  1. Not even 3 hours in and we are going to the 12th!
  2. Isn't Wise as good or better against lefties? Why Shouse? And Why was Hart playing on the warning track?
  3. It is inexcusable that Estrada was jogging on that double play. EDIT: Jenkins completely stuck his knee out. Get on any way you can!
  4. These are the kind of games that are very satisfying when you win and leaves a very bad taste in your mouth when you lose.
  5. Why the heck did the camera man have to scare the crap out of me by making that look like a 500 ft moonshot!?
  6. That's a very poor analogy, as the best hitters aren't going to get a hit 50% of the time. Make it rolling a 1 or 2 on a 6 sided die if it makes you feel better but it's such a small sample, it doesn't even matter. Put it this way Russ: Mench is 5 for 7 against Harang with, say, runners at the corners in a 1-1 game in the 9th, while Estrada is 1 for 7 in his career vs. Harang. You're telling me you wouldn't prefer for Mench to hit there? Both players have logged hundreds of major league AB. I'd look at their career stats and if the samples are large enough, their splits against RH pitchers. Until you show something to actually back that up, it's simply your opinion, and not fact. I didn't make up the laws of statistics. I've explained this stuff a million times on these boards. If you don't understand it by now, I'm either a very poor teacher (I'm not ruling that out) or you just don't care. Either way, I'd be wasting my time. Buy a used stats 101 text book or google "sample size".
  7. Turnbow made Dunn look very silly. I especially like seeing that off speed pitch for a strike looking. He looks great right now (knock on wood).
  8. I look forward to Hall coming back and manning the 5 hole.
  9. How many fly balls have been hit to the warning track in this game?
  10. Cappy has looked great his last two starts. Win or lose today, that's certainly encouraging. It's proof that he's had success against said pitcher in the past, for whatever reason. You have proof that it's meaningless? Statistics 101 and it's not even close. It's similar to flipping heads 5 out of 7 times and thinking that's evidence that the coin might not flip 50/50. You could double the sample and it wouldn't be useful for helping to project future performance. You are far better off just looking at Mench's split against RH pitchers.
  11. Bill just said that it's a "statistical anomaly" to find a batter that both strikes out a lot and walks a lot. Does he even watch the game? I'd say that batter lines vs. a particular pitcher might actually be something worth noting. It's possible that Mench sees the ball well out of his hand, or has noticed a tip or something. I didn't say it's physically impossible for a batter to have a tendency to do well against certain pitchers. My point was that the result of 7 AB certainly isn't poof of it. It's not proof of anything. It would be worth noting only for it's historical value, not it's predictive value.
  12. I feel obliged to point out that a 7 AB sample is pretty much worthless for predicting future success. That said, when the alternative is Gwynn, I'm not going to cry over Mench getting the start.
  13. So there is a 0% chance of getting swept 0-7, or is the real number <1%? Less than .5%. There's a chance a team could go 162-0, after all.
  14. I'm guessing that many are expecting a better road trip than the numbers suggest. Average expected record is 4.4 - 3.6: http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a345/rluzinski/seriesprob072307_1-1.jpg
  15. From what I've read a month or so ago, there's no realistic chance. A reasonable guess is that he'll never play again. He's still fighting with vertigo.
  16. If Weeks is going to lead off, I'd really like Hart to hit second and put Hardy's 330 OBP someplace else (5th or 6th). That's exactly what I've been advocating for some time. Hardy has some nice pop for a SS but he hasn't really developed any OBP skills yet.
  17. considering the Giants were the worst team in the NL prior to our home series with them, this stat gives me no confidence The Giants have the worst record but they are far from the worst team. They've only been outscored by 9 runs all year Heck, the Giants might be better than 4 of the 6 NL Cental teams and they are definitely better than Washington as well. And yes, I realize that in today's sports page, Tom said that "some scouts" think the Giants are the worst team in the NL. He must have talked to some pretty crappy scouts, IMO.
  18. Looks like we were all optimistic to some degree. One more win....
  19. If Weeks' wrist is still hurting his power, he can still be an asset to the team. He's not King every other AB anymore, so just getting some balls in play and racking up some walks makes him a whole lot better than before.
  20. Gabe's measured comments about getting a chance to play everyday from someone and his confidence that he'd do well April-October lead me to believe he's on the trade wire with management. His comments seemed pretty generic to me. He said about what any player in his position would say. I don't see them trading Gwynn. Gwynn doesn't have a position to start at in Milwaukee for the foreseeable future. If another team saw him as a starter and offered Melvin something decent in a trade, I can't see him saying no.
  21. Ok so two years in a row he had a good second half In baseball, it only takes something happening two years in a row to make it a fact. Thems the rules.
  22. For example, a nice 9th inning comeback would be nice and would give this team confidence that they can do it. Right now, if the Brewers are losing after 6 innings, the game is basically over. It has more to do with Brewer fans needing more confidence, which is really what this thread is all about. From everything the players and management says, they are very confident in this team. I really doubt that the players assume they are going to lose a game that they are trailing late in. Heck, I've heard fans complain that the Brewers don't panic during losing streaks. "How can they remain calm!? Don't they realize that their lead is slipping away!?" The Cubs are definitely better in this category than the Crew. They (Cubs) BELIEVE they can comeback anytime and are clutch. We need that mentality. And when the Cubs were something like 0-9 in 1 run games to the start the season, all I heard was that the Cubs simply didn't know how to win the close games. How ironic.
  23. If Gwynn is being showcased, someone should let him know.
  24. When they stopped me, I didn't question why because: A. I thought it was pretty obvious why. B. It made a lot of sense. Earlier in the game, I was surprised to see it wasn't a madhouse in Right Center. It was good thinking on the Brewers' part to restrict access.
  25. The first thing that jumped out at me is the Brewers are not playing poorly, but rather they are playing very well. It doesn't matter. If the Cubs are playing better, that means the Brewers aren't playing well. Aren't you paying attention? When did the Brewer fan base decide that anything less than a 10 game lead in the Central unacceptable?
