  1. In his minor league career, Olt averages a HR every 20 PAs, that number shrinks to a HR every 14.6 PAs in AA. Smoak has a career minor league ratio of a HR every 32.2 PAs, 37.8 in AA. I'm not saying its the end all be all of stats, but based on that, it seems like Olt has a bit more power than Smoak. Olt career OPS - .914, Smoak - .859. Smoak also only played 1B. Olt has played 1B/3B/RF (2 games) in his minor league career. Could he be Smoak part 2, sure, but the numbers say a different story.
  2. Dempster is planning on pitching for the Cubs tomorrow. This is very good news for the Brewers.
  3. Regardless of who they do end up trading, this team will still be marketed around Braun, Gallardo, Lucroy, and now possibly Fiers. Sure, they could market around Hart if they kept him as well, but I don't think trading Ramirez would do much to how fans view this team. Short term hit, maybe, but by next year it will have left most people's minds. The other thing to think about with AmRam is that he is the type of player who would probably make it through waivers (especially if the Brewers were able to pick up a stud 3B for Greinke). His trade deadline may not be July 31st.
  4. Sounds like some scouts feel the same way we do... http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/danny-knobler/19646442/brewers-hope-to-trade-k-rod,-but-he-isn't-helping-(and-axford-could-be-back-closing-soon)
  5. To call Greinke a non-all-star pitcher is kind of ridiculous. He clearly should have been picked to be on the team this year.
  6. The Dodgers are interested in Aramis.
  7. If the Brewers were to trade Maldy, I would hope it would be in the off season when there are 29 teams open to trade talks, not just 18.
  8. Ok, clearly my point is being missed. Weeks is having a horrible year, but its a small sample in comparison to his career. Just as Maldonado's success has been at a major league level. I'm guessing Weeks will closer to a .260/.340 hitter that he has shown he is, rather than the .195/.300 hitter he's been this year. It is really discouraging to see this many people turn on a guy who was an All Star last season.
  9. Including AAA, Maldonado has a .300 OBP.
  10. Well, a lot of people on here look at Maldonado as a future starter. As a hitter, he isn't great, that was my point.
  11. Weeks has a higher OBP than Maldonado this season.
  12. What Melvin says is kind of refreshing seeing though it is 100% the truth.
  13. I agree with you on that TLB. I wouldn't necessarily trade Profar for Greinke either, I'm just surprised, given the Rangers position as a WS contender and their depth at MI, that he would be completely off the table.
  14. Again, its not just win (make it to the playoffs)-now. Its win (win a World Series)-now. Its not like they don't already have two very good middle infielders that Profar could come up and just blow out of the water. That's why I'm surprised they would take him off the market as "reported".
  15. I realize that Profar projects to be better than Andrus, but if he was better now, he would be playing in the bigs. Maybe this is partially because of my mindset of a team that doesn't compete year in and year out, but you go for it when you have a chance to go for it. You never know who will get hurt next year or if anyone will regress. They have one of the best teams in the league and if you can trade a guy that currently isn't helping you to get a stud pitcher, I would do it 7 days a week and twice on Sundays.
  16. Maldonado still has a lot to prove before I start to believe he is the real thing. I would prefer he went down to AAA to play every day to get more ABs. He has had a good month and a half at the major league level (still only average offensively for a major league catcher), but his slash line on the year is still only .237/.297/.379/.677. I am glad that he hasn't been a black hole in the lineup, but Lucroy is our guy and should be starting 4 out of 5 days when healthy. Kottaras isn't great, in fact, he's not even good, but name a team that has a really good backup catcher.
  17. I am in the "I do whatever it takes to win a World Series when I have the team to do it" camp I guess.
  18. Right, its a different situation. My point is they have a team right now that is ready to win a World Series. If it takes your top prospect that is currently blocked by an above average player, you should look at using one of those two to upgrade your team now. I would have had no problem with the Brewers using Peralta or Thornburg last year to pick up that last major piece to put them over the top. Its one thing to trade a top prospect to get into the playoffs, it another to trade him to win a WS.
  19. I don't understand why Profar isn't available. They have Andrus playing SS until 2014, do they plan on moving one of them to 2B?
  20. I thought that was only if the player was traded in mid-season.
  21. TLB, I'm pretty sure they are just picking the best players available, at least by their board.
  22. Was hoping to Aoki in CF tonight, but hopefully Nyjer keeps it going! Let's go crew!
