When I heard his name, I immediately thought no way. But I looked at his stats and he actually pitched pretty well in 07 and 08. He was Suppan-esque last year but if he could get a mid-4 ERA, he could be a solid #5.

If he's cheap, I'd take a chance. I'd rather give him an incentive laden contract than Davis or Wasburn.

The thing I like about him is that he throws hard. Nothing else.

Wellemeyer's velocity and strikeouts were down a bit last year. He still throws hard enough, but I'd only be interested if he was cheap and Peterson thinks he could do something with him because he was pretty bad last year and isn't getting any younger.

I have no problem w/ signing him to a cheap contract, but hopefully he isn't one of the 2 starters that Melvin was talking about.

What's ironic is, no one blames Duncan when guys like Wellemeyer and Lohse fade, but he gets all the credit when some mediocre guy improves somewhat under his tutelage.

I don't expect him to be any better than Looper next year, so if we sign him it better be cheap.

Unless he's a depth move coming for less than a couple million, I'd steer clear. Again, I don't see how he is an upgrade over Looper.
