Star Wars books

I am in need of some new reading material, and I was at Barnes and Noble the other day. I came across some Star Wars books, but upon looking at the back of the books, I barely recognized any of the characters. Then I realized there were like four or five different series. Does anyone know if there is a series that takes place either immediately after the end of The Return of the Jedi and what series that would be? Or if there is a series that takes place immediately after the Revenge of the Sith and what series that is? If so, do you know which book is the first in the series?

The Thrawn trilogy takes place shortly after Return of the Jedi. Timothy Zahn was the author I believe.

Thrawn trilogy is good. Also the Han Solo Trilogy is good I think, fills in some good back story and the third book ends with him in the cantina to meet Luke and Obiwan to bring it all around. Currently I am reading the x-wing series, it mainly revolves around Wedge and his squadrons, post emperor's death, it's ok.

Kevin J Anderson's are good too. I think he wrote one that took place between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. I really enjoyed that one.

I thought all the books were excellent. I liked the rogue squadron books quite a bit... all my avatars come from the book series.

I'm curious, I read the Thrawn trilogy over 10 years ago, which had a lot of background on the clone wars. How does that trilogy and the info it provided stand today given the "new" movies? I thought that trilogy was just ok when I read it, as there were quite a few details that I felt really missed the essence from the original movies.

 

I also read a hardcover book around that time in which Luke became the commander of a star destroyer against some lizard race of creatures that was pretty awful.

Are there any books that deal with Darth Vader just before Episode IV? There is a lot of missing information between Episode III and Episode IV about 16 or so years is it?

I'm not sure if there are any books about Vader's "lost years." Lucas has been very adamant about not having the books cover that period too much. I'm not really a follower of Star Wars anymore, so that may have changed in the last couple years.

 

The "Tales from..." books are an entertaining read as well. I think there's one about Jabba's Palace, and one about the Bounty Hunters. Basically collections of short stories giving a little more background on some of the more obscure characters from the original movies.

You just named all of my favorites (plus I, Jedi). Some of the others were ok, but those are all good.
