  1. I'd expect the Brewers to play around .500 going forward. Not very exciting but no where close to being as bad as some are suggesting. Because we indicates you feel you are a member of the team or organization which you are not. No big deal to me, but that is why. The whole concept of rooting for a team is silly. Why do have an emotional investment in the success of a baseball team? The closest connection most of us have to the Brewers is that we were born and/or live near where they play. Yet here we are.
  2. Can't we just dig up the thread from last year, when some suggested he was done? It would save us all a bunch of time.
  3. Hey, a win! Such a horrible series but the end result is 1-2, so owell. No doubt Luc should be moved to 4, but I think Weeks is actually a really nice number 2 hitter if he could just perform to his career numbers. The problem is, he might not be that kind of hitter anymore. He's been about a 700 ops guy since his injury, and it's not like we're just talking about 200 plate appearances anymore. .700 OPS guy since when exactly?
  4. Putting on the winning runner intentionally. Yuck. The guy after him in the lineup today is starting to heat up and has, historically, been a good hitter with RISP. A radical idea might be to put him in the 4 spot. I agree 100%. Lucroy is a better hitter than Weeks overall. I'm surprised Lucroy hasn't been placed 4th in the lineup. Weeks should be around 6 or 7. I'd be fine flipping them in the lineup but I'm not sure Lucroy is the better hitter. You are free to disagree with these, but updated ZiPS projections: Weeks: .251 / .341 / .437 Lucroy: .270 / .325 / .413 It comes down to how much you weight their 2012 seasons when coming up with an estimate.
  5. I can't even get angry with RR for calling bunts in that in that situation... I just expect that silliness from him and apparently Melvin and all the top brass find it acceptable, so whatever. The Brewers got what they deserved there.
  6. The facts show that that cold streaks aren't predictive on average. Again, managers aren't just intentionally walking Braun on every PA because they don't expect the batters following him in the lineup to continue to struggle. They are forced to assume guys like Weeks and Lucroy are going to hit close to their career averages because they have no evidence to the contrary. I'm sure that managers will chase hunches from time to time but that's what it is, a hunch. If you can consistently identify when a cold streak is "real" and not just noise, you should be a major league manager because that would be quite the skill.
  7. Molina screwed up twice on that play (not letting it go foul, going to third). I don't think it would have been a hit.
  8. Well no is talking about the long run, just the short run where everyone who bats after Braun sucks As I'm sure you've heard me explain a million times before, long term expectations are what you should expect going forward for all players. All this hot and cold streak being predictive in the short term is utter nonsense. Teams know that Weeks and Lucroy are decent hitters despite whatever they've done in the first 10+ games this season. Hey look, tie game!
  9. Because that would result in teams giving up more runs to the Brewers in the long run and everyone knows that.
  10. More like one of the 3 or 4 worst teams in baseball. I would be happy to wager something that the Brewers won't finish with one of the 4 worst records but I am almost certain you are just venting.
  11. All professional leagues tend to avoid putting two teams from the same city in the same division.
  12. I look at it as performance vs. the result of that performance. I care if Rogers does or does not have good velocity, movement or location in a small amount of innings against mixed talent. I hardly care at all about the results of that performance because we KNOW that it is going to do a poor job of estimating performance. The more the innings, the more results = performance.
  13. I was not happy to see Axford get trotted out there for the 8th. I am not a huge fan of set roles anyway, so let Axford have a couple of easy innings already. That said, it's never as simple as "learning from your mistakes" in baseball because a mistake is defined by the fans as anything that had a poor outcome. Axford is getting absolutely destroyed right now but there is nothing so obviously wrong with his stuff right that suggests we should expect him to have a 24 ERA. Anyone proclaim (without evidence) that his fastball is straight as an arrow but the pitchFX data suggests it has the same movement (and velocity) as it did when he was dominating. Am I suggesting that I KNOW there is nothing wrong? Of course not. I am only saying is that there is no obvious evidence. I have no idea why his first 3-1/3 innings this year has had disasterous results and I am pretty certain no one else does either. So we are stuck with the same problem with that we have with any reliever. They face so few batters each season that it's hard to sort through the data and figure out what the signal is and what is the noise. As a recent Fangraphs article on Axford stated, he was probably not as good as 2010 and 2011 seasons suggested and he's probably not as bad as his 2012 season suggests. There are no obvious lessons to learn here.
  14. Segura and Peralta may turn out to be the real deal.
  15. Results of the first 8 games aside, I still think getting a non-embarrassing 1B for the next 8 weeks is the lowest hanging fruit right now. He's getting paid around what an average free agent starting pitcher does these days.
  16. Well, both teams are going to the same place, so it's all kind of besides the point anyway. I know, I expressed an emotion. Sorry Rluz. I was doing the same thing. I should have added a at the end to make that clear. In fact, I upped it 10x by suggesting the Brewers' 2013 season is already irrelevant because they have no real chance of competing this year. This sucks.
  17. Well, both teams are going to the same place, so it's all kind of besides the point anyway.
  18. I wouldn't mind having a first baseman on the team right now. And a third basemen.
  19. I know it's not as emotionally satisfying but if the Brewers' offense goes 9 and scores 3, they certainly get some credit.
  20. When a defender doesn't even make an attempt to field a ball, 99.999% of the time it's because he has no chance to.
  21. This is getting funnier and funnier. Castros makes a nice diving stop. His shovel to the 2B to try and get the force went about 4 inches, though.
