  1. I'm tired of Rickie Weeks. His bat currently annoys me. But his defense is horrible. Just once I want him to a make a quality play.
  2. Huntsville's lineup (minus pitching) is better than a few MLB clubs. Two more home runs for Gamel. One more for LaPorta. Gillespie has 3 doubles and a home run.
  3. You must be at least 21 to start the wave.
  4. Making week contact leads to a low batting average on balls in play. Weeks is hitting a lot of week ground balls, choppers and shallow pop-ups. I think I've only seen Weeks really center on about 10 balls this year. Counsell will start getting more starts as the season wears on. But in April, there are enough off days to keep everyone pretty fresh.
  5. I hate players who offer junk trade after junk trade... After years of playing with these guys, I have a pretty good idea of who is worth talking to and who is impossible to deal with. Today I was offered... Bill Hall Xavier Nady Fukudome for Ryan Braun Corey Hart Eric Gagne I mean, honestly!?! I wouldn't pick Hall or Nady up of of waivers. (The league isn't that deep)
  6. During the National Anthem, those kids are always standing at attention next to the players. The big screen usually shows them a few times. I always thought that would be an awesome picture...your 10 year old standing next to a Brewer during the National Anthem. (Just a heads up so you watch the screen and get a good picture)
  7. LaPorta, Gamel, Jeffress and Parra. I would have done it.That price may be steep - but it would have made us the NL favorites. And we wouldn't lose any talent from our big league roster this year. (Since you replace Parra with Haren)
  8. I didn't know anyone in the world still liked Zito. Because San Fransico sure doesn't like him. (He was demoted to the bullpen on a really bad team. And his fastball sits around 82-85 MPH. When healthy, Chris Capuano was better) I am really wishing the Brewers had mortgaged the farm this spring and traded for Haren. With all of the draft picks this year, and more comp picks likely next year (Sheets and maybe Gagne) we could have rebuilt the farm system in a hurry.
  9. Just curious - are we getting an updating Power 50 for the month of May?
  10. We need more pitchers? (Much less below average pitchers) (And you are way undervaluing Brantley)
  11. Huntsville swept the awards this past week. Southern League Mat Gamel, Huntsville .517 (15-29), 8 R, 2 2B, 2 3B, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 3 BB, 5 SO, 1 SB, .931 SLG At the end of April last season with Brevard County, Gamel was hitting just .230, and made his 11th error at third base in the month's final game. Of course, Gamel would go on his own hot streaks last season, ending with an .850 OPS on the good side, and 53 errors on the bad. This season has been a far different story, as Gamel's April has been good with the bat and shown much improvement with the glove -- an error Thursday was just his fifth of the season, and first since April 12. More important, Gamel collected three hits in three of Huntsville's four games with Jacksonville over the weekend, and his hitting streak now stands at 13 games. Southern League Sam Narron, Huntsville 1-0, 1.00 ERA, 1 G, 1 GS, 9.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO A clean sweep for Huntsville this week, as Narron joins teammate Mat Gamel who claimed the weekly honors for offensive players. It's only fitting, as Gamel's RBI double and run scored in the first inning on April 23 was all the offense Narron would need in a 9-1 win over Mississippi, his first complete game since Aug, 1, 2007. Narron took a perfect game into the eighth inning, retiring Mississippi's first 23 hitters, before Diory Hernandez tripled and Mark Jurich walked in the eighth. It should be noted left-handed hitters are batting just .161 against the southpaw this season.
  12. From the article.. Gamel has yet to put up numbers that really make you say "wow," but he has improved each and every year in gradual amounts. Gamel was MVP of the Hawaii Winter League. He is currently in AA with a BA of .362, a OBP of .423, Slugging .606 and an OPS of 1.029 as a 22 year old. Braun had a .956 OPS as a 22 year old in AA. You can say "wow" now. (I know that is minor league forum talk - but I had to defend Mat!)
  13. I was referring to Ben being 100% - not his ability to pitch on Tuesday. Yost said they were playing cautious with Ben, and he wouldn't pitch until this "injury" was past. Somehow, I suspect this isn't the last we've heard from Ben's "tightness"....
  14. In all seriousness, it's really going to be interesting to see what the Brewers do with Gamel. He probably needs all of this year in AA and then next year in AAA to work on his defense before he makes it to MLB. But, since his bat will likely be ready before that - are they really going to keep a bat in the minor leagues just to work on his defense? (The Brewers didn't keep Braun in AAA to work on his defense - but our outfield is so set for the future, we can't really slot Gamel as an outfielder.)
  15. Judging by the fact that Bush has been optioned to AAA...Sheets is obviously pitching Tuesday. And since Ned said that Sheets wouldn't pitch until this injury was done (Like done, done....done), that must mean Sheets is 100% The Brewers would never lie.
  16. The crowd today was really passive. No one seemed to care about the game at all. I counted 7 attempts at starting the wave - and it was a close game the entire time! By the 10th inning, the Terrace Reserved was 1/2 empty. Even with a full count on Mike Rivera, you almost have to beg people to stand up and cheer. I never go to games during the week, but I bet the smaller crowds are just as loud and better informed.
  17. Home Run and two triples - that'll get my boys slugging % a nice boost!
  18. Stetter is God! I have to imagine that is the reasoning behind this. Obviously, Bush is more valuable than McClung and Turnbow - but this way Bush will remain stretched out (And logging innings is Bush's best trait) in case he is needed.
  19. How is this thread not sponsored by the West Bend Mutual Company?
  20. I guess if you have a talented player that wants to sign a long term contract at a reasonable rate - you sign him. But you are right, Seattle did have some concern about Clement's future as a catcher. But well, V. Martinez isn't much of a "catcher" either, but when you hit that much it doesn't matter.
  21. Why would Houston trade Oswalt? He is signed for a long time. And Houston seems to think they are going to compete every year. If they trade Oswalt (And thus lose him for the next few years), you are wasting prime years of Berkman, Tejada and Carlos Lee. If you trade Oswalt, you almost have to look to trade those players as well.
  22. Seattle just signed Johjima to a contract extension through 2011. If they plan on playing Clement at DH or 1B, LaPorta would likely be better at either position. Clement would give us a catcher for the next 5 years. I think I would rather have LaPorta - but with our glut of OF and shortage of top flight catchers, it certainly seems to make some sense for both clubs.
  23. Before out last two games, our offense was on pace to score +60 runs compared to last year. Is it possible that everyone had too high of expectations for our offense?
  24. But the Brewers said his last skipped start was only a precautionary measure! The handling of this situation is so typical of the Brewers and Ben Sheets. "It's nothing to worry about" always transforms into the obligatory DL visit. You just have to figure any starts we get from Ben this year are gravy - I mean, did anyone really expect him to be healthy all year?
