  1. Weaver started 27 games last year and went seven innings eight times. In 2006 he started 36 games and pitched seven innings six times. I don't know if that is consistent or not, but what I did notice when I looked it up is how inconsistent Weaver actually was. The guy would pitch a great game and then not get out of the second inning. I'd just rather give someone new a chance. How about Dana Eveland? Crap. I vote the old guy...Difelice?
  2. The call was not ok. Bases loaded squeeze, are you kidding me?! Pitcher struggling, infield already in, force play at home, and a guy that rarely strikes out at the plate. The ball Kendall actually hit would've bounced over the drawn in infield, not that I believe that necessarily would've happened. It was a stupid call, and my guess is Kendall is too smart to have ever thought it might be called....so he missed it.
  3. I expected the vents to be about a squeeze play with the bases loaded...that is just stupid baseball. If you take a look at Gagne's inning it isn't really that bad. Bloop single to center....groundball into center.....intentional walk....good pitch to Ludwick that he bloops to left. Nothing hit really hard, good velocity. I think the fans at Miller that boo every single mistake of our players are drunken losers. And I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that they are drunk.
  4. You would have to add LaPorta, Gwynn, and Parra. They may still turn you down.
  5. I don't see Branyan getting anywhere near Milwaukee.
  6. Shake things up yes, but by taking out our best three OBP guys....seems like a strange messsage. Didn't Billy Hall used to hit really well when he used to play pepper with the RF wall? What happened to that?
  7. Bring up Gamel and play at 3B; in a related move install plexiglass in front of box seats along first base line.
  8. Sorry Mr. Briggs but in the end(not May 5th) I believe it will be the starting and relief pitching that will be our downfall, not the hitting. The Twins are in 1st, but it is May 5th; it is my opinion they will be nowhere near first in two months.....we'll see.....but I completely disagree that our relief pitching is sufficient.
  9. This is a Yost thread, and while the decision to use Gwynn over Dillon is obviously relevant, how long must it go on?? Are we seriously going to roast or toast Yost for a Gwynn vs. Dillon PH appearance. Egad.
  10. I'm not ready to throw Gagne under the bus yet either, but I still think we need another arm in the pen. I know Nathan just resigned, but does he have a no trade clause? If not, I don't think you can assume he is not going anywhere. If you offered LaPorta, that might perk up their ears a bit.
  11. I don't know the answer the questions I am about to pose, but would rather like to hear the opinions of others. Is it possible that these players feel too comfortable playing for Yost? Is it possible for a manager to really inspire big league players? Is so, is he not doing this? Is it possible that the younger players are leveling off? Because of Yost? I'm not in the fire Yost club. I think his decisions thus far have been fine. We all know that we are not hitting, but the question is why? Are we just not that good? Slow start? Too many questions for one post, but I think we need a few more weeks before we have answers.
  12. Tim Redding and Joe Nathan would be nice parts to add.
  13. I would trade(in July) LaPorta to the Twins along with something(Escobar, Gamel) for Joe Nathan, Wilson Ramos, and Glenn Perkins.
  14. I also fear that if Kendall doesn't get some more rest that he will be laboring around .220 by the end of July. I think Rivera is perfectly capable of handling the day after night games and I believe both the Brewers and Kendall will be better off in August and September. If you were going to start him today why not take him out last night? I also agree that it should not matter if Kendall wants to play every day. Of course he does, so does Hart, Hardy, Hall....Chad Moeller....
  15. So where does that put LaPorta or Iribarren if you have Brantley or Ford in the OF? This isn't slow pitch softball. Good problem to have for the future. Very possible LaPorta could be used to bring in some pitching.
  16. Section 207 & 208 on RF side or 230 & 231 pm LF side. Great view of the game; 207 is my absolute favorite section.
  17. Do we have a team hitting philosophy? Are they being told to take certain pitches early in the count? I don't really agree with such things. Is everyone encouraged to do the same thing in terms of their approach? Maybe a minor thing like think up the middle is effective but other than that thinking can get you into trouble. I think the job of the hitting coach should be to help individuals to see when they are not swinging the way they normally do; make minor corrections when things get out of hand. The other job of the hitting coach should be to make sure each hitter has a clear understanding of the pitchers we are facing and how they try to get you out. Now is Skaalen doing those things? I have a feeling he does. These guys are for the most part, very young, and selection is clearly an issue. Good pitches go by, bad pitches we swing. I still spend a lot more time worrying about the pen mroe than anything else.
  18. There is no way we can get worse at C. Kendall will bring leadership, hard work, and integrity to our team. I know a lot of people don't put a lot of stock in that, but Estrada gave the impression that he was just going through the motions. Just an opinion, I know many do not like Kendall due to his terrible 2007. I think he will rebound somewhat if he isn't asked to catch as much as he did last year. Only Russell Martin caught more innings. I am so happy Estrada is gone I don't care what we got.
  19. First winning season since 1992. No way he gets fired, whether we think he should or whether he actually should, it isn't going to happen.
  20. And honestly, had we not scored in the 9th, it doesn't mean we wouldn't have scored in the 9th had the situation still been a one run game. A bit different strategy and mindset.
  21. Why would we walk Pujols with noone on in the 8th inning of a one run game? Unfortunately, Yost chose to try and beat Larussa, not the Cardinals. In the end, he did neither. What also gets lost a bit in all of this is the fact that it was planned that Turnbow would come in after the beaning. Turnbow is horrific with men on base. We then leave him in with the bases loaded...wha.....did you see the fans standing and screaming when Maddux left the mound without Turnbow? Yost and Larussa should both be suspended for putting the careers of Pujols and Fielder in jeopardy for their own petty squabbles.
  22. Both Larussa and Yost should be suspended by MLB. Pujols and Fielder are both MVP type players that the fans come to see play. The managers should not be using them as pawns in their faux bravado escapades. What would we think about this "unwritten baseball rule" if one of the two players involved would've been hit in the eye with a pitch? It disgusts me when managers believe they are more important than they are. Larussa is a tool, but unfortunately in this case he got the better of Yost. He was able to bait our manager into a game that ultimately could cost us a playoff spot. Bringing in Turnblow with a man on base is suicidal. Leaving him in with the bases loaded is absolute lunacy. Unfortunately, as Ants has already stated, we will have our Yost Infection for at least another year.
  23. I actually yelled at the TV for the first time in years today; Damian had no business swinging 3-1 at a borderline pitch at best. 1st and 3rd and we are bunting with 2 strikes. Scott Thorman, a guy with one zone he can hit in, and Coco hits it. This hurts.
  24. I don't blame Yost for this, but it is interesting that today he cites the numbers as to why he made the switch, but against Chicago when he kept Mench in instead of PH Jenkins he balked at the numbers and said he was just going with the flow of the game, and as Yost said then, "Mench was in the game". That is the equivalent of saying "hey, I was just watching the game like you guys". Tough loss, that is about it, not Ned's fault.
  25. Sorry but I completely disagree with you and am a big fan of Gross. The low average is due to a complete lack of any consistent playing time. His OBP in majors and minors when given an opportunity is around .385. I also believe he is a quality fielder. I believe he will be our LF next year.
