  1. Having married someone from that neck of the woods, in their defense, all the TV channels and coverage they get (or at least got up through the mid-90s) was heavily Minnesota focused. People north of Highway 8 and west of Highway 51 feel pretty disconnected to the Milwaukee/Madison part of Wisconsin.
  2. But then why not Coffey from the start, why DiFelice. It just seemed like an odd move to burn two right handers there. Not a big deal, just weird. My first thought was that his injury had flared back up. This game is really bumming me out, for some reason.
  3. Uh oh, this has that Yost-era circling the drain in the late innings kinda feel of a game.
  4. That's cool, but I'd rather see the Manny Parra, I've figured it all out; stop talking about sending me back to the minors game. Both would be ideal.
  5. For the sake of the Brewers playoff chances this year, I hope Gamel runs away with it. His HR in St. Louis was so impressive, but he really hasn't impressed me much since then until last night. Hopefully Macha's commitment to giving her regular PT will get him going. .
  6. Same lineup as last night. From TH blog: 2B Craig Counsell SS J.J. Hardy LF Ryan Braun 1B Prince Fielder CF Mike Cameron 3B Mat Gamel RF Corey Hart C Jason Kendall RhP Jeff Suppan
  7. Yeah I don't get it either. It's getting to the point where anything Braun does is criticized and bemoaned for being unclassy or questionable. I have never seen such a good player questioned so much by his hometown fans, especially one who has had no obvious triggers like contract disputes or law breaking. Um, because its mostly a joke? Did you look at the pictures? C'mon. Make a joke, you know you want to. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/devil.gif
  8. I love Ryan Braun and hate Deadspin, but I couldn't agree more with this: http://deadspin.com/5277789/ryan-braun-would-like-to-help-you-grease-up-your-wardrobe Those searching relentlessly for a t-shirt designed to better accentuate spray tans, distressed jeans, and forearm skull tattoos owe the Brewers left fielder an exploding fist-bump. Braun, plus his Brewers teammates, came out to support his REMETEE launch party in Milwaukee to help support his company's new line of Jabroni-wear.And don't for a minute think that Braun's just in this to clothe his MMA buddies and teammates. Nope, he's got REMETEE (sounds like "remedy" - not "Ream Tea") positioned for world domination: Mad respect, Brauny. Mad respect.
  9. Swindle has been called up twice, pitched in three games and given up a run in each of those games. Again, TH said: "He gives up runs every time he comes up and pitches." It is fair and accurate to use present tense, because a) it occurred in the past, and b) continues to the present. Here's the sentence in full context: "The Brewers haven't had much luck calling up LHP R.J. Swindle, who gives up runs every time he comes up and pitches." I can't believe this is a discussion.
  10. I think it also speaks to the influence Macha may have over DM, and possibly the reason he kept him in there last night. After reading Moneyball, I still find it hard to believe that any manger has any influence over a GM ... especially Macha.
  11. Before he was traded, I remember there was a lot of talk that Cruz couldn't hit ANY breaking pitches. And I remember a fair portion of the fan base being ticked that Cruz was traded, more so than Lee. He was highly touted by both the brewers and and Brewers fans. But even with his recent success, I don't see how you can say Cruz is one that got away. Hart and Braun made it to the show earlier and produced in the ML, which it took longer for Cruz to do. If he continued to waste away in AAA, and failed to produce during his limited chance with the Brewers in the bigs, most fans would bemoan the idea that we didn't trade him when his value was higher. Cruz's ascension to the majors is a nice story, but I trust Melvin and Co. made the right choice in which player to keep.
  12. He used a perfectly acceptable and accurate tense. He used present tense, which is allowed for things that have occurred in the past and continue to the present. There's nothing misleading about it.
  13. After how long they waited on Mota to turn it around last year even though everyone was calling for his head, and then he did sort of turn it around in the second half ... well, I don't think the move to bring in another pitcher is going to result in a Julio DFA.
