  1. Actually, isn't the only reason Thornburg is back in the rotation is because Gorz got hurt? Thornburg was sent back to the bullpen when Gorz got healty. It made no difference to RRR that Thornburg was excellent in the rotation. RRR saw a vet ready to return and quickly delegated Thornburg to the bullpen. Made no sense then, and still makes no sense. If Gorz stayed healthy, I believe Thornburg would still be toiling in the bullpen. Gorzelanny got sent to the bullpen after he predictably sucked after a few good starts. Gorzelanny got hurt when he went back to the bullpen.
  2. The twitter war on this between Jon Morosi and Craig Calcaterra is hilarious and Calcaterra won the war going away.
  3. I would say no. We'd be decent but I don't think those moves make us better than the Cards, Reds or Pirates and you'd have to think we might be worse than the Nats as well. So 4th in the division and at least one team that is probably better as well. It's much smarter for us to rebuild right now that probably isn't happening though.
  4. and shame and disgrace on his family name for generations to come. Probably. Second failed test is Seppuku.
  5. What exactly are they learning from Lohse and why is it costing us that much money and a pick? I think "veteran leadership" is a bunch of crap that's used to defend the signing. The only young pitcher on the staff to open this year was Peralta. Why couldn't Gallardo or Estrada teach him all of their "veterany leadershipness?"
  6. Good thing Bianchi is on the bench doing nothing. They've run him into the ground after playing winter ball. Just give him a day or two off.
  7. I thought they settled down after the first 15 minutes, not 30. At worst it was even from 15-30.
  8. Even if the Mets have a better future this is the Yankees. They will always be the king in New York so going after them makes a ton of sense.
  9. It's pretty simple. Braun does nothing, he has no remorse and doesn't care about the fans. Braun does something, it's a PR move and he doesn't really mean it. If I was him I would just realize I can't win and wouldn't do a damn thing but I'm old-fashioned (or maybe new school?) that way.
  10. Rogers signed for $2.2 million, Bailey signed for $2.3 million. http://www.angelfire.com/vt/prospectwatch/index1335.html
  11. I'm really enjoying Fox Sports 1. Their Crowd Goes Wild show has potential to be some good competition for ATH and PTI. Of course they're going to need something better than UFC weigh-ins if they really want to challenge them overall.
  12. The most ridiculous season of the year in Japan goes to former Mariner and Red Wladimir Balentien who is hitting .340/.468/.823/1.291 with 52 homers in 356 at bats. That's a homer every 6.8 at bats!
  13. At least see what Scooter can do against a tough lefty. Infuriating, especially considering who's starting in his place.
  14. I don't think there's a specific rule other than you have to have a player out on the field in the area of the on deck circle.
  15. I don't think that's true. If that were the case pretty much every player was paid well over slot in the 2nd round. Gallardo was the 46th overall pick (5th in the 2nd round), the first pick of the 2nd round was college pitcher Brett Smith from UC-Irvine, he signed for $800,000, the next two picks were signed for $800,000 (one was another college pitcher), Reid Brignac was the 45th pick and signed for $795,000 out of high school and Gallardo signed as the next pick for $725,000. That doesn't seem overslot to me.
  16. That I am. I love Wenger... he's a huge reason I got into following club football, period. Spurs for you? Not Spurs, Chelsea but as they say, you're either a blue or a red and I am clearly a blue.
  17. You're an Arsenal fan, TLB? We can't be friends.
  18. Dear Bill, shut up about the strike zone. It was clearly off the plate. When you ask how a batter can take that, the answer is simple. It's because they thought it was a ball, the umpire agreed and Pitch F/X confirmed it. You are a dolt.
  19. Because it is? The top 4 of the Cardinals (Taveras, Wacha, Wong and Gast though I have no idea what Gast is doing that high on the list) is far better than Nelson, Jungmann, Hellweg and Taylor and that's even after the Cardinals have also graduated Miller, Rosenthal, Martinez and Adams off their prospect list this year. We're just so ridiculously far behind other teams, especially the teams in our division on high upside prospects as well as depth.
  20. Hard fastball and control problems just like Axford. Speaking of Axford he just completed his first inning for the Cardinals. Got Clint Barmes to flyout, Felix Pie (yes, that Felix Pie) to ground out and Jose Tabata to line out.
  21. That's an awful reason to keep him. Does that mean they'll keep him next year and every year as long as Segura is a Brewer? He's not playing right now anyways, or at least playing very rarely so keeping him to stay in the top 10 isn't a good excuse either.
  22. McCalvy made it sound like the PTBNL will be named next week in which case it wouldn't hinge on Axford's success.
  23. That and Brian's constant use of the phrase "As a matter of fact."
  24. Who saw Celtic come back from down 2-0 in the aggregate to beat Shakhter Karagandy yesterday? What an awesome game that was. Anyways, Champions League groups are out now. Group A Manchester United Shakhtar Donetsk Bayer Leverkusen Real Sociedad Group B Real Madrid Juventus Galatasaray Copenhagen Group C Benfica Paris Saint-Germain Olympiacos Anderlecht Group D Bayern Munich CSKA Moscow Manchester City Viktoria Plzen Group E Chelsea Schalke 04 Basel Steaua Bucuresti Group F Arsenal Marseille Borussia Dortmund Napoli Group G Porto Atletico Madrid Zenit Saint Petersburg Austria Wien Group H Barcelona Milan Ajax Celtic Toughest group for me looks like Group F. Feel bad for Celtic, after such an emotional high yesterday they just get screwed in the group.
  25. Brandon Phillips isn't happy about a reporter pointing out his .310 OBP.
