  1. Here's the full text of TH's blog post that was linked above: A very good source on the Ryan Braun side of the drug testing controversy assures me that Braun did not test positive for a performance-enhancing drug, as reported by ESPN's "Outside the Lines." ESPN reported that Braun tested positive for a PED that gave him an abnormally high testosterone level, which proved to be synthetic and therefore not produced by the body. But my source -- and again, this is from Braun's end and not MLB -- familiar with the test's findings says the "prohibited substance" was not a performance-enhancing drug or steroid of any kind. And the source says there has "never" been a result like this in the history of the MLB testing program. The source said MLB "knows that Ryan is telling the truth" and that source firmly believes the postive test will be overturned. Pretty amazing stuff, huh? The source said more detail couldn't be provided at this time because of the ongoing legal process. But suffice it to say that this is getting more interesting by the minute. If the prohibited substance Braun tested positive for was a stimulant instead of a steroid, he wouldn't be facing a 50-game suspension. The first offense for stimulants results in a 25-game suspension.
  2. Maybe it's just the fan goggles, but this still doesn't add up to me. If there's one guy you could imagine saying "I don't need steroids, I'm awesome already," it's Braun. To me his extreme self confidence belies the idea that he'd think steroids are worth the risk (compared with A-Rod, who has perpetual self-esteem/needing to prove himself issues). That said, I think Beast Light is exactly right: MLB is in a tough spot here, and that IS one reason people should be legitimately concerned and upset about this leak. It makes it very difficult for Braun to win an appeal, even if he's in the right. I hope MLB would do the right thing, but either way this is going to be a PR nightmare or someone, and neither MLB nor Braun should have had to address this until the announcement came from MLB.
  3. Yes, clearly ESPN is finally making good on some standing personal vendetta against the poor small market Brewers.
  4. The last 2 episodes of Community were outstanding.
  5. That's not what deferment is about at all. For good or bad, it's a simple decision to postpone paying more up front. It's not like they're paying him the same and then adding extra on the back end just because they like the guy.
  6. Guys, you don't hit talented rookies early in the lineup, they might freak out. It's going to be Hart-Morgan-Braun, same as always.

  8. I think you're overstating your case Ennder. I'm hoping that this doesn't matter too much one way or the other (unless it does providentially save us in hindsight from a bad contract to a declining veteran), because it's just one year. If Mark really wants to, he can say heck with it and expand the payroll for this year to account for this. I'm more in Greg's court though, Gamel and Green need a shot.

  10. Since there are other threads for both the Reyes signing and 2012 shortstop, I'm going to shut this one down.
  11. Didn't Texas already state that they aren't interested?
  12. That's what I was thinking. Even if the handedness doesn't quite line up, still might not be a bad way to do it (really I just don't want to think about either Gamel or Green sitting in AAA another year).
  13. Poor Tim Raines. I agree with endaround's list. Williams can go in the Hall of Very Good with all the other borderline candidates.
  14. Tweeted the show creator: The Easter egg that took three years to hide. Our show is TOTALLY ACCESSIBLE.
  15. I don't mind it from the sense that it gives added incentive to win your division.
  16. Wait, your excuse is that you're not home at the time it's actually on TV? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  17. Count me in the minority too, I like the actual bird.
  18. Agreed on both Midnight and Bridesmaids. The latter was just more awkward and uncomfortable than funny, and what humor was there was just typical juvenile humor. A couple others: Main Street: I wouldn't recommend it except for Colin Firth.. but not because he's good. It takes place in Durham, and there's a pretty terrible mishmash of accents overall, but his supposedly Texan accent is unbelievable. You really have to see it to appreciate how bad it is. It's like Bertie from King's Speech took a couple lessons and is trying to sound like a Texan. Win Win: It's hard to go wrong with Giamatti and Amy Ryan. Basically they end up bringing a troubled (but clearly good hearted) teen into their home, and the film explores that relationship and that of the boy and his mother. Really liked it, especially Ryan's character.

  21. But everytime you think the numbers are ludicrous, someone goes out and gives Jayson Werth a contract. I wouldn't be surprised if at least one of those estimates isn't that far off.
  22. This is exactly how I feel. In fact, short of a World Series appearance, what I most want out of next season is to know what we have in Gamel and Green; anything else is secondary. We can't keep stringing kids along in AAA when they have nothing left to prove, we have to keep bringing in cheap young (good) players. And if they're not going to play here, then we need to trade them and get return while return is there to get.
  23. I'll throw out the obligatory Ryan Radtke suggestion. I know a few of us like him back when he did spring games a couple years ago. http://staatalent.com/Headlines/09/09/30radtke.php
