  1. Chris Smith is out of options. Do you think he will clear waivers to AAA? I have a hard time believing Narveson starts over Suppan. Actually, I have a hard time believing Narveson is in MLB while Villanueva is in AAA. But, I suppose that might be the case because of available options. I don't like Cain playing LF. He played poorly all of last year - but they might try him in AAA to keep him playing CF. I didn't realize N. Green was still in the system... I hate Nashville's offense.
  2. I am significantly concerned about Mat Gamel In Venezuela he has 10 strike outs in 22 at bats. In Nashville he struck out 89 times in 273 at bats In Milwaukee he struck out 54 times in 128 at bats. In 2008 he was striking out every 4.3 at bats. In 2009 he is striking out every 2.7 at bats.
  3. Counsell is essential to the Brewers. I don't trust McGehee, Escobar and Weeks to all play up to their potential and stay healthy.
  4. I hate that example as a "any one can get lucky" story. Anibal Sanchez was a really good prospect and pitcher. His career was derailed by injuries - it doesn't mean he was "lucky" to throw a no-hitter.
  5. I want him back if only for his
  6. I just can't trust Villanueva. He might be the streakiest relief pitcher I've ever watched. He can go 10 games without giving up a run - and then go the next 5 giving up 3 runs. I'm not surprised by Villanueva, Bush and Gerut - but considering some of the players not offered contracts (Atkins, Olsen, Condrey, Redding, Capps, Cust and MacDougal) I wouldn't have been been surprised if they had been granted their free agency.
  7. That is great news. Of course, the downside is that signing Counsell is the best news we've gotten this offseason.
  8. None of those are surprising. The real news is that Bush, Villanueva and Gerut all were tendered.
  9. Too bad his numbers weren't a little better. His persona would have been a perfect fit as a closer in Milwaukee.
  10. I've emailed Haudricourt in the past asking about the potential to add Jeffress to the 40-man roster to avoid the potential lifetime ban. Haudricourt said he would have to look into it. I wish he would have addressed it in the article. Seems weird that he enjoyed his time in Milwaukee at the rehab center. And then moved back to Brevard County, where, seemingly, he has gotten into trouble in the past... Title might have been poor taste - but Jeremy does mention "weed" in his quotes, so it kind of flows throughout the article.
  11. I'm 50/50 with this deal, which I guess is about right. I think I would have rather had Millwood for one year at $12 million.
  12. The relationship between the Milwaukee fans and Sheets was severely fractured during the 2008 season as well. If Sheets came to Milwaukee and walked off the mound hurt, the boos would rain down on him. I'm sure their are about 20 places he would rather pitch.
  13. Rankings look great. (I didn't realize Brad was dragging them down so much in the past!) I hope pogokat still chimes in with his insights within the Minor League Forum. He had some great knowledge. Any thoughts on where LaPorta would be in those rankings? #2 maybe? Would Inman even be a top 10? Top 20?
  14. Yeah, but it doesn't count against the salary cap! Actually, would it count for luxary tax purposes?
  15. Very exciting news. I had assumed he role in the bullpen was pretty well written in stone.
  16. Gamel has started playing in Winter Ball. So far he is 2 for 7 with a triple. (Also 3 strike outs)
  17. Seems a lot like the Chris Duffy move from last year. Limited (but some) upside. Can't hurt.
  18. Doug Melvin has indicated that Lopez & Cameron will not be offered arbitration. Looper's option was declined. Randy Wolf was not offered arbitration. This is not a good sign for free agents. With teams scared to spend money (and half the teams looking to cut salary), I think Wolf might be lucky to get 3 years and $37 Million.
  19. The Brewers have made a few inquiries about Kevin Millwood's availability, but so far the Rangers haven't been inclined to move him. Millwood went 13-10 with a 3.67 ERA last season, but with a change of leagues, he might flourish. So much is up in the air with the Texas ownership situation unresolved. Trading Millwood could allow the Rangers to use some of the money toward John Lackey. Boston Globe Millwood has a limited no-trade clause and is set to make $12M in 2010. I wonder if the Brewers think that with Rangers likely signing Sheets - they might be able to trade for Millwood.
  20. Adam Morrison I'm a big Gonzaga fan. While watching the Maui Tournament this past week they kept discussing the Gonzaga/Michigan State triple overtime game from 2005. (Possibly, the greatest November NCAA game ever) Adam Morrison was amazing in that game. When he showed up in Spokane as a clean cut freshman he was an instant success story. Now, I am embarrassed by what he has become. He could never play defense - but he should have at least been an average NBA starter. Look at a picture of him today - there is no way he didn't flush his career down the toilet with drugs.
  21. Awesome articles. I can't help but think of the Gandhi quote "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others". Seems like Coach and his players have had an equal impact on each other. That's an amazing program you have Coach. I hope you get to Milwaukee to see Salome make his major league debut. I'd love to buy you a beer.
  22. A quick blurb on Ryan Braun's defense in Sports Illustrated "Least Valuable Player Award" (Kendall got an honorable mention. Parra was LV pitcher) The worst fielder in the league was probably Ryan Braun, who managed a minus-31 Dewan as a left fielder, which is admittedly better than the minus-41 he had at third base in 2007. But, man, can Ryan Braun swat. Fangraphs has his fielding at -3.2 in 2008 and -14.4 in 2009. I had no idea he struggled so much defensively this past year.
  23. Again, not to divert the thread... But I don't believe Tom Haudricourt does much more than "compiles" this list based on discussions with people in the Milwaukee Brewers organization. We all know that Tom doesn't actually "scout" these players - so I always take the list as "Top 10 Prospects the Milwaukee Brewers are Excited About".
  24. Braddock? How much is he being downgraded because his immediate future is in the bullpen?
  25. That is why they are the Pirates. They traded their best player - and you can't remember who they got back! Andy LaRoche was involved in the trade.
