The funniest, crankiest and perhaps most-beloved manager in the

history of the Cleveland

Indians has died.

James Gammon, who played skipper Lou Brown

in the film "Major League" and its first sequel, died in Costa Mesa,

Calif. on Friday, the Orlando Sentinel reports. Also a resident of Ocala, Fla., Gammon was 70.

You guys...you lollygag the ball around the infield. You lollygag your way down to first. You lollygag in and out of the dugout. You know what that makes you? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Technically, that was "Bull Durham."

I'm partial to Charlie Donovan making the manager offer to Lou Brown, with the response being "I got a guy on the other line about some whitewalls, I'll talk to you later."

Every once in awhile, I'll work "Screw the curveball, Ricky; give 'em the Heater" into idle conversation.

Major League was such a great baseball movie.

Dang it, you're right. I'm getting my iconic baseball movies confused. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/embarassed.gif

I think you can go get him now.

Awwww, the sad timing. Just last night at softball, RF made an over-the-shoulder basket catch and nearly simultaneously guys from both teams pulled out the "Nice catch, Hayes. Don't ever [expletive] do it again."

And you can guarantee just about any time an infielder missed a grounder by playing it off to the side that it will be met with the Dorn "Ole" reference.

When I pitched in high school, my outfielders would yell "give 'em the heater!" while I was on the mound. Of course, the fun was that I was a location/movement pitcher with the slowest fastball on the team.

Weird, I was just wondering what became of him perhaps a week or so ago. Though his pinnacle was Major League, he was also great in Cabin Boy and Natural Born Killers (a brief role).
