  1. There are plenty of reasons, which is exactly why he is still in the lineup. Weeks has had prolonged success in the past, Bianchi is just a guy and Gennett does not project to be ready. Pretty darn simple. There is no Brewer fan who is not frustrated by Weeks' production this year some really do appreciate why he is still getting the majority of starts at 2B.
  2. Couldn't agree more. More brilliant moves from Ron Yost. That is completely bass ackwards. What has Bianchi done in his illustrious career to prove he DOES deserve to start?
  3. The so frustrating thing is if say we score 6 runs like we did tonight, the pitching staff will give up 7 or more. Then the next game the staff will hold one of those teams to say only 3 runs, but we only score 1 or 2. Almost without fail if the pitching staff actually has a good game vs the Red or especially St. Louis, then the offense craps the bed. Score a decent amount of runs though, of course our pitchers implode that game. I'm not trying to imply that the Brewers deserve to be above .500, but man, when things are going really bad for a baseball team, it's so maddening how often things can happen as i mentioned above. I don't disagree that it has felt that way recently but the Brewers have been outscored by 30 runs on the year. They have largely earned their poor record.
  4. We keep hearing about the Brewers leading the NL in steals but they also easily lead in caught stealing as well. RR just has them running wild, with predictable results.
  5. Not sure why you feel the need to taunt me. Whatever floats your boat I guess... I am not taunting you. I am pointing out that despite you being a prolific poster, you don't seem to cover very many topics. If you don't agree, so be it.
  6. I think you have 4 posts that you just repeat over and over again. That is false.. Fair enough. I was being generous.

  8. Are you suggesting that he should fire Melvin? If so, that is ironic for a couple of reasons, considering you mentioned the 2011 season in the same post. I think he's saying that completely gutting the farm system and putting all your eggs in one basket (the 2011 season) was a pretty poor and unsustainable long-term strategy. At the very least, Mark A was complicit; at worst he was/is pushing Melvin towards that kind of short term gains philosophy. And while their start to the 2013 may suggest otherwise, they are an average team with average talent and an average team payroll.

  10. Before the game started, Vegas had given the Brewers about a 40% chance of winning.
  11. I am going to predict that every batter for the rest of the season makes an out and I will be right about 68% of the time! Predicting Rickie being out is a higher percentage. I've been a huge fan of his, but this is getting ridiculous You guys are just spewing the typical "analysis" I can hear from any casual fan at a corner bar. Enjoy agreeing with each other.
  12. I know it was a rhetorical question but the answer is no, that would not be the sane decision. If you think we should expect Weeks to bat .100 in any situation, you are off by a very large amount.

  14. Neither do I. I have to assume it is RR assuming that all Axford needs is a little success to get him back on track. I would rather he get back on track when the game wasn't on the line.
  15. I good throw gets the runner at home. Damn. Also lets the runner go to third.
  16. Who said that? The point is, even with his excellent SLG, the value of Yuni's overall production is limited by his greatest skill, making outs. Using a rough rule of thumb, these two lines are equivalent: Yuni, 2013: .248/.273/.480/.753 YuniOBP: .248/.320/.380/.700 Perhaps in terms of situation performance, he has done fine (I honestly don't know) but his current line is not good.
  17. Can't we just pin the 2012 Weeks thread and close this one? It's the same arguments just being repeated after all (e.g. "he is done, anyone will be better"). If I cared enough, I would look back to see if it's even the same people repeating themselves. Expecting Weeks to repeat his best years again is unrealistic. Expecting Weeks to continue hitting as bad as he has this year is downright silly.
  18. There's something wrong with batting someone with a career OBP of .290 cleanup?
  19. It still is a concern this year because every plate appearance over 600 this year is one less at bat he needs next year to get 2015 to vest. Unless Weeks gets hurt Melvin will have to make the tough decision in releasing him sometime in 2014. And I maintain that it really isn't a concern at this point. The odds of Weeks having the option vested if he doesn't return to form are very low and it won't be because Melvin sits him the last month of the 2014. Getting 1200 PA over 2 years or even 600 PA over 1 is hard to do in any situation. Any real injury will make it impossible. Even putting aside that possibility, if Weeks continues to bat out of the 7th hole, he'll have to play about 300 games over the 2012 and 2013 seasons to have his option vest. If Weeks is still under performing in 14 months, it will be pretty easy to justify a backup a couple of starts a week at 2B.
  20. That is a peculiar way to present the facts. I am surprised you didn't point out that his best BA was in 2006. Weeks' best season in terms of overall batting production (basically, PA, OBP and SLG) was easily 2010. He had his second best season in 2011. If there is any pattern of decline, it had to have started after 2011. That said, Weeks is 30 years old and has had a good share of injuries, so we would anticipate that his best years are behind him. I'd expect something like .240/.340/.430 from him going forward and that's a line we have no reason to believe Gennett would beat that by enough of a margin to call him up. I doubt he would get even close to meeting that in fact. I appreciate the concern that about 2015 but we are a long way away from having to worry about that.
  21. Sounds good to me. Replay should be around to make sure no obviously terrible calls are made. If it's close, move on. To me, where it gets dicey is what exactly should be reviewable. I can't see reviewing every bang-bang play at the bases, for instance. And I would like ball and strike determination to be done automatically, with the results being relayed through the home plate ump. He would still have the authority to intervene if needed.
  22. Betancourt is still that same guy who can't play defense in the middle infield anywhere near acceptably and can't get on base enough to be a good option at the corners. I am glad that he's been decent stopgap while filling in but he has little value going forward. Even with him playing way over his head offensively, his OBP is still only .293! His SLG is currently .523 but everyone has to know that he's not going to continue hitting a HR every 15 PA. His career average is 1 every 53 PA! He's a .260/.290/.450 guy going forward. That's roughly equal to a .260/.325/.380 hitter. As a backup 2B or 3B, maybe he's worth keeping around. That's about it, in my opinion.
