Where are you seeing these results? (not disbelieving you, just curious)

Listening on the radio. Also, it was just posted on JSOnline and Drudge.

And here I was googling "2016 Olympics" like a sucker. Thanks.

I'm not sure how I'd have felt, having Olympians racing literally down the block from me. So I'm OK with this.

I don't understand why everyone in the US is shocked. There is so much anti American sentiment over seas, it's ridiculous. I feel like everyone in the US is blown away by this, where in reality, everyone else in the world probably saw the US as finishing fourth all along.

FWIW, I know Chicago (or any other non-mountain city) would never get the winter games. I was just expressing my preference for Olympic seasons.

America is the Yankees, or course there's anti-us setiment everywhere else.

Those awful gang murder videos released this week probably didn't help. There's no way Madrid should win. How can a country of Spain's size get 2 Olympics in 24 years? I don't think Rio could handle the Olympics, but I hope they win it.

I didn't hear that. Would they really have events as far away as Minneapolis?
I wouldn't doubt that one bit. In addition to the Cycling in Madison, I heard that Camp Randall was a potential spot for soccer too

Not too go all political, but I was kind of angry to hear how there's already people on the radio trying to spin this like this was some huge failure for Barack Obama. Like everything has to be some major political story related to the president. I'm guessing Rio gets it due to South America having never hosted an Olympics, and that was probably one of the main factors. They probably had some infrastructure concerns about Chicago as well. I'm just speculating, though.

Rio is hosting the world cup.

Europe is already hosting the next summer olympics so that should eliminate Madrid.

I really dont see how Chicago got eliminated.

Maybe they tied it to him since he became personally involved in pushing for it, and it was his home city. I don't think Clinton of Bush I pushed for Salt Lake or Atlanta.

I don't know if Chicago will bid for the 2020 games at all, but I think if they go ahead and improve some of the infrastructure on their own and get the city budget and crime in order, they would stand a very good chance. Though they likely would be bidding against Madrid and Tokyo again, due to the strength of their bids.

Maybe this will be a message to Chicago that they need to start dealing with the important issues instead of blowing hundreds of millions of dollars on a 2 week event.

Those signs just don't work for anything.

Edit: Nuts, the image changed. The original was of some somber-looking young women holding "It's Gonna Happen" signs (the same kind that was seen too often at Wrigley) with "NOT" markered between It's and Gonna.

Hey, it's not like he was blamed for a hurricane or something. I'm sure he'll be ok.

The 2020 Olympics wont be decided upon till 2013(and I think it's around 2 years prior to that date when cities announce there offical bid).

I don't think people are necessarily blaming Obama, but I do know there is some curiosity as to why he was only there for about 6 hours, where as every other country's leaders were there for several days lobbying for the event. On top of that, he didn't even stick around for the voting, he was already on AF1 as they read Chicago was eliminated.

Whoever touched on Chicago being viewed as a crime ridden unsafe city was right on. People just don't want to be there.

The picture changed. Originally it was of some 20 something women holding signs that originally said It's Gonna Happen! Funny thing was I'm pretty sure the picture was of people hoping that Chicago didn't get the games, that or they were trying to be funny in a moment of sadness, because they had taken a pen or marker and wrote Not between It's and Gonna.
