed to be an ace -- but he isn't even giving the Brewers a chance to win often. Hall -- I suspected he may struggle in CF, but it seems to have effected his hitting. Jenks -- I thought he could put up better #s only facing RHP. Estrada -- I never thought his D was as putrid as it is. Hardy -- I have been disappointed he hasn't been able to maintain a decent OBP after the AS break, I sort of figured the SLG would slow down, but the OBP shouldn't drop. Yost -- The Yostings continue. Surprises Braun -- wow. Vargas -- He has been brilliant in doing what he should do, give the Brewers a chance to win. Hart -- I like what I have seen so far. Parra, Yo -- So far better than I had hoped, jury still out.
  10. http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/thumb/4/46/250px-Slim-pickens_riding-the-bomb.jpg Major Ned Kong
  11. I find it amazing how someone like Biggio, and shortly Glavine, can be over shadowed by A-rod... In all fairness -- Arod has an OPS almost 400 pts better than Biggio. Arod has the best OPS in all of baseball (full-time starters), and is a lock for AL MVP at this point in the season. Glavine and Biggio, are collecting (in the grand scheme of the season) insignificant stats, to make the people that obsess about 3000 and 300 happy. Arod is still defining his legacy -- Glavine and Biggio are hoping not to tarnish theirs. Also, no dogs were hurt in achieving this milestone.
  12. So is Scott on some sort of bereavement list -- or are we just short handed until he comes back?
  13. Has Hardy's defensive metrics stayed consistent over 2007 -- or have they slipped as the year progressed?
  14. It doesn't make any sense to me to swap Weeks/Gwynn. I think soon Gross will be brought up once we decide to not have 13 pitchers. Gross unlike Gwynn has demonstrated an ability to get on base better. I think if we were to send Weeks down, I would hope we would replace Weeks with someone that wouldn't ensure that Graffy was our starting 2B -- If that person is not at Nashville, then I am not sure what the point of sending Weeks down is.
  15. Well Lamp I'm glad you kept Mench on -- he must be your son?
  16. Elvis and Salty are top prospects, right? That's not too far from the Brewers trading Braun and Hart last year. Maybe -- The Braves have a good young catcher in McCann though.
  17. I refuse to buy that there's just some bad mojo surrounding the team on the road, nor do I think Ned's got some weird road-managing scheme vs. home-managing scheme. Yeah -- I tend to agree as well. -- I suspect though the overall youth of the team may magnify things like "road mojo" in the form of bad preparation, or road routines.
  18. Perhaps some improvement could be needed in Ned's usage of Counsell. It seems like he could be brought in via the double switch more often, serving as both a pinch hitter and defensive replacement. Yeah -- I was thinking that yesterday -- it seems like Hardy should have gotten to at least one of those balls... none of them were routine for sure. I think Counsell has exhibited more range later in the season. Hardy might be hitting a wall, having not played so long into a season in his career.
  19. Departments are allowed to set performance standards. This is spot on. Quota may not be the best word to use, but in a round about way, that's effectively what they are. I have had a lot of family members spend their life in law enforcement, including a county sheriff. I can tell you small municipalities are pretty shady sometimes with regard to traffic violations. There are sometimes politics involved, and revenue generated from traffic stops can justify a municipality's existence.
  20. To me, it's pretty simple. The team's built to play in Miller Park. Fly ball hitters and a home run friendly park... That's just the way it's going to be. The team's going to go gangbusters on home, and do less well on the road. I'm not sure this is the case. The Brewers have the most HRs on the road in the NL -- hit more FBs on the road, and have a pretty similar GB/FB ratio on the road and at home. To me, the key is amassing enough quality pitching Word that I don't think there's any manager on the planet that could make this current club a better road team... (crickets) If you mean by "the planet" -- Venus, then I would agree.
  21. I think it's at least plausible. I definitely do -- Thinking back to my days as a kid -- My old man was a RHP -- all my coaches were RHP as well -- I can only think of a couple of kids that I faced that were LHP. Every kid that grows up, is going to see plentiful RHP, but probably not LHP. I would think it would be an advantage to have a dad that could throw 1000s of pitches as a LHP over the course of a childhood.
  22. I'm not worried so much about the lack of experience,i'm more worried about the lack of productive experienced players on the team. Yeah I agree -- we are getting beat by guys like Weathers, Jr., Rolen, Eckstein, Hatteberg... meanwhile our vets., are not getting a lot done.
  23. BTW even though we tend to be on the opposite side of the fence I really do enjoy our exchanges. Your ability to stick to your guns and reasoned thoughts without condescension make our exchanges fun. Likewise -- I appreciate and reciprocate the sentiment. On the other hand... No. He wouldn't. He will never give Ned Yost credit. No matter what he does. Knock it off. This sucks. It's pretty plain and obvious that the World Series appearance in 1982, coupled with the 10 post season appearances with the Braves has given Ned Yost plenty of experience to manage a team WITH THE TALENT to compete Again, being a coach is different than a manager. We've been over this a thousand times. it's a waste of everyone's time to go back and show everyone the talent level of those teams in 2003 and 2004. Ned's sucktitude is independent of the talent of those teams. They were .500 in 2005 and dipped below due to massive injuries (Hardy, Weeks, Sheet, Ohka, etc) last year. There were certainly other factors. There should be no doubt in anyone's mind that Ned Yost is proven. And very fit to manage this team to multiple division titles and world series championships. Why? Because you say so? To disagree with this sediment is just being nervous and worrying to worry. Again, this sucks please knock it off. I disagree with you, I may be right I may be wrong -- but I am not nervous or worrysome.
  24. I'm taking the day off. I'll do you one better Bruce -- I am going to take the family to the Simpsons movie. -- and then I am going to go to Wal-mart and buy lots of pie (not cake). It's up to you guys to pull the Crew through -- I will know how things go by the Vent Thread post# and location http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  25. Some of his bullpen management makes me want to hit someone though. This is my biggest beef as well. I think it was crappy to make Wise pitch to Pujols -- Wise was lucky to not have gotten taken out of the park.
