First game of a doubleheader

Pitching matchups

MIL: LHP Manny Parra (0-0, 3.86 ERA)

His fastball touches 93 mph, and he has impressed Yost with an ability to throw that pitch, plus a slider and a changeup, for strikes. Parra, coming off several years of injury issues, made only four Triple-A starts before his promotion, but one of them was a perfect game.

STL: RHP Brad Thompson (6-4, 4.93 ERA)

The right-hander learned a valuable lesson on Sunday. He can survive without his bread-and-butter sinker being sharp. He wouldn't want to have to do it every game, but it's nice to know it's there.

Player to watch

Left fielder Geoff Jenkins is hitting .326 in day games, with six of his 13 home runs.

On television

? WMLW 41

? FSN

? DirecTV Channel 658

On radio

? WTMJ 620

Come on Manny!

I'm predicting 5.1 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3K, 1BB.

When I think of double headers I always think of being outscored 21-3 by Pittsburgh in 2004. That felt like the start of that awful second half.

Come on Crew, lets at least clinch a split in this series today. Anything better than that, and the Cards might pack it in for the year.

Havent been this excited for a day of baseball in a long long time!!!

2 down.....5 to go....in the "double sweep" I predicted yesterday.

And the Cubs have tough company in Aaron Harang.

Scenarios for after today:

if Brewers sweep and Cubs lose: 4.5 up

if Brewers sweep and Cubs win: 3.5 up

if the Brewers win one and Cubs lose 3.5 up

if the Brewers win one and Cubs win: 2.5 up

if Brewers get swept and Cubs lose: 2.5 up

if Brewers get swept and Cubs win: 1.5 up

Lots of options....big day!!

I don't know what percentage of double headers result in splits, but it seems like about 2 out of 3. I'd be fine with a split today. No offense to Parra, but Capuano could sure use a win, and he deserves one the way he has pitched in his last few outings.

Of course, no reason to set my sights low - so here's to winning a pair today and kicking sand in the Cubbies' faces!

I'm not going to be able to catch the game where I live, so I'll miss seeing Parra start. However according to the Brewers Web site the first game should be on WMLW 41.

I'm not overly worried to this point, because sometimes that happens with the WMLW games. But it might not be a horrible idea to get that DirecTV phone number handy.

EDIT: Try channel 658 instead.

If I remember right, they had a game or two on there earlier this year, maybe one in Texas.

I think it's where they put games that weren't originally scheduled to be on FSN.
