  1. I will agree that NFL instant replay takes much too long (although to call football boring as a result is quite a hard sale when we are baseball fans). That said, the worst thing that can happen in a sport is that the wrong team is awarded a win when they didn't earn it. I believe it is inevitable that every sport will find the right balance of replay usage and implementation given some time. I believe the NFL will speed up their implementation of its use (and they have with respect to the recently mentioned replay of all scoring plays). I also believe MLB will expand its usage to whatever degree makes sense. I also wish out announcers were educated enough to keep their viewers informed of all the rules. I think it is now clear that whatever the level of replay that is eventually instituted in baseball, this play would not have needed to be reviewed.
  2. Yup it mattered so much. But youre right the entire review would have only paused the game for 20-30 seconds It is inevitable that plays like that are eventually reviewed.
  3. How can a call be missed that badly? Probabaly because they didn't have the guts to end the game on a judgment call like that? WOOOOOOO!!!!!
  4. Too bad we don't have a technology that would allow us to get calls like this right very easily. And all these professional sports leagues have to suffer as a result. O wait. It's only baseball that insists it's still 1920/
  5. OK, let's win this in the 9th and keep our crawlllll back to .500 going.
  6. Weeks' best split is in the 3 hole. With Braun struggling, perhaps they should just switch spots? Two problems solved!
  7. Sounds like a good way to make big decisions. Considering Weeks is not clutch at all, you bet it is. I have to admit, though, that was the best AB in a long time for Weeks, even though he got out. He FINALLY was able to catch up with mid-90's heat instead of singing late by 2 feet. I don't think Weeks is a gamer either.
  8. And when the Brewers traded for Segura and said he would start SS, I just assumed it was Melvin once again trying to play someone at a position they wouldn't be able to play well at. Opps!
  9. Segura's defense has been nothing but spectacular. Why would anyone have ever had a plan to waste him at 2B?
  10. Did Weeks actually SAY that he isn't comfortable in the 4th spot or is bill just talking out of his butt?
  11. Any team that has their 1B batting 8th has some serious problems. Unfortunately, we shouldn't expect Aramis coming back to really to improve the situation at 1B: ZiPS ROS: Betencourt: .262/.289/.434 Gonzalez: .241/.278/.399 If anything, this highlights how insane it is to have Gonzalez ever at 1B.
  12. Some follow up, the league SB% is 73%, so does the batter raise his average by 270 points when a runner is going? I think not. They are probably not even going to try to steal if being held in that situation, are they?
  13. The splits might show what he's done in the past but they do NOT suggest that he should be expected to continue better or worse in certain slots in the lineup. Hell, his best split is batting 3rd. Move over Braun! http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=weeksri01&year=Career&t=b#lineu
  14. Big Panda gives athletes that aren't sumo wrestlers a bad name.
  15. That was a really quick 4 runs. Brewers double their run output compared to the previous, what, 37 innings?
  16. 100% agreed. Drives me crazy. Here the NFL has onfield 1st down lines but lets not know where the baseball was in the strikezone in baseball.
  17. I know I will regret asking you this but who do you think is such an obviously better option than Weeks to bat 4th?
  18. I can't see how anyone can presume to know if this suggests his performance is regularly hampered by alcohol ingestion. How the hell would any of us know? If he was scheduled to start today, sure but he doesn't pitch until Thursday. I don't believe that is true.
  19. I am struggling to understand why we should accept the theory that an ankle injury would so adversely affect his hitting. It just seems like a convenient way to disregard the bulk of his 2011 season, when he hit well. It would be more logical to blame his last wrist injury but that wouldn't be as convenient either, as he hit well between that injury and the ankle injury. All these injuries and just simply Weeks aging is going to lower our expectations for him. His best days are most likely behind him. That said, I believe people are overreacting to his slow start, EXACTLY like they did last year. You are welcome to stick with your "about .700 OPS" projection for him going forward but I think the .250/.340/.440 line I shared earlier is much more reasonable.
  20. I agree that if you take out the period of time that he's done well this year, he's done very bad. Of course, it's April 14th, so... I am not expecting to see 26 year old Weeks anymore but who was the Weeks that was playing the last 100 games of last year? I am fine with whomever that was. ZiPS has him at about .250/.340/.440 for the rest of the year. That seems reasonable to me.
  21. Selling high presumes that one team knows that their player isn't as good as his recent production suggests and another team doesn't. I don't think the opportunity to do that presents itself nearly as often as fans think.
