I feel like Mantle, Gehrig, Hornsby, Williams, etc... were always hitting around .370 when they won their crowns. I can't imagine anything lower than .350 winning a batting title back then. I'll guess Frank Robinson since Yazstrezsjfsieasfemski has already been eliminated.

As for 5 I have no clue but the Orioles sure sound right.

Gah, I was pretty close on the Triple Crown thing....Yaz had 2nd lowest. I'll let someone else take a crack since I looked it up.

(I'll provide a hint - Chad Moeller did not win the Triple Crown)

5) The Milwaukee/St. Louis Browns/Orioles franchise?

Correct, they started in 1901 and did not win the WS until 1966.

The original 8 and first WS win:

Milwaukee/St. Louis/Baltimore: 1966

Detroit: 1935

Washington/Minnesota: 1924

Baltimore/New York Yankees: 1923

Cleveland: 1920

Philadelphia/Kansas City/Oakland: 1910

Chicago Sox: 1906

Boston: 1903

Correct, Frank Robinson at .316

Yaz won the batting title with the lowest average of .301 in the year of the pitcher, 1968

Ah. Thanks for clarifying that.

Starting with the modern MVP in 1931, Who won the most MVPs in the majors in each decade (decade defined as going from the 0 year to the 9 year, so the 40s is 1940-1949)?

1930s?

1940s?

1950s? (2 playes tied)

1960s? (2 players tied)

1970s? (2 players tied)

1980s?

1990s?

2000s?

I don't get it...you asked who had had the lowest batting average of a triple crown winner and the answer is F. Robby who hit .316 and not Yaz who hit .301? ???

He explained that (post #79)... Yaz was a batting title winner (in 1968) at .301, not a Triple Crown winner

80's Schmidt

70's Bench

50's Campanella

40's Musial

30's Foxx

Got em all nice job.

Musial won 3 in the 1940s, Ted Williams won 2 but did NOT win the MVP in either of his triple crown years (1947, 1942) or the year he hit .406 and led the league in HRs (1941)

1) Which NL team has the 2nd most World Series titles among NL teams?

2) Which AL team has the 2nd most World Series titles among AL teams?

3) Who are the 3 pitchers who have won 30 games in a season since Jim Bagby won 31 games for Cleveland in 1920?

4) Who has come closest to hitting .400 since Ted Williams did in 1941?

5) Who has hit the only grand slam in the all-star game?

6) Which pitcher is famous for striking out Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons and Joe Cronin in a row in the 1934 All-Star game (bonus what was his nickname)?

1) Whoever they are, I'm sure they are not as classy as the team with the most World Series titles among NL teams.

4) Does Tony Gwynn's strike shortened .394 count, otherwise it's probably George Brett's .390 (unless someone else snuck in there pre-80's)

5) Fred Lynn (I think that comes up ever year during the broadcast... gotta watch, cuz now it matters)

6) Seems like I heard this one every year, too... but drawing a blank.

4) Who has come closest to hitting .400 since Ted Williams did in 1941?

George Brett is the first that comes to mind but I don't think that's right.

EDIT: Well there was Tony Gwynn but I don't know if you can count that since the year ended prematurely.

5) Who has hit the only grand slam in the all-star game?

Fred Lynn?

1) Dodgers?

2) Athletics?

3) Denny McLain, Lefty Grove, & Don Newcombe?

4) Gwynn

5) Lynn

6) Carl Hubbell...don't know his nickname

1) Correct, Dodgers (6), Cardinals (10)

2) Correct, A's (8), Yankees (26)

3) McLain, Grove Correct, Newcombe is wrong, there is one more.

4) Correct, .394 in 1994. You could say this shouldnt count because of the strike, but you could also argue he would have finnished at .410 without the strike so I think it counts.

5) Correct

6) Correct, Boy Jeenius is correct with "The Meal Ticket"

Wasn't Dizzy Dean a 30-game winner?

And who has the highest win totals for a season since McClain's 1968 season? One in each league.
