  1. I highly doubt Prince will sit when he's played every game so far. I don't see the need to sit guys when they have two days off already. You don't want them coming out flat on Saturday. At least give the main starters a couple of ABs before taking them out.
  2. There we go. Now that looks like the old Weeks. Carry on.
  3. I think he deserves a little bit of a break. He messed up his ankle and had six weeks off with no rehab stint. It would help if they could ease him in lower in the batting order, but since the rest of the hitters after Fielder suck, he kind of has to be there. I agree that he should be playing. I was just saying that he hasn't looked like the same player he was before. Obviously some of that is understandable but we're gonna need him to get going for the playoffs.
  4. He's hitting over .280. Yes the power isn't there but he's getting on base and hitting for a decent average. I said "looked" and I mentioned the walks. He hasn't really been driving the ball like we're used to. And that average was helped by Sunday's 3-4 (which I didn't see because of football so I was actually unaware of that).
  5. Besides some walks, Weeks has looked like crap since he's come back.
  6. As has been mentioned, times won't be set until all seedings are set so probably not until Wednesday night at the earliest. If STL and ATL have a playoff, probably not until Thursday night. And I don't think MLB cares about football games when it comes to scheduling. They care about setting the big market games in the best time slots.
  7. Obviously the game is on the line here so I get bringing in Braun but now Green was basically burned for nothing, which means we will see McGehee.
  8. It doesn't help that they play in a garbage stadium. I also think it's not in a very good location (in terms of neighborhood and not centrally located).
  9. He's still out and the ump was right there. Blown call.
  10. Same reason Braun isn't playing in a game that matters: the manager is dumb.
  11. What does being passive have to do with driving in runs? It has everything to do with driving in runs. Ryan Braun doesn't want to take a walk in those situations. He wants to be the guy come up with the big hit if all possible. He's not up there taking multiple strikes like Weeks is. Weeks has a leadoff hitter's mentality. So because Weeks draws walks, he can't drive in runs? I don't buy it. Many people on this board (and people in baseball) have been saying for years that Weeks is probably best suited in a run-producing role like hitting 5th. He's just hit leadoff because there really weren't other options.
  12. What does being passive have to do with driving in runs?
  13. I think its been pretty well established Morgan bunts those on his own, not ordered from the benchEstablished from what? Players besides Morgan have bunted Hart over as soon as he gets on. It's basically Roenicke's MO to bunt guys over ASAP.
  14. Playing for one run in the 1st again. I don't get it. But Roenicke is definitely predictable. edit: See, good things can happen when you let good hitters swing away.
  15. In fairness his only alternatives to these two were Counsell and Wilson for most of the year. Hairston arrived to play CF for Gomez, then ended up taking over for Lopez at 2B while Rickie was on the DL. So he really wasn't available that much until Rickie came off the DL. Green has been playing on a semi regular basis, starting in 7 of Septembers 22 games, and seeing action in 10 others. Of course Green could have been called up much earlier in the season. Or Gamel. But they weren't, for whatever reason. Counsell or Wilson could have played more ss, but their play didn't exactly demand to be in the lineup ahead of Yuni. The reason being Roenicke didn't want him to be. I know people will claim Melvin is the GM and he makes the personnel moves but I have no doubt that Roenicke had a lot of influence. He's made countless statements (including his most recent one being discussed) that he has more trust in veterans who "have done it in the past" than rookies. He wouldn't have played Green even if he was up so Melvin probably decided it wasn't worth it for him to rot on the bench. And some might say that Green hasn't done much since his hot start but he's hit the ball hard for the most part and has had to deal with inconsistent playing time, as well as face CY Young caliber pitchers in Carpenter, Halladay, and a surprise this year in Worley.
  16. Sorry but they have a 50% chance at best of sweeping the Astros. This is because you assume that the Cardinals have no ability to play above their regular performances with the season on the line.Again with this magical clutch performance stuff? If a team or player has the ability to "play above their regular performance," then why don't they do it all the time?
  17. Saw it Friday. A lot more "talkie" than I expected, even for a Sorkin script. That being said, it was still pretty good. I liked that they showed a lot of actual in-game film, as opposed to reenactments. But when they did do a reenactment, it was shot really dark. It looked like they were playing a game with no lights on. I'm not really sure what the point of shooting it like that was. (SPOILERish If you don't know baseball history)There's also a few factual things that kinda bother me. DePodesta's name is changed (as well as physique/age) but they also show that this character came to the team after they lost to Yankees in 2001 when he actually came to the team in 99 (after which they took the ALDS to game 5 four years in a row). Also, almost no mention is made of Hudson, Mulder, and Zito (other than a few in-game shots) and they were more crucial to the team's success than their offense. Those teams of the early 00s showed just how important pitching is. And it's not like that 02 offense was filled with Yuni-esque players. They just had to deal with replacing a couple of all-stars. I'd actually argue that the 02 team had a better offense than last year's Giants since they still had Tejada and Chavez.

  19. I would think that's the case for the most part with just about every pro athlete. Obviously there is some scoreboard-watching and they know they only need 2 more wins but I would think their focus is on each game before them. That being said, I think it's time to retire the "one game at a time" cliche.
  20. I don't think this works. I'm pretty sure McGehee said a few days ago that he feels great at the plate and that he feels like he found his swing (or something to that effect). Roenicke has also said this at other points of the season. Obviously McGehee's "great feeling" hasn't resulted in much success.

  22. I don't think this is the case at all. Why didn't they play Kotsay more at first in the beginning then and sit Prince? Prince could've hit 50 HR again but he's probably worn out from playing everyday. I just don't buy into this. I could understand sitting older players early in the season so they don't break down towards the end but not guys like Morgan/Gomez/Hart. I also don't think you can draw the conclusion that your so-called strategy worked simply because Kotsay has done decent as a PH and Morgan/Hart are still playing well. Morgan/Hart are playing well because they are pretty good players. I don't think lack of playing time at the beginning of the year has anything to do with it. Also, people weren't so upset that a 4th/5th OF was getting playing time. They were upset that that player was Kotsay and he was starting over Morgan/Gomez. Finally, I don't think Roenicke's use of Kotsay was because he thought Morgan/Gomez/Hart would break down if they played all the time. I think it was because he genuinely thought Kotsay was good and a better option than Morgan, until Morgan started out lights out and forced his hand.
