  1. It sure sounds like it to me: LINK They are just always trying to spend themselves out of mistakes and it never seems to get them anywhere. They don't have a bad team this year but if competent management, you'd think they'd be a lot better, wouldn't you?
  2. I don't like his attitude this year. He's always been like that, so let's at least not pretend his big payday has anything to do with it.
  3. Bush threw 30 pitches on his normal "throwing day", no? If Yost decided to ditch his plan to have Bush start Sunday, you'd think he would have just had Bush go out for the 12th. Instead, he had Spurling warming up. I think Bush is still pitching Sunday. Was hoping Cappy would get the start Sunday. Bush hanging his curveballs in Wrigley scares me. You think he's a bad match to pitch at Wrigley? I guess I don't see it. He has a 3.05 ERA in 3 starts there, so it can't be because of that.
  4. Yo, Sheets and Bush. The Brewers will not be swept.
  5. Haven't seen this anywhere else. Bush gets the start Sunday: LINK Exactly how I wanted it all to work out.
  6. f he only pitches 113 this year - does that limit his chances of being a full time starter next year? Or should he be past that point already since he has shown he can pitch 180 in a year? I would think he'd be fine for 200 innings next year if needed. With CoCo leaving next year (almost a certainty) does anyone else think Carlos could be a great closer for us potentially next year. I think that option is being discussed in about 5 other threads right now. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. Seriously though, who is going to trade anything for Vargas? He isn't anything more than mediocre, and his salary is only going to increase from 2.5 million as he enters his last years of arbitration. As others have said, a mediocre starting pitcher is quite valuable. Now, he's barely mediocre and has only two years left before free agency but he should have some value in a trade.
  8. After that great 24-10 start, the Brewers have gone 22-22 and worse yet, the Brewer fans are happy about it! If we accept mediocrity, then that's all we are going to get! Nothing short of a series sweep of the pathetic Cubs is going to convince me this team deserves to even be in the playoffs! Put up or shut up, Brewers.
  9. I'd be worried that Hart might be missing the most important criteria; name recognition.
  10. You, sir, are a long-suffering Brewers fan - new to this whole "winning" thing. I know this because I feel pretty much the same way, despite the points above. I'd say he's just being realistic. Losing 2 of 3 to a good team on a road shouldn't be a big deal. Winning 2 of 3 against a good team is a good deal.
  11. I think you might have the wrong Brewer: LINK If you lower the PA threshold to 50 PA, 3 of the top 6 in OPS are Brewers! I bet Soriano wins it, though. Might be decided during this weekend series, however. Sheets looks to be doing well himself: LINK
  12. Braun has basically hacked at everything and destroyed pitchers anyway. If anything it's a compliment, since I think he'll settle down as he matures a bit.
  13. Nice game, Miller! WOW! Bush with 2 scoreless innings and gets the win. Damn you, Yost! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  14. Hall almost screwed that up posing for his "walk off". Don't do that!
  15. Powell: "The majority of time that there's a leadoff walk, the team scores." Sorry Jim, close but only 44% of the time (at least from 99-02): LINK It doesn't matter how the runner got there either (walk vs. single).
  16. I thought it was more like three. It was 2 over 2.2 innings. How does that work again? If you get the double play but a runner crosses home plate before it's turned, it still counts?
  17. I don't think Yost weighs Bush's two appearances as damning evidence. He's an arm that's available. I can't see him being worse than Spurling or Latin Cappy and he can go several innings if needed.
  18. With Bush going here, I assume Yost has already decided to skip him the next start.
  19. I'm sure if Yost had thrown Latin Cappy or Spurling in there, you guys would praising Yost. How many relief appearances did Bush have last year, just that one? What a huge trend!
  20. Yost is actually using his best pitchers in a close game when they are available! And they are available because Yost didn't use them in blowouts. Progress.
  21. I'm not trying to tell anyone how to feel about their team, good or bad. I'm just pointing out that they may lose some objectively during those times, when they are trying to assess the team's talent. The tendency is to focus on the most immediate results and ignore all that occurred before.
  22. At the time they were playing very bad baseball but I never took into account the rest of the division losing right along with us. That has nothing to do with predicting the club to be under .500, though. I think you and Peavy both caught a major case of the negativities. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I only pointed it out above to warn against over reacting in either direction. All teams have ebbs and flows over 162 games. The Brewers just decided to have really pronounced ones so far!
  23. He has such an ugly approach at the plate but I sure can't argue with the results so far. Still, 114 AB is a pretty small sample, so I'm temperating my enthusiasm. I doubt he'll finish the year with an OPS over 1.000. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  24. I really don't see the Brewers falling below 10 games over .500 the rest of the year We are only two weeks removed from multiple people predicting the Brewers would be below .500 and in second place in the NL before the all star break. You are making the same mistake but in the opposite direction. The season is a roller coaster.