  14. 4 @ FLA (2-2) 3 @ATL (2-1) 3 vs COL (3-0) 3 vs CWS (2-1) 3 @ CLE (2-1) 3 @ DET (0-3) 3 vs MIN (2-1) 3 vs SF (3-0) 3 vs NYM (3-0) I think they finish strong after a panic inducing sweep at Detroit. 19-9 24 homers
  15. MP's not the first stadium to try it. I think it will work. It's too cumbersome to bother with if you are just slightly annoyed, but could be helpful getting rid of the real pains. http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?id=4012452
  16. From TH blog: RF Corey Hart 3B Bill Hall LF Ryan Braun 1B Prince Fielder CF Mike Cameron SS J.J. Hardy 2B Casey McGehee C Jason Kendall RHP Jeff Suppan This is certainly an interesting lineup. Hopefully the bats stay hot and Bill Hall proves his wroth v. LHP.
  17. From the Brewer JS blog Have you ever been upset with a boorish fan inside Miller Park? Sure you have. Now the Milwaukee Brewers have unveiled a new service where you can quietly and instantly fink on the fan with your cellphone. Fans can report misconduct by texting BREWERS, followed by a space, then their seat/ballpark location and specific concern to 41513. After the message is received, Miller Park personnel will monitor and send a staff person to investigate. "Media and fan surveys already indicate that the Miller Park fan experience is one of the best in baseball, but this text message service offers our fans another amenity to enhance the atmosphere," said Rick Schlesinger, executive vice president for business operations. "We want to ensure that all of our customers enjoy their visit to Miller Park and are free of concerns related to fan misconduct." The program is called "Play Nice - Be a Friendly Fan." Hopefully this will help with some of the problems fan on the board have encountered. Does anyone know if the Brewers have considered playing Saturday Cub games earlier in the day. I live in St. Louis, and the Cards play many of their Saturday games at noon. By starting so early, they get around the Fox blackout rules. Wouldn't this cut down on the level of pre-partying boorish fans on both sides could do before the game?
  18. Also, crazy game in Anaheim, Angles were down 8-1 in the sixth and just tied on a two-out, four-pitch bases loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth. Edit: Next batter singles to win the game. Wow.
  19. When this team is hitting, it's just so much fun. Hopefully their bats stay hot on the road trip.
  20. Gamel's in. From the TH blog: BREWERS 2B Craig Counsell SS JJ Hardy LF Ryan Braun 1B Prince Fielder CF Mike Cameron 3B Mat Gamel RF Corey Hart C Jason Kendall RHP Yovani Gallard
  21. Cards absolutely will not make that move because of the financial cost, and I don't buy the Cubs as a legit threat. The Padres will not trade him to L.A. and if the Mets or Phillies want to trade for him, we're not going to beat their package/financial incentives for Peavy. This team cannot afford a Yankee-type "We can't let the other guys get him" kinda move.
  22. I would have loved if the Bucks would have traded Ford or Mo away and taken Paul instead, but to say that he was the BPA at the time is kind of misleading. Very few people were advocating Paul as a potential Top 2 pick outside of maybe Bill Simmons. It wasn't clear to most that he was going to be a great player, many doubted him because of his size (listed a 6-foot, but c'mon). I remember watching how dominating he was a Wake as well and that's why I like him as the Bucks pick. It reminds be a lot of the way I feel about Ty Lawson, not neccesairyly in the style of play, but the way he seemed to be the standout player in the NCAA tournament.
  23. From the McCalvy blog: REDS Willy Taveras CF Jerry Hairston Jr. 2B Joey Votto 1B Ramon Hernandez C Jay Bruce RF Laynce Nix LF Alex Gonzalez SS Adam Rosales 3B Johnny Cueto RHP BREWERS Craig Counsell 2B J.J. Hardy SS Ryan Braun LF Prince Fielder 1B Mike Cameron CF Mat Gamel 3B Corey Hart RF Jason Kendall C Braden Looper RHP
  24. Agreed. I didn't even realize that he is hitting leadoff and has experience/success at it. It really would be the perfect fit. I think the DeRosa thing appeals to fans because it would be a nice stick in the eye to Cubs considering their depth problems without them. Lopez also has a bit of that apeal, considering the Cards let him walk and all of their middle infield problems.
