Some people are floating the rumor that the Brewers would send Gross and Jackson for Byrnes. Of course i know this will never happen.

 

If this deal and the Gagne deal would happen I would have to leave work early because i would be like a 14 yr old girl at an Nsync concert.

The Brewers are going to be drafting for an hour straight next June if they acquire all these guys.

 

If that's all it would take to get Byrnes, I wouldn't complain.

Its the always reliable my sources told me by someone on the Espn board. That "my source" guy is everywhere, i think everyone knows him. He must be friends with "some guy" and "these 2 guys" Of course "some guy" and "these 2 guys" are more violant the "my source. You never hear of "my source" jumping anyone its always "some guy" or "these 2 guys". Along those lines, never and i repeat never "stand around minding my own buisness" this always leads to you geting hurt or robbed.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

According to scout.com, Byrnes is highly unlikely to remain with the DBacks after this year. Contract talks have broken off, and won't be resumed until after the season is finished. They're currently listening to offers for him.

No, he wouldn't. He's well-below average for a corner outfielder. He's having a fluky good year, but he's the same scrub he always was.

Couldn't Byrnes play center and allow the Brewers to move Hall to a corner spot (or second base if Weeks still struggles next season)?

That would be feasible. Byrnes is a good defender in center, and obviously his power and speed play there as well.

In a surprising turn of events, the Diamondbacks and outfielder Eric Byrnes have reached agreement on a three-year extension worth in the neighborhood of $30 million, a deal that comes less than three weeks after the sides broke off contract talks.

 

A press conference will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Chase Field.

 

After the Diamondbacks offered a deal in the range of three years and $22.5 million, the sides announced they had broken off talks on July 19 while the club was in Milwaukee.

 

But the Diamondbacks reengaged talks sometime during last week's series against Atlanta, and the sides quickly came to an agreement on a contract that will run through 2010.

 

The outfielder is in the midst of a career year, hitting .303 with 17 home runs and 28 stolen bases.

 

The extension almost certainly means outfielder Carlos Quentin's days in Arizona are numbered. The club was shopping Quentin heavily prior to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.

Carlos Quentin would be a sweet acquisition to play LF next year... He's having a down year this year, but was solid last year and has been as OBP-machine in the minors...

 

He's 25, and his minor league career numbers are .313/.430/.528

 

Last year, .253/.342/.530/.872 in only 166 AB.

The outfield prospect I would love to pluck away from the D-Backs is Carlos Gonzalez. I thought of him a week ago when Justin Upton was called up. Upton and Young aren't going anywhere, and now Byrnes isn't either.

He hasn't walked that much in his minor league career, but the guy can flat-out hit, and is one of the more exciting players in the minors. He was the MVP of the Midwest League in 2005, and not only has a good bat, but has a very strong arm and is a prototype RF.

 

Now, I'm not sure if there is a match between the two teams, as I'm sure the D-Backs would be looking for something fairly big in return for Gonzalez, but he should definitely be a player on the radar.

Patirck, can you see an obvious positional need for AZ? I'd love to get Gonzalez too, and I know every GM alive always wants pitching, but do they have an open position besides the mound?

Their IF is pretty loaded with young talent too, with Jackson, Hudson, Drew and Tracy/Reynolds around the diamond. They seem to be relatively set for the future at C as well with guys like Montero & Snyder.

 

AZ could be good for a long time as long as they collect a few more quality arms, and even then they have some pretty good talent there as well.

Colby, in the 2 years I helped out in spring training, one of my favorite Dbacks was LF/1b prospect Chris Carter. He's kind of an oddball, but that's a good thing (believe me...not the problems of a Barton or Salty...this guy lives for baseball). He's just quirky. And Quentin was pretty cool to.
