Could Barry Zito Lose 20 Games?

Barry Zito turned in his worst performance of the year last night (and that's really saying something) against the Reds, allowing 8 runs on 7 hits in 3 full innings. He's now already 0-6 with an ERA of 7.53 and a 1.95 WHIP. Mike Maroth is the last pitcher to lose at least 20 games, losing 21 for the pitiful 2003 Tigers.

Considering how horrible Zito's been so far (he's pitched 6 innings only twice so far and has 15 walks compared to 11 strikeouts) and how bad the Giants offense is on the rare times he pitches well, does he have a legitimate chance to lose more than 20 games this year? Could he hit 20 losses before September?

Wow. I wonder how much money he would make per loss http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Seriously, what a joker. From everything I've seen of him, he has no business being out there. There has to be something wrong.

If I had Braun's pee in my fridge I'd tell everybody.

They are apparently considering moving him to the bullpen for a while so that will probably stop his odds of 20+ losses. Though with the Correia injury maybe they will hold off.

I wish Brian Sabean was the Cubs GM. Did anybody honestly think that Zito was even going to come close to earning even half of that contract?

With his velocity decreasing pretty much ever since he broke into the bigs, you'd have to think something is wrong with him. He certainly has pretty sloppy mechanics. The sooner he goes under the knife, the better.

The storyline out here is that Sabean's moves re: Zito and Bonds last year were largely dictated by Peter Magowan.

It's pretty funny out here; people aren't angry as much as resigned. Some guy seriously just called into the Razor and Mr. T Show (the afternoon drive on KNBR, the big sports radio stick out here) suggesting that the Giants try to turn Zito into a position player a la Ankiel. ("Ya gotta pay him anyway, and he can't be worse than some of those guys").

If the Giants are so set on sucking, they may as well let Zito get abused, rather than some good pitchers.

If they let Zito keep sucking though it will hurt his trade value.

Maybe they could get the Pirates to take him? They bailed them out on Matt Morris.

Wasnt he signed the same year as Juan Pierre? What are they smoking on the West Coast?

Anyone up for a caption...?
Anyone remember which one of these I throw with?

Honestly, I see that as almost increasing his odds since he'll have more games to lose http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Zito to Bullpen, per ESPN.

"I'm certainly not happy with it, by any means," Zito said. "But this is the bed that I've made. I have to lay in it for the time being and I have to overcome. I trust management and I trust what their decisions are."

Well looks like that's the most expensive middle reliever ever!

I'm getting more than this many million per year?!

Man he was my favorite non-Brewer for forever. It's pretty embarassing wearing his A's jersey around.
