  1. Rendon to the Nationals. What are they going to do with Zimmerman? Or will they move Rendon to 2nd?
  2. If Starling signs, the Royals are going to add to what should already be a very good team.
  3. Maybe Rendon will fall to 12th now.
  4. Looks like he is just as shocked. Definitely didn't think that would happen.
  5. Wow, didn't see that happening (Hultzen 2nd).
  6. I kinda wish the Brewers were off today so I could just focus on the draft.
  7. I think you mean Dave Kerwin.
  8. I don't know who I hate more now, Loe for giving it up or Roenicke for not realizing Loe was going to give it up.
  9. I agree with everything Adam and TLB said. The players seem to like him which I think is very important. But he's still in that "old baseball" mindset. That's why I would've liked to have seen a younger manager come in. I was hoping for Joey Cora and I actually would've liked to see how Sveum would've done. I don't think the few weeks he got in 08 were enough to judge. The things I really can't stand about Roenicke are his love for veterans and bullpen management. I don't think it's nitpicking to say that giving Kotsay a projected 300 AB will be a problem. Obviously injuries were part of the reason he played so much so he may not hit that mark. But I still think he played too much even with the injuries. Also, there is no reason to have Nieves. Last night would have been a good time to pinch hit with Rivera, where a home run could've tied the game. I also don't think the bullpen mismanagement (Green, over-use of Loe, not knowing when to pull a starter) is nitpicking either.
  10. Everyone was saying Nieves is an above-average defensive catcher. Personally, I haven't seen anything out of him to indicate that. He's basically just been another catcher to me, nothing special. This is just another one of those things that makes me hate Roenicke. I'm sure it's his decision because he said he wanted a veteran defensive catcher and because Melvin has had Rivera on the team for a few years already. I have no doubt that if there were a different manager, Rivera/Kottaras would be the backup and we never would have had 3 catchers on the roster at all.
  11. I think it would be useless to send Gomez to AAA. Not all guys are going to be studs on offense. Some guys aren't even going to be average. Gomez plays elite defense in an elite defensive position and that is where his value is. He has the physical tools to be a stud on offense but unfortunately doesn't seen to have the mental ones and I don't see that changing. However, he's still a valuable player because of his defense. Kotsay, Nieves/Rivera, Counsell, Wilson should all be sent packing before Gomez IMO.
  12. Just read this article about it. I don't see any way to change it. It's part of the game. If the catcher doesn't want to risk injury, then don't block the plate.
  13. Boggs outrighted to Nashville to make room for Wilson. Nieves better be the next to go for Morgan. He is terrible offensively and average defensively. There is no reason to keep him. Edit: Article originally said Boggs outrighted to make room for Morgan, with Wilson move coming tomorrow.
  14. We actually had a raccoon get into our basement last month. There was @!%%%! on the side of the house under the deck that it got into. One of our dogs woke up and was scratching at the basement door and going crazy. My dad checked it out and saw traces of something in the ceiling but no animal so he filled the hole. Later in the day, he came home to find the ceiling tiles collapsed and a raccoon in the basement. We had to create a makeshift trap out of a cardboard box and were able to force him into it. My dad wanted to shoot it but we were able to trap it without doing any harm.
  15. Roenicke must really hate Boggs if he didn't let him pinch hit for Greinke when he knew he wasn't going to pitch the 8th anyway.
  16. Greinke looks like he's getting squeezed on Gameday.
  17. And Kotsay has a .357 average against Marquis. So you need to play him. Someone forgot to tell Ron that Kotsay has only had 5 AB's against Marquis in the last 3 years and only 14 total AB'sExactly Roenicke's reasoning. Does he not understand the concept of sample size? Roenicke said Mark Kotsay was starting in center and Craig Counsell at short today because they've had success against Nats right-hander Jason Marquis. Kotsay is a .354 hitter (5-14) against him and Counsell a .324 hitter (11 for 34).
  18. With Kotsay starting again today (and the fact that he consistently started over Morgan in April), I think Roenicke considers Kotsay the 4th outfielder. I really don't understand this. Kotsay went 0-4 yesterday and his defense is terrible. Some people on here said a few games in CF for Kotsay won't hurt us but this is his 4th game starting there in the last week. He's gone 4 for 13 with no walks (3 hits in one game) so he's not exactly lighting the world on fire here. He's also missed a few balls that Gomez would have gotten, for sure one of which led to a run. I hate to beat a dead horse but at what point do people think this is going to become a problem? I hope Morgan replaces Kotsay in these situations when he comes back but I honestly think Roenicke won't do it.
  19. Obviously there was some luck there but he's also been hitting well for the past few weeks, including the bomb early tonight. The point is, he put the ball in play and drove in 2 runs.
  20. Wow, unreal! Too bad for Lucroy Roenicke will probably want to keep him there because "he is doing so well in that spot."
  21. Yes, which resulted in Matty V's greatest home run call. Incorrect, his greatest call would be when he sang Pearl Jam's Jeremy after a Burnitz bomb. For sure. I wish there was video somewhere of this.
  22. That would be my plan, at least until Nyjer comes back (assuming he starts the majority of games).
  23. I like him. I realize his offense sucks but his defense is great. He never should have been in the situation he was in tonight, hitting 3rd. When he hits 7th or 8th, he's fine. Anything he does on offense is a bonus because his defense is so good.
