  1. Really like this lineup. Villar looks confident at the plate. Let’s get the offense rolling!
  2. I don't believe they go with all five of Santana/Braun/Brinson/Phillips/Broxton in 2018. Someone will be traded. I'd still expect Villar to start at 2B in 2018, as long as he keeps doing what he's currently doing.
  3. We've been fortunate that Braun has been relatively healthy the last month or more. I don't mind giving him an extra day off with Nelson on the mound.
  4. Time to snap out of it offense! Let’s just win one today and forget about record.
  5. Sometimes its better to accept that your current team as constructed is likely not a contender going forward and to best use your resources to get another shot in the nearest future possible. Especially for a franchise that cannot afford to compete, both financially and in the attractiveness of the market, for the best free agents and international talent, nor is it wise to do so without potentially crippling the organization into many years of losing. This strategy of trading assets for younger, controllable talent is an inevitable strategy for small market baseball, not a tank.
  6. I'm not a prolific poster but I've been visiting this site since around 2001-2002 and I'm still around reading what's posted here. Rluzinski and Al were always two of my favorite posters but there are/were many that had great perspectives. I visit Al's Ramblings pretty much every day for his Brewer insights as well as Disciples of Uecker (that's you, And That, right?). Last I knew Fatter than Joey was contributing to Brew Crew Ball but that was a few years ago now. I'm glad to see discussion still active here. Some of the liveliest discussions came when the Brewers were still just fighting their way out of the cellar and into mediocrity; we all just were waiting for the Brewers to be relevant. I've been a Brewer fan since '87 (age 5) and always listened to Uecker since we were too far away to attend games often and didn't get them on TV. It was great to find this community to finally have a connection to other die-hard Brewer fans.
  7. First post here in awhile but I am still lurking. I finally got the impetus in my brain to quit smoking. Stopped cold turkey in April and haven't smoked one cigarette since. My advice is persevere through the difficult times of wanting a cigarette and just avoid it, I am definitely glad to be rid of the habit!
  8. I guess I would say that there are 30 teams in MLB and "replenishing" the talent pool in the minors is more easily said than done. It is impossible for every team to have great talent in their farm system. How eager were teams to trade away their valued pitching prospects in the last 10 years, especially with the impact of Moneyball? Would the prices have been too steep and cost the MLB team opportunities to contend? How many top flight pitching prospects were traded for and actually made an impact on an MLB club in the last 10 years?
  9. Is Gallardo missing his spots? He hasn't allowed a walk yet is getting hammered.
  10. Win out and the Cards could go 2-4. It's not over over but this one hoits.
  11. I think people are just taking umbrage with your style of arguing on this board. I wouldn't keep pushing the obvious facts if they weren't. Everyone is aware of the obvious facts, no need to condescend. You are saying it is impossible that Greinke resigns here, others are saying it is not impossible. Difference of opinions I guess. I'd like to see the thread get back to the topic at hand: potential trade partners/returns for Greinke.
  12. Greinke is just allowing himself to be traded in order to get the Brewers some extra assets for his inevitable return via free agency.
  13. Good luck to Ben, I hope he makes it back and can contribute to some team. I would enjoy watching him pitch again.
  14. When I see the "inexcusable" comment, I wonder: what should be done after a mental mistake like this? Are you advocating he be benched as punishment? Cut? When someone says "this should never happen", I say to myself: well, it just did. It's happened before and most definitely will happen again. Maybe Ramirez's mental acuity causes lapses like this but I'm not sure what a manager/coach could do about it. Ramirez obviously knows what he should do in a given situation but may be more prone to mental mistakes. It is what it is.
  15. I really dig the show for its style and cinematography (I think that's the term I'm looking for?). However I can see how it is tough to get into for some people. You really can't just watch an episode and be enthralled. It took me half a season to really understand that this was going a long arcing show and that storylines would progress very subversively.
  16. Opening Day!!! So excited to have meaningful baseball games back! Not so excited about the Gonzalez batting 6th ahead of Gamel thing. Let's win today.

  18. Deep down, I feel Mat will have a fine year if he is given the PA's to succeed. Melvin/Roenicke must be patient with him if he struggles out of the gate. He needs at least 300 PA's to start the season before anything hasty is done. Roenicke gave McGehee quite the leash last year; why not let Gamel have the same? I predict an .850 OPS with 24 homers if he gets the opportunity to stick in the lineup.
  19. Yep, pretty darn good ending, and have to admit I did not see the Sofia twist coming. The multi-layered dynamic of Shane vs. Rick will be a crucial part of the second half of the season.
  20. I really enjoy the show but agree the pacing is a lot slower than I anticipated. It's like they are drawing it out, preparing for a 10 season arc.

  22. Right, he just turned and looked at Napoli and said "you POS" but no, you're right, he was just yelling at himself. And in a very classy way, mind you.
  23. Mose insisting on parking Toby's car and then plowing it about 20 rows deep into the corn field was one of the first times I've laughed out loud watching this show for awhile. Decent episode, I enjoyed the "closing ceremony" with Dwight as well.
  24. As much as the last two games have sucked, it's just a one game difference. Roenicke has to find a way to keep the guys loose today and hope to spark the offense. I'm confident they can win tonight.
