  1. I doubt it -- I'd assume everyone gets at least 1 AB. With how serious Hurdle seems about winning this game, I wouldn't be surprised if some bench guys (like Corey) don't get to play at all. It seems like the Final Vote guys rarely get into the game at all, unless they pinch hit for the pitcher. Since it's AL rules, that's not going to happen...it'd be cool to see Corey get an AB, but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for it to happen.
  2. What, "Who needs steroids!?" "Hey, we have 8 white guys in this thing!" and "It's a bad night for atheists!" aren't tasteful comments?
  3. If you read the stories written about Hamilton, you'd find out that he's tested for every drug under the sun by MLB 3 times a week...I'd think if he was taking steroids, they would show up in the tests. If you're talking about HGH or any other designer PEDs, then no, I wouldn't be surprised, because most players probably are. It's a good story now, but it's a shame that we can't enjoy anyone's success without someone questioning it. I'm sure there's whispers about Ryan Braun being on something after his early success, too.

  5. Amen. If only we could dig up that picture hawing took at a Badgers basketball game that caught EVERYONE in the arena with their eyes fixed on Erin Andrews instead of the game. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  6. The wildcard automatically plays the team with the best record, assuming they aren't in the same division. If that's the case, then the team with the second best record plays the wildcard. My predictions.. East - Mets (88 wins) Central - Cubs (97 wins) West - Diamondbacks (86 wins) Wildcard - Brewers (90 wins) Brewers def. Mets in 5 Cubs def. D'Backs in 4 Beyond that I refuse to make a prediction. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. They still wear their own team's jerseys (plus an All-Star patch on the sleeve) during the game, but they have to wear the "All-Star" jersey during warm-ups and the Home Run Derby.
  8. That AL lineup kinda sucks, compared to the NL. Here's to hoping the NL gets on the board early and there's no blown save, like there was in Pittsburgh a couple years ago.
  9. Wieters is a flat-out stud and may be Major-League ready soon -- I don't think they'd have much interest in Salome. Roberts is Peter Angelos' favorite player and turned down the same offer the Cubs ended up giving the A's for Rich Harden. The Brewers are going to have to drastically overpay to pry Roberts from Angelos' grip. Weeks, Jeffress, and Gamel might do it. If that's the price, no thanks...I'd rather get Ray Durham and his .380 OBP to split some time with Weeks this year for a much cheaper price.
  10. I'm just hoping they don't make Sheets go 3 innings due to so many of the NL pitchers having pitched Sunday. Brandon Webb already came out and said he won't be pitching unless the NL runs out of pitchers, and Tim Lincecum threw a ton of pitches against the Cubs yesterday.
  11. I have no doubts that the Cubs aren't done dealing. As much as the Brewers are "going for it" this year, Hendry and the Cubs are going to do everything within their power to prevent the World Series drought from extending past 100 years. In the eyes of many, anything less than a World Series would be a total failure for the Cubs this year, and Hendry's job might be on the line. They're likely to go out and get another arm or two (Burnett is still a possibility, IMO), and maybe another bat for the bench.
  12. Probably sometime later tonight or tomorrow -- NL manager Clint Hurdle is still managing the Rockies for a few more innings tonight, so I imagine he hasn't had a lot of time to look over his options for starting pitchers. By process of elimination, though (looking at when pitchers on the staff last pitched), it appears to be between Ben Sheets and Carlos Zambrano for the NL.
  13. It's not like they're not hitting him hard -- there's been a number of balls that were hit hard but right at outfielders. Hopefully the third time through the order will be the charm.
  14. It's the bottom of the 4th...still plenty of time to get to Bailey.
  15. Gamel walks in his first AB. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  16. Arizona @ Philadelphia -- Webb vs. Hamels, 12:35 PM St. Louis @ Pittsburgh -- Piniero vs. Snell, 12:35 PM San Francisco @ Chicago -- Lincecum vs. Dempster, 1:20 PM (Televised on WGN) Florida @ Los Angeles -- Miller vs. Billingsley, 3:10 PM Colorado @ New York -- Redman vs. Pelfrey, 7:10 PM (ESPN Sunday Night Baseball) The Futures Game, featuring Mat Gamel, is currently on ESPN2.
  17. Yeah, that's what I think, too -- I just thought it was interesting. I'm not about to predict impending doom or anything like that. There's a lot more factors that come into play, too -- the bad pre-break stretches in Ned's early years were due to the team just being bad overall. Last year, it was the result of the Ramirez walkoff HR in Chicago, Hall getting hurt in Pittsburgh, and Capuano and Suppan imploding in Washington. This year, no one's hitting.
  18. Even though he has an ERA over 8, Bailey has had a ton of hype as one of the best pitching prospects in baseball. He's yet to put it together in the majors (probably due to the Reds pushing him through the system before he was ready), but he's got good stuff. If the Brewers get shut down again today, it's not like being shut down by Glendon Rusch and Josh Fogg. As far as the lineup goes, why is Ned giving Corey Hart a day off on the last day before the All-Star Break? Does Ned figures Corey needs a day off before sitting the entire game on the NL's bench? Why not just throw Counsell and Rivera into the lineup and announce "we're trying to get the hell out of Milwaukee by 3:00"?
  19. Because Jason Michaels is my new hero, it's possible again for the Brewers to head into the break with the wildcard lead with a little help. Maybe things aren't so bad, after all. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif The Cards had 22 hits tonight and LOST.
  20. JASON MICHAELS IS ALL THAT IS MAN. Tonight wasn't a total loss...at least the Brewers stay a half game back of the Cards.
  21. The Brewers were probably bound to lose the McClung/Volquez match-up, anyway. Sabathia/Bailey looks much more favorable.
  22. This isn't really much of a vent, so I created a new topic for it. It seems like every year, the Brewers manage to stumble -- if not completely collapse -- heading into the All-Star break. I was curious to find out whether it's just been a case of my memory being short or if the Brewers have always had trouble playing well going into the break under Yost. Using Baseball Reference, I looked up how the Brewers fared in the last 10 games before the break every year in the Yost Era (the 10 game mark is fairly arbitrary, but I figured it was a good one because it's roughly the last 3 series before the break, and the Brewers will be ending a 10-game homestand tomorrow). I don't know if we can actually draw any conclusions from the results, but here they are: 2008: 6-4 with a win on Sunday, 5-5 with a loss 2007: 3-7 2006: 4-6 2005: 6-4 2004: 4-6 2003: 3-7 While this past week has certainly been tough to handle, it's not as bad as it's been in recent years. I figured it'd be a nice topic for discussion, since I can't be the only one that's been frustrated with this team constantly tripping over itself heading into the break.
  23. There were horses, and men on fire, and I think Adam Dunn killed a guy with a triton.
  24. Since HGH is technically undetectable by MLB right now, we could theoretically pitch in a few bucks each to send a shipment Gagne's way, right? One last cycle and maybe he'll go from "horrible" to "mediocre".
  25. Nothing -- NOTHING! -- seems to go right in these series against the Reds. Whether it's Josh Fogg outdueling Manny Parra or Dunn launching homers into the Dew Deck or Javier Valentin hitting walkoff singles. I don't think there's a team I hate seeing the Brewers play more. Hopefully CC shuts them down tomorrow.
