  1. Pettis is way too big right now to waste on a free card.
  2. Ok, I should have said there is evidence out there but I just don't feel like looking it up. I don't know how someone couldn't tell that Loe was being overused. Just about everyone on this board (except the Roenicke apologists) have mentioned that point this year. Roenicke even came out and said Loe was unavailable after pitching 2 days in a row, then used him anyway and saw him get lit up. Doesn't that kind of point to overuse?
  3. The issue isn't that Roenicke is pitching some random pitcher so many innings. The issue is that it's Loe and he generally hasn't been as effective when used multiple days in a row (I don't have any specific stats, just from what I remember). Some pitchers are able to throw a lot of innings and still be effective but that doesn't seem to be the case with Loe.
  4. Hating the Cubs has nothing to do with whether they are good or bad. I would hate them either way. Hating a team that is good is almost too easy. The Cubs hate mainly comes from their (mostly fan's) sense of entitlement. They think they deserve to win every year and are actually in denial of how bad they are. Every year is "their year" according to fans yet they never win anything. I've hated the Cubs before I ever went to a Cubs/Brewers game. I remember watching them on WGN growing up and couldn't stand them (though I did like Sandberg). It's not really a Chicago-hate thing either because I don't mind the White Sox (I actually liked them in the 90s) and I'm a Blackhawks fan. For me, the Cubs are my most hated franchise in all of sports.
  5. I'm just curious as to where everyone is from that doesn't hate the Cubs. I don't see how someone can grow up in Wisconsin and not hate the Cubs.
  6. I basically agree with everything here, although I think Kotsay may be a better PH than Boggs. However, I would probably rather have Boggs start over Kotsay. My big problem with Kotsay is his defense (or lack thereof) and the fact that he has been playing so often. He's fine for a 5th outfielder and pinch-hitter but shouldn't be playing as much as he has been. I don't see a reason to baby Hart like some do. At this point, he should be ready to go. I also don't think people are over-exaggerating how bad Kotsay is. Everyone basically accepts the fact that he can draw a walk and hit the occasional single or double but he has no power and no defense. A guy like that shouldn't be starting as much as he has.
  7. I'm hating Roenicke more and more as the days go by. Why do Hart and Gomez both need a day off today? I understand if you want to rest one of them but to rest both on the same day is just stupid. I know Gomez had a rough day at the plate but he still plays outstanding defense. If you are going to rest him, Hart should be in RF and Boggs in CF. If you want to rest Hart, then Gomez should be in CF and either Boggs or Kotsay in RF. Both Boggs and Kotsay playing is asinine. Roenicke will probably justify it by saying Boggs hits guys with initials JK during 3 pm start times extremely well and we all know his love for Kotsay.
  8. This doesn't really seem like what happened from my point of view. Weeks tried to spin around Cedeno at the last minute but they both moved the same way and collided. Cedeno obviously said something that Weeks didn't like, I assume he was the one who complained about the contact and then things went from there. This article seems completely backwards. Do I just have Brewer's glasses on? Nope, that's the way I saw it too. Yahoo or the AP is just stupid and must not have been watching the game.
  9. According to Yahoo, the benches clearing was Weeks' fault: MILWAUKEE (AP)—The benches briefly cleared in the third inning of Friday night’s game between Milwaukee and Pittsburgh after Rickie Weeks was tagged hard by Pirates shortstop Ronny Cedeno. Weeks was caught in a run down and as he slowed down, Cedeno tagged him and appeared to inadvertently push him away with his left arm. Weeks didn’t appreciate the force used and replays showed Weeks asking Cedeno, “What did you say?” before being restrained by third base umpire Brian O’Nora and second base umpire Chris Conroy. Both benches and bullpens emptied, but Weeks was pulled away from the situation quickly and returned to the dugout. Cedeno didn’t move toward the rest of the Brewers and no one was ejected.
  10. Does Estrada become the new setup man? I'd use a combo of Estrada, Hawkins, and Loe in the 7th and 8th. Don't set guys in stone for when they come in, that way we can keep guys fresh.
  11. Why do you say that? I actually think day games are more fun. I like tailgating around noon and having the game end before it gets dark out.
  12. Why is it a stupid time? I love Saturday day games and I wish we had more. Too bad the weather will be crappy.
  13. Will this finally make Roenicke realize that Gomez needs to be at the bottom of the order. It's now time for Lucroy or Hart to take over the 2 spot (preferably Lucroy).
  14. When there is no one covering second base we decide to not be aggressive anymore? Doesn't make sense to me.
  15. They need to just have someone sitting in the booth watching the TV. When there is a call that is controversial, that person can just call down and indicate the correct call. No need to waste time having the umpires on the field watch the replay. This person wouldn't need to be paid the same as the other umpires. Or even just have the official scorer do it, since they are supposed to be neutral (though not always the case; the CC non no-hitter comes to mind). Or I would do it for free.
  16. To me it seems people like are focusing way too much on Kotsay's offense and not enough on his defense. Like endaround said, he was a DH last year. The guy has no business playing CF. I can live with a few starts a month in RF from Kotsay but he should not be playing over Gomez (or Morgan or Boggs) in CF. Any walks that Kotsay draws (basically all he is good for nowadays) are negated by his terrible defense IMO. Gomez's speed/defense/some power are worth more than Kotsay's walks/terrible defense/no power. If we were talking about who should be playing offense only, then I could see how some might prefer Kotsay over Gomez. However, with an already below-average defense, there's no logical reason for Kotsay to start over Gomez, especially at one of the 2 most important defensive positions. This could all be moot once Morgan comes back but it seems like Roenicke loves Kotsay for some reason and is just looking for ways to get him in the lineup. That's part of why I think he's an idiot (though there are many more reasons).
  17. This is part of my disgust towards Roenicke. He's benching more talented players (Hart, Gomez at least defensively) to find starts for Kotsay. Kotsay is fine for a spot start (maybe once a week) but starting him half the games this month is a joke. I just don't see the fascination with Kotsay, he's terrible at everything except drawing a few walks.
  18. Considering most people consider Trout the #1 prospect in all of baseball behind Harper (some may even have Trout above him), I doubt the Angels will move him. However, if they were willing to let go of Trout in a Prince trade, I'm all for it.
  19. Let's not act like Kotsay went 5-5 with the cycle yesterday. He was 0-2 with 3 walks. Against Stauffer, the RHP with breaking stuff, he flew out, struck out, and walked. Then he walked against a lefty, an at-bat where he could've easily struck out (I remember a couple of strikes being close). I had already turned the game off at this point so I didn't see his last walk. The point is, he didn't exactly tear the cover off the ball. In fact, he only put the ball in play once out of five at-bats. I think everyone knows that Kotsay can draw a walk or two but as far as hitting for any kind of power, he's toast. I also think people weren't upset with the fact that he was playing. It was the fact that he was playing CF when he's basically a 1B and the fact that Roenicke basically benches someone so Kotsay can start 3-4 times a week.
  20. To be fair, it was improved starting pitching. The bullpen had question marks.
