  1. personally. if this is a minor league deal, it would be OK. its hard to justify it being a MLB deal though. If the plan is to platoon him and sogard and let Healy play in San Antonio, maybe it will work out, maybe it won't. The posters who said that the team hasn't improved anywhere on the roster over last year are correct though. This has to be a in stearns we trust move, because it is disappointing from the outside looking in.
  2. I'm starting it. BADS - Brett Anderson Derangement Syndrome.
  3. This is good news, but lets me honest, I would be shocked to see him leave as a free agent and coach elsewhere. Nothing is impossible. He will be here as long as he wants to manage and that the brewers will keep him.
  4. from walterfootball: (sums up my thoughts pretty well), Coach Mac did well here but I thought it was more about who he had under center than his great coaching abilities.
  5. you may be right, but the brewers already have a poor defender at 2nd and catcher. how many can you put out there everyday?
  6. Yeah not much resistance behind Berger, so a good camp seals his starting spot
  7. I think the most pressing need for Stearns is to figure out reasonable long term answers in the corner IF positions, going into opening day 2021. This takes care of 1/2 of that. Smoak was always just a short term, relatively cheap, stopgap. I think they best thing to do is to figure it out for this year, but if you do this, Smith needs to play consistently
  8. I think Smith is a perfect long term answer here. kind of reminds me of having overbay over there. not too much power but will hit for average and is good enough on defense. I also won't complain about using the payroll that they cut to "buy" a prospect.
  9. nothing, i am sure it will be added to the subject line once it has been announced.
  10. Gave up a pick to sign Grandal so it's not far fetched. I never thought they weren’t all in so it is possible even though it would be 2 straight offseason giving up a high pick and compensation pick. For a system that is low on top prospects that is a high price to pay. I won’t rip them if they do it but I think there are other ways to do it without giving up that much
  11. He would fit wonderfully at the top of our lineup. I don’t really care if it’s a one year fix before he hits free agency. The angels got him for basically nothing, I wonder hit much they would ask for?
  12. Why would the Angels trade their leadoff hitter when they're hoping to contend? I was trying to figure out the same thing. He would be great but I think Frazier is the most realistic option at this point.
  13. I'd love LaStella. I'd be OK with Fraizer on a 1 year deal to buy a season before having to figure out a long term answer.
  14. I wouldn't have minded Hill, but thats very expensive if he hits the very low threshold for his bonus. no thank you on Bailey. never thought he was much good at all. agreed that it makes stearns moves to put the rotation even better.
  15. really yelich should be the only one, but if there is 2 i'd guess its Hiura.
  16. to answer the question on the thread, it was never announced when he signed his extension in January.
  17. Show ANY proof of this please. he has seemed nothing but happy here. yes maybe sometime he will want to go somewhere with less financial restraints or closer to home, but that doesn't necessarily equate to any better chance of winning.
  18. the brewers gave up alot to get yelich, and 2 years later its obvious it wasn't nearly enough. Stearns needs to remember that before making any trade.
  19. totally agree, Smith is fine, but Matz isn't the type of pitcher you want to headline the trade. He is only controllable for 2 seasons and has been very average of late.
  20. it is your god given right to do so, but its just a 1 year deal for 5 million, so even if it goes south (don't think it will), the brewers will be OK.
  21. Stearns just proves again that he is smarter than everyone else. Instead of committing big money and years to players north of 30, he has filled out the roster with players on shorter deals where very little (if any) drop off production wise. I think atleast one more move is coming, but I am really pumped for March!.
  22. I don't think the Dodgers do this straight up even.
  23. Glad that we now have people suggesting the order of operations for a [so far] very good GM. I'm sure he's just blindly throwing darts. When March rolls around: "Oh, crap! I forgot about a starting third baseman!" YES, i know he will have it figured out, but there are only 26 men on a roster and we have a bunch of scrappy middle IF's on the team and no corner IF's. I have not complained at all this offseason, and have said we have no idea what the master plan is, just making an observation.
  24. I have been as positive as anyone else here on this offseason, but I don't understand this one. Yes he had a nice season last year, but I don't see how he fits here, with Arcia, Urias, and Huerra on the roster. The only way it makes sense is if you are going to trade Arcia and let sogard back up those positions. I do wish Stearns would focus on the open holes in the corner IF spots rather than adding depth to the middle IF positions.
