I remember watching Detroits crew on MLBtv when Verlander blanked us. They never mentioned it, though their cameras were on him in the dugout and they panned the 0's on the scoreboard on occasion. I thought that was an appropriate way to let people know what was going on without coming out and saying it.

I totally agree. It's not like anyone truly believes it effects the outcome, but it's part of the tradition of the game that makes moments like this special and fun.

At first I thought the 'don't talk about it theme' was overdone, but I've been convinced. Playing along is what it's about, and in general BA has always struck me as a little bit of a dud. This is just further evidence.
