I just realized that if Salome gets called up in September, and Colome stays with the team for longer than a month, then we could possibly see Colome pitching to Salome. I like rhymes.
I also thought the White Sox would've been the other team that made sense other than the Mariners. Wise just doesn't belong on the major league roster, but they don't have anyone to take his place. Rios would be a great pickup, especially because he can play CF for this season, and then RF next season when Dye is gone.
According to MLB Trade Rumors latest update - 10:02pm: Olney is now reporting that the White Sox "are most likely the team awarded claim on Rios, but the Blue Jays have not confirmed it." The Sox face a mutual option on right fielder Jermaine Dye after the season, and could also consider using Rios in center field if they acquire him.
Ok, so I'm not gonna ban myself, but I still take the blame for this loss :P Seriously, though, major bummer we couldn't win the first one of the series to build momentum. Not an easy task, I guess, when Villy's on the mound.
Yankees - It's the Yankees Tigers - Replaces Magglio in RF Rays - Replaces Gross/Kapler in RF (least likely option of the maybe's) White Sox - Replaces Wise in CF; Dye in RF Mariners - Bat for middle of the lineup Rangers - Replaces Byrd in OF Royals - Prone to making stupid moves; no current talent in OF (2nd least likely option) My bet is on the Mariners. EDIT #2: Looks like I lose that bet. 8:44pm: Geoff Baker of The Seattle Times reports that the Mariners did not put the claim in on Rios.
Now according to MLB Trade Rumors, the Giants "strongly hinted" they aren't the team that claimed Rios. So...Mets? Negative. Red Sox? Nope. Giants? Nada. Whodunnit?
While looking through the JSOnline boards, I noticed somebody posted that they think the Brewers should pick him up to serve as a pinch hitter. I had no choice but to spit out the drink of water I had just taken. EDIT: Another poster down the line mentioned "keeping Giambi on ice until Prince leaves". Now I just simply think they're kidding around over there.
Looking at our bench, and especially who's starting in RF now, I'd say Gross and Kapler would be welcome additions at this point. I'd also take Balfour over McClung and Shouse over Smith. They can keep Bennett, Choate, Dillon, and Swindle though.
I was referred to this site back in '06 by a friend of mine. I don't even think he posts here anymore, though. By the sound of it, I'm glad I never was a part of either the JSOnline or ESPN boards.
Well, we could always take Crawford and Kaz, too. Even Kaz would be a #2 for us (although he's having a pretty crap year this season). I disagree with the statement that Garza would be the #1 over Yovani, though. #2, most certainly, but not exactly #1.
